Acrylic Vallejo AIR - measurements of full range of paints
PhantomBigStu replied to Casey's topic in Paint
Stumbled across this now I’ve discovered I can brush Valair with a bit of care though my first branching out beyond the silver has been a minor disaster, old stock of 053 when it was labelled Dark Sea Green is quite a bit different, much darker then your measurements something akin to fs26044, of course Vallejo labelled is fs36118/ral7011, teach me for not looking at the bottle properly. Thanks again for your superb service -

Popped to my local to try a Vallejo air that was supposed to be good for extra dark sea grey based of measurements, turned out my local had old stock where it was labelled different and it’s way too dark for that (or indeed the grey Vallejo think it should be), least I also got an airfix mustang so it wasn’t a wasted trip

Advice on the 1/72 Italeri (Esci) F-4 C/D/J
PhantomBigStu replied to Beard's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Nothing to say to say really its a nice kit aside from being older and if pit and seat details are your thing some aftermarket is needed, stencils decals are a pain though because italeri guide leaves a lot to be desired -
Indeed, and true multiple choice tradition my first entry is none of the above though it should have been in the image I’d missed it, also just got myself an airfix kit that will be used for it as I’ll be fitting freightdog louvres

Forest Green on, now for underside blue, looks grey than xtracrrylix raf pru blue, best I've got is humbrol 230 so it will be that -
actually ended up really confused seems RAF/RAAF Mustangs are mindfield and I need some help, is there actually any way of telling whether a particular aircraft is in the ANA paints or RAF paints? Found out I think Ive done previous mustangs wrong in the ANA and trying to find one that is it as such to do this time (and repaint the wrong one this time) edit: internet says the us paints are darker and found a IV that looks much darker than raf paints look so that's one sorted edit2: and it turns out I really confused myself, the one I thought was wrong I had actually painted it in the correct RAF paints.....lol and it looks like early mustangs I's and II's were only grey very briefly so I shall do one of them in RAF paints.

Only have one mustang in the stash (Tamiya 1/72) though my local has fine selection of 1/72 so all bases covered, I also have 2 badly converted to wheels up diecasts that could be repainted and done properly as part of this. I have no real idea what I'm doing yet aside from one in RAF colours. I do have all my decals in a image file at least to help pick

some xtradecal Vulcan decals yesterday and an promised trip to hobbycraft wasn’t as successful as I’d hoped from a browse of their website (was a smaller store.m than the one in the other direction I thought it would be), still left with some Revell paint, a mistercraft spitfire viii and storage diveder that turned out to be too big for my desk draw as intended, but ended up replacing a cardboard box and big basket underneath so can’t complain, also just missed out on an airfix trs2 on eBay tonight. Edit 29/02, thanks to ebays leap year special discount and some saved vouchers I've just got some more AK paint and the new Tamiya F-35A for little over 20 quid delivered, result

PhantomBigStu replied to Enzo the Magnificent's topic in Baby Boomers GB 1946-1964
Had hoped to get my Corsair in the proper gallery tonight but it was not to be, but had to temporarily move some builds earlier and a stand got damaged and it just so happened to be a boomer so here’s a terrible picture I just took of my Hasegawa French F100 -
Probably made with the colour blind baboon that helped with the Ammo range

PhantomBigStu replied to CliffB's topic in Baby Boomers GB 1946-1964
Where I went wrong, my famous lack of patience resulting in very not thin coats, that and spraying in a shed in December I tried with Halfords appliance white over their primer, I have some hycoat white primer, might be worth seeing if I can find small test subject whilst I wait for Amazon to drop the price on the valiant again, though I definitely will not be entering it, haven’t pulled the trigger on the Vulcan yet but I’ve just purchased the eligible decals so a decision might not be far off -

Ready for decals, I have improved the canopy with shaving of the bottom, so it doesn't look so bulged.
