  1. Getting some dark slate grey on. A few more layers to go to try to get it smooth and faded.
  2. Getting a quick coat on this morning before the family wakes
  3. This is a placeholder for my build which will be a boxing of the Hasegawa Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 (originally released in 1975 according to Scalemates).
  4. Next is some layers of lightened Extra Dark Sea Grey to reflect the apparently faded grey on the original from the sun and sea. the original: (I think/working on faded EDSG and DSG) only think I’m not sure about is the covers to the gun bays high look like bare metal or a different lighter colour… or maybe it’s a trick of the light…
  5. First coats of paint going on the top surfaces
  6. Why not. Plenty of Eduard in the stash. Count me in please!
  7. Yes. Unfortunately I cannot remove the inboard flaps without pulling the wings off and apart…
  8. Some more progress this afternoon. Wings attached. Must have been my hamfistedness as there was a sizeable gap between wing root and fuselage. This has been fixed somewhat by using a small piece of scrap sprue to push out the sides of the fuselage. Have to say the fit is lovely and I’m not expecting to do much filling of the wing joins once it’s dry. have to note that the Catapult Spools are ‘exquisite’ (ie bl***y tiny!)Had multiple moments of panic trying to get the excess sprue off them and get them fitted! Have to say they look nice tiny as they are!
  9. Bugger. Hopefully won’t be too noticeable if mounted on a cradle. Note to self for next Hurricat build; remember the inboard flaps!
  10. Wings together and cut out the flaps to model them in the down position (resin Flaps on order) I’ve got the wheels in the down position for now but will hold off until the last safe moment in the hope I can do the wheels in the up position to hopefully get a cradle made or scratch build one. Speaking of cradles I just want to send a thank you to @MACALAIN and @Pete M. for their assistance.
  11. It’s a lovely little kit and despite some fiddle little bits in 1/72 it goes together a treat!
  12. Some progress today. plastic, resin and etch glued with harness wrestled into position (someone really needs to make resin hurricane seats with a harness on it!) I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve broken and re glued the (quick boost) joystick back on! Next I think I’ll join the fuselage halves. Holding off on building the wings/undercarriage as long as possible as I try to get a cam ship cradle 3D printed.
  13. Not a lot, but finally started and paint has been applied to plastic (and resin)!
  14. I don’t think I will get the chance to scratch build one. I will have to settle for the aircraft only this time (on its wheels) for the GB if I cannot find a 1/72 cradle with or without the catapult and rails. The seed has been planted though. I will probably revisit the cradle/catapult once I have more free time in the future to do some scratch building.
  15. New plastic! Same aircraft, different version of base kit to be backdated to a Sea Hurricane IA (+ Headrest and catapult spools and - arrestor hook). Spray undercoat done, 🤞 I’ll get the chance to do some painting and assembly once the family are asleep. At this stage I’ve tentatively settled on V7070 as my aircraft based on a couple of photos of the aircraft and a very good article about the pilot from the key.aero website.
  16. So I need a headrest and catapult spools to do this Hurricat properly. Simplest path will be to backdate a Sea Hurricane IB to a IA. Fortunately I happen to have the new Arma Hobby one in the stash which will now become a Sea Hurricane IA. Updates to follow. I’m not sunk yet! Disappointed though I can’t find a 1/72 cradle with or without the rails anywhere…
  17. Here is the Plastic for my build, a (Sea) Hurricane IA of the MSFU. Markings are undecided at the moment as I am still trying to match a serial to a code and individual letter for one of the operational launches.
  18. I’d love to but my time and skills do not extend that far!😂 I tried to find a cradle in 1/72 but could only find a long out of production 1/48 one that no one sells anymore. A gap in the hobby an enterprising company could fill😉 just in case they read these chats/threads… one day I’ll have to revisit this and build a cradle and aircraft in 1/72, but for this build I’ll just have to settle for the aircraft component of the system!
  19. After a re evaluation of the stash, before I get more bits and post up a thread, I am hoping the answer is yes to the question of; Will a Merchant Ship Fighter Unit (MSFU) Hurricane qualify for this GB? if so I have a lovely little Arma hobby Hurricane ready!
  20. Excellent news. Seeing as there a lot of seafires I’ll go with my Original build plan and start a thread and post some pics for my (anti-shipping) airfix beaufighter build when time permits. Alex
  21. Arma hobby heard my prayers. One of these will look the part in desert camouflage
