  1. Thanks Les, I'm sure that you are just being modest. All I did was apply lots of muck. Are your Whistling S***houses on this site?
  2. Thanks Neil, I'm just finishing "something completely different"; a 1/72 Italeri F-35 lightning II. Its not a great kit and I've made a bit of a hash of it as I experimented with a pin wash that wouldn't come off. What are you working on yourself?
  3. Hi Jockney, I made them myself after much experimentation and I've still got some tweaking to do before they're right. You asked before about showing you how to make them and I apologise for not showing you as requested. I'll definitely get round to it one day once I can persuade a certain "Little Madam" to take the pictures. She thinks that dads hobby is boring and immature.
  4. Bonkers! If Monty Python was in modelling you'de be John Cleese.
  5. The CMK engines fitted a treat once I used some sandpaper to thin down the width of the cowlings in the kit. In the end I decided not to glue the engines and the engine, cowling and propeller blur are all held together with bluetack. Excellent stuff bluetack! Marags.
  6. Thanks Wolwe82. I'm still experimenting with the prop blur. One of the things I plan to change is the yellow which I think is too solid. Next time I'll try and blur it out towards the edges. Kindest regards, Marags.
  7. I don't know why everybody thinks that this is a particularly stormy scene? Where I'm from this is a perfectly normal sea! You guys must be real land lubbers.......Aharrrrrrrrrr!
  8. That's excellent Nigel! I like your "Dirty girl" and your "Big Banana" in the same picture. What type of diarrhoeama are you planning to use?
  9. Thanks Val, I enjoyed this build more than any other that I've done in the past. Regards, Marags
  10. The way Nigel is going Nigelification will be in the OED next year. What a brilliant job! She really is a dirty, dirty girl! Oops! better not be rude or the Britmodeller Stazi wil be after me.....
  11. Do they do flying bananas with MDT? I'de love to see you super-detailing that one Nigel!
  12. Dear Batcode. I confess that I cheated and used the same seascape that I used for my Sunderland Flyingboat. It was modelling clay that I got on Amazon (£15 for 12kg). I first rolled out a 50x50cm square of clay and then added fat sausages of clay to start the waves. These were then poked and prodded with my fingertips to level out and produce a pockmarked effect. I then painted it with a mix of humbrol blues and greens (number escape me). I then highlighted around each fingerprint with a very dilute white sprayed using my Iwata Neo. Once dry I used drybrushing with white to represent froth. The froth around the hull is just cotton wool. Thanks for the interest! I've got to get back to work now. Marags.
  13. For a 40+ year old kit it did contain some great detail and the crew and the guns were really not bad! Once I painted the primary colours onto the crew I just daubed them liberally with Klear mixed with a little Tamiya brown and the details of the face, Maewest and clothes just jumped out. I would recommend this kit to anybody as it was terrific fun! I'm looking forward to seeing your B&V which wasn't a looker either. Marags
  14. OOps! I'm in trouble with the "Model cops"! If you notice I didn't actually post a swear hence the apostrophe in Sh*t. It could mean Shut, Shet or indeed Shot. What I certainly didn't mean was Dog. Nobody has ever called the Supermarine Stranraer the "Whistling Doghouse"! Being a Newby I don't know how to edit the post so I would prefer if you just changed the name to 1/72 scale Revell Supermarine Stranraer rather than a name that is wrong and means nothing to nobody. Strewth! Marags
  15. Dear All, Thanks for the positive comments about the Sunderland Flying boat. They were very encouraging for a newbie like myself. Below are a few images of my last effort to build the Revell 1/72 scale Supermarine Stranraer which is a strange and ugly looking beast when you consider that it was designed by the same person who designed the beautiful Spitfire. It was not popular with the pilots who flew it hence a nasty nickname which was the "Whistling PoopHouse" except not using the word poop but the one which starts SH and ends in T. I got my wrists slapped for using the historically accurate word. I didn't realize Britmodeller was so "Prim". The Revell offering is a reboxing of the 40 year old Matchbox kit which I would never have touched with a bargepole had my wife not bought it for me from Marionville Models in Edinburgh as a present. However, on looking at its ungainly proportions I was hooked. Indeed, I spent more time, and had more fun with this kit than any I care to remember! The detail was non existent so I had to scribe 90% of the panel lines from a blueprint I got on line. I also used a rivet wheel (trumpeter) for the first time hence why some of the rivetting has gone squint. In addition, because of the amount of rigging I set about making attachment points out of some copper wire and gluing them into holes drilled at the base of each spar. This made rigging the beast with easyline much much easier. I did the same prop effect as on the Sunderland before and also installed some resin CMK Pegasus engins to replace the kit engines which were utterly lacking in detail. Weathering may be a bit heavy but I reckon the long range trips made in bad weather would not have kept these beauties pretty for long. Critically, I have included crew and I'm keeping my eyes out for any further alien incursions! Thanks to my wife, Rhona for buying the beast and my daughter Leacsaidh for the photos.
  16. Why Thanksh for the commentsh Tango. I hope Mish Moneypenny liked it toooo. Maragsh
  17. As I previously explained, the crew are now being used as s*x slaves on planet Kronk after being abducted by a flying teapot. Why does nobody take me seriously!!!! Is it because being in the AMS drives you potty?
  18. I'm very impressed by this build Nigel and loving the banter as always. Looking forward to seeing it finished and in a dio with your big banana.
  19. Fworr! I like them dirty and she's FILTHY!!!
  20. Dear Nigel, As usual, I'm jealous as hell with the patience and skill your showing with this build. I'll keep looking in now and again and will hopefully see the latest installment in the flesh at the next club meet. Al (Marags)
  21. Thanks Nigel, I'll have to catch up with your refuelling truck post for the flying Banana ASAP and thanks for the encouraging words about the Sunderland. See you at next club night, Al (Marags).
  22. Dear Jockney, I'm glad that you like the props and I'de be happy to put together a wee tutorial if I can get my grumpy teenage daughter to work the camera to get pickies together. I'll try and get something together before the end of the month if I can. I can say that the technique does involve the use of a small tin of Asda anchovies. Unfortunately, my other half used the anchovies on a Pizza last Friday night and chucked the tin in the recycling so I'll have to get another tin before I can make the tutorial. Kindest regards, Maragsxx
  23. I've had a look at your Sunderland diorama and it is stunning! I especially like the internal detail and the weathering. What did you use for the sea? Thanks for drawing your superb work to my attention!
