The temptation is there for sure (There's a Sea Hurricane next to my Build Desk that I may get to if time permits!) -
Here comes the Fleet Air Arm Chat
Rafwaffe replied to LorenSharp's topic in Here comes the Fleet Air Arm GB
Finally got my Fulmar finished and in the gallery. First Fleet Air Arm build in a long time. Probably not the last! For a small low part count kit the vista mould had some emotional moments. I may have to build the Special Hobby Fulmar one of these days just to compare the two. Thanks for putting this GB on, thank you for having me on board and thank you for the support and all your inspiring builds! -
Fleet Air Arm Gallery

AZ Model (vista) Fairey Fulmar II N4065 804 NAS 1941 kit from the box, decals from the stash painted with AK interactive, Tamiya and Citadel Acrylics. Thanks for having me and thanks for stopping by. WIP link is at the bottom. N4065, was launched at least twice from an FCS and was flown from HMS Springbank on 10 June 1941 by PO(A) Frederick James Shaw, RN (who incidentally made the first operational launch from an FCS on 11 January 1941) . His three documented operational launches from an FCS account for 1/4 of the 12 recorded FAA operational launches from FCS. Tragically PO Shaw was killed on 02 August 1942, Aged 28, with 881 Sqn when his Martlet stalled and crashed in the sea whilst landing onto HMS Illustrious.- 55 replies

And done. Finally finished. the kit is not without its flaws (cf mismatched exhausts) but it looks like a fulmar to me so happy that I’ve gotten it done and will look nice alongside the sea hurricane I have (matching pair Hurricat and FCS Fulmar) looking at it can’t be overlooked the sheer courage it must have taken to launch in one aiming to take on a fw200 or the like…

I may regret my life choices with some kit companies but I never regret Airfix. Sign me up! I’m sure I’ll have something in the stash worthy/suitable for this Groupbuild! -

Embarrassingly I’ve fallen behind with my group builds and I don’t have a single P-47 in my stash! I’ll have to get one 1/72 of course and catch up when I can. just have to decide bubbletop or razorback… Actually… a Dora Wings p-43 arrived last week. Would this qualify?

Assembly Done. Just going to step away and let it dry overnight/a few days until the scars fade (especially after the battle to get the leading edge light to remotely fit (faired in…sort of… with some trusty Kristal Clear) still shaking my head at those exhausts…

After a hiatus due to work, progress. camouflage on. Trying for a faded looking dark slate grey and extra dark sea grey pattern. Almost on the home stretch! I remain bemused by the misaligned exhausts on the kit. Something I don’t think was on the real fulmar! Covering it a bit with a strategically placed propellor blade.

Ready for the top colours This is the aircraft. Just trying to work out which colour is which! I think the dark colour is the Extra Dark Sea Grey, but something tells me I may have it the wrong way around!

This kits been sitting in my stash for a few years. This seems like a good time to add a 1/72 IID hurricane and when I think of aircraft and Desert Camouflage the first thing I think of is a tank buster Hurricane. Not sure which aircraft I will make yet; however it will be a 6 squadron one, that’s for sure!

Outfoxing the Graf Spee **Finished**
Rafwaffe replied to JOCKNEY's topic in Here comes the Fleet Air Arm GB
Looking forward to your build. I have a soft spot for the MB seafox. Great choice! -
This is my 1/72 AZ Models Fulmar - Will be built as Fulmar Mk.II N4065 of 804 Squadron as utilised from the Navy’s Fighter Catapult Ships (FCS) One of my earlier builds this year was a Hurricane of the MSFU. Before the MSFU the Fleet Air Arm was catapult Launching Fulmars from ships (The Fighter Catapult Ships (FCS)) To continue the theme, the aircraft I am building, N4065, was launched at least twice from an FCS and was flown from HMS Springbank on 10 June 1941 by PO(A) Frederick James Shaw, RN (who incidentally made the first operational launch from an FCS on 11 January 1941) .
