This is budget tooling at its best, Mk.4's had slatted wings-most prominent feature, so in 2020 Airfix cannot go the same route Promodeler/Revell did with their F-86D - 22 years ago, congrats, truely well thought effort, no flaps and no slats on a 1/48 scale kit, not to mention panel lines...spirit of Matchbox found its new home, sorry guys but as I have soft spot for Sabres -this equals my dissapointment in Zvezda's new Mi-24V. This should be Series 5 or 6 kit-at best.

Special Hobby SH72434 SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 new tool
Thomas V. replied to gioca's topic in The Rumourmonger
No brainer, SH all the way! -
Unfortunately I have some reservations, as said by AZ this should have been somewhere in the middle between HQ tech and fully short run, expected something like DH Comet. From pics, this tooling is pure AZ/KP short run tech, anyone who had the opportunity building mentioned short runs will now that they are very , very difficult to assemble, with poor and soft detail, hope they prove me wrong.

Eduard 1.48 Hawker Typhoon, musings, nothing more!
Thomas V. replied to At Sea's topic in The Rumourmonger
Their Tempest is excellent kit and such tooling quality Typhoon would be phenomenal, I have fond memories of Hasegawa's kit reaching the shelves in 1999, and still have 20+ in of the latter in the stash, not to mention that sooner or later they would downscale it to 72nd where both Airfix and Brengun could be improved. Special Hobby announced their Typhoon in 32nd scale, but that could be even decade away, not to digress further- I truly hope they will, especially that they announced both Mk.VI and Mk.II. -
1/48th - Douglas A2D Skyshark by Clearprop Models - Released
Thomas V. replied to Tbolt's topic in The Rumourmonger
...as an engineer you do understand that model kit is a presentation of the real thing-not a pantographed copy, if you view things that way, you will no doubt decide to scrap panel lines and maybe scrap the whole idea, because of scale thickness of parts like trailing edges and canopies, I would not sign on those if I were you...enjoy the hobby, and cannot say enough how pleased I am with us getting Skyshark... -

Those of us who prefer rivets and those of us that don't both have valid reasons for it, lets enjoy the hobby... -

Can you elaborate, don't follow... -
1/48th - Douglas A2D Skyshark by Clearprop Models - Released

Depends on manufacturers surface treatment, some have highly pronounced rivets, some don't, we cannot generalize here, as far as I am concerned if done properly ( as small as possible) today's kit in 1/48 and larger scales without rivets looks toylike and bland, I applaud Clearprop's way, even in 72nd scale as seen on their Seasprite, again if done properly, as they did. -
Regarding cowling, just went through builds on Eduard's webpage and cannot see any bulge -its straight all the way...could it be some optical illusion due to photo angle of the part ?

Because if their superlative Claude costs around 40+Euros, depending where you look, Emil will cost the same if not more, paying mentioned sum for model of that size I will never be ready. Wingsy Claudes are very nice kits, but quality wise they are in some areas behind Eduard for a price that is app 20-40% higher. As for later price reduction never happens.
-
I am not the one usually commenting on other people's opinions, but have to have to say that using terms like " solid " and "good" for the kit is hugely unfair, kit is excellent, not perfect but excellent, I had my doubts whether Tamiya can be surpassed, but Eduard did it, and as much flak they are getting for botched 109's, I applaud them for this kit.

No sink marks in my kit, strange that they released kit with such prominent sink marks at the first place.

Kit is inaccurate from tip to toe, its their 1/32 kit pantographed to 1/48 with all the omissions translated to smaller scale, firstly its not 1/48, its fuselage and wings are too long/wide, every service panel is wrongly positioned, undercarriage too tall by 4-5mm and leading edge slats way too deep- in short a mess or totally inaccurate Emil. If one is not interested in Tamiya's second rendition, which is today still the best 1/48 Emil on the market, both Dragon and Wingsy Kits have announced new tooled Emils, personally would not mind Eduard doing another Emil.
-
Eduard's Emil is inaccurate in every shape and form, from surface detailing ( every service panel is wrongly positioned, flaps 50% overscale ) to overall shape and size, 32nd kit pantographed with each and every omission scaled down, I hope that Eduard will revisit Emil ( but without their Gustav curse-getting it wrong twice), as well as Bf 110. Wingsy will cost at least twice as Eduard would, so please Eduard retool Emil.

Revell has seen huge decline in both quality and value for money ever since Hobbico takeover and unfortunately recent management is not doing the brand any favours. Production quality slipped, prices have again gone up 20-30% across the portfolio, there are some excellent new kits like Beaufighter and Shackleton and Hawk in 72nd scale, but are hampered by low QC. As for Blackbird, truly hope that they outsourced CAD to someone with knowledge, cause initial kit design has been a problem for Revell in the last decade.
-
No Eduard 1/32 Lysander, not mentioned or announced or in plans, ICM would be my bet for possible new tooled Lysander, Eduard stated on more than one occasion that they don't plan to tool 1/32 kits.
-
Lots of other kits to build, after this debacle someone will most likely grace us with a new Hind kit that has at least cockpit detail.
-
So... adding to baseline kit, that should have had most details that are found in PE or resin or decals aftermarket, to get 2020 properly detailed kit one will splurge around 100 euros, great!...bought Zvezda 1/48 kits in multiples, Hind will be boycotted.

Impressive!...if they are anything like their Seasprite, we are in for a treat!

Another chapter in Dragon oddities, when there was no competition, kit was OOP, now when Academy has superlative product ( probably at a cheaper price too ), now its time to re-release, another in series of smart and well thought decisions.

Don't think that anyone on this topic or in fact in modeling world as a whole would spoil childrens learning curve,or better said introduction to scale modeling by refraining from old scale models.I do agree that kids will enjoy old models as well as new ones, but in latter case mostly as free hand downs, not newly boxed relatively expensive 40+years old kits. Same goes not only for Top Gun franchise, but other " classic " toolings that popped up in 2020 catalogue, not doing Airfix any good in the long run. Its not just Airfix, plenty of brands where management thinks that ancient toolings can have new "lease of life", Italeri, Heller resurgent under G2B, and recently Revell.

Exquisite!...and Dual Combo ( hope to see more of those )....hope they got it right.

Bad, bad decision, these toolings are truly outdated, given current cooperation with Academy, all of the models could have been recent Academy toolings. Whoever decided on bringing back not only mentioned, but other ancient toolings deserves a sack, kids will be majority of ones buying these boxings( except few decal hunters ), and they will be turned off modeling upon seeing/building contents of the boxes, not to mention asking price-Pure greed-bad decision, won't do brand any good.
