there are a pair of books, volume 2 covers the sports cars 1973 onwards, no drawings as such, but cutaways and period engine bay photos are in it. was the engine very similar to the later F1 engine ?

all good advice from the previous replies, its just picking a method that suits yourself. i have used evergreen type 1.6mm diameter round and find it much easier to adjust the fit. it is readily available on ebay. i have also used copper wire as black knight suggests, i use the earth from 2.5mm flat power cable. annealed as per keefr 22 recommends. another tip you could try is instead of using the floor of your model to build up your cage, why not use a piece of wood instead, just for the main cage, when you are happy with the fit, then transfer it to the model to add further components. good luck, i think you will find building a cage from scratch very rewarding.

any more progress ? something that i noticed on your work in progress photos with regard to the engine cover mods, are you doing the modified hump over the engine/gearbox in two stages ? its just that in the suntec photo above, you will see that the profile is different to the earlier xjr9, it does away with the existing airscoop/hump completely, and it uses a small hump to clear the filter assembly. also i seem to recall the tops of the rear wheel arches to be lower on the 12 than they are on the 9. i used the hasegawa IMSA car as my starting point as i thought it more alike the xjr12. i don't intend this to be a criticism of your work so far, i just adore the TWR jags. have you purchased a copy of the haynes manual ? it concentrates on the xjr9, but is packed with interesting stuff.

great subject to carry out the mods, it will be a great story to tell. i had the 1990 shell sorted and ruined it whilst painting, i may have to pick it up again this winter. those photos will really help.

do you have a drawing similar to this one for a capri mk2 or 3 ?

the box you have shown will contain exactly the same kit as the heller/wave offering, its just been passed around over the years. in my opinion it is the better kit. it contains a full engine bay, and the front is narrower, like the real one, the tyres were not very good though. The fujimi kit benefits from being newer tooling with easier cleaning up. the decals in both are not brilliant. i have built both. your earlier kit will involve more modelling, but the older heller kit remains my favorite.

i have purchased an eduard mk9e spitfire kit, i would like to purchase some decals with a view to building it up as the late ray hannah's plane, as i have seen it flying at goodwood. i am at telford show this weekend and wandered if anyone knows of a set, and who may sell it there. i am a plane novice, so your knowledgeable advice would be welcome. thanks in anticipation.

roy. the mod to the bonnet arches were called anti-lift fairings, invented i think by ecurie ecosse. which gave an improvement to the aerodynamics, they were formed and simply riveted over the existing panels, i am sure you will find the detail on the CD, on the ecurie ecosse car. some prefer original shape. my opinion is, the later shape looks better, but both are true profiles.

shell is looking good roy. all the curves look in the right place

nice kit, tamiya kit has more details, have done both, and enjoyed them. i made the castrol jag into the 1990 imsa car.

very nice roy, it is inspiring work. just the sort of thing for people to have a go at scratch building. albeit on a lesser project to start with.
