  1. Hi Adrian Superb work, it looks so well done and the detail of the gun and whatever that thing is called really adds to the look. Makes me wish I had gone down that road, I did pick up a Novo Wallace for $5 but felt the CMR kit would be less hassle (not so sure anymore). Yes why doesn’t KP produce a Wapiti? I know Dora Wings had one on their list at one stage! Now that your superb effort is finished a injection plastic should appear.
  2. I have the Monogram kit from a couple or three decades ago, started but never finished, but it looks a good kit. Hope you had a good break and good luck with the build.
  3. Hi Adrian, Thank you for the information! Mystery solved through the shared knowledge of fellow modellers! Phew.... so that is what that 'thing' is at the end of the underneath of the fuselage! I didn't know aircraft of that era had this ability! Sadly I was unable to replicate the change in incidence of the tailplane, the kit parts don't allow it. I tried setting the tailplane at an angle leaving such a gap as shown in the photos but it means the rudder is not vertical, so I had to level it out, and the tailplane is not level at the fixed point, which means the rudder ends up protruding below the end of the fuselage where it joins but that is easily fixed. Just thinking I probably could have thinned out the tailplane, shaved some resin off the underneath of the fin and that might have made the model look more accurate! As to markings, yes she will be an RAAF example but not sure at this stage which one... the kit schemes are not exactly very exciting! In hindsight I wish I had bought an RAF example as their schemes were far more colourful and interesting. I must add that the puttied areas will be cleaned up! It looks awful in these photos... Unfortunately I am house sitting for the next couple of weeks and won't be able to work on this project till I get back home! later in April. Happy Easter to all.
  4. Hi Dave, Brilliant, thank you for the explanation! That explains everything.
  5. Hello, Well the cockpit is all sealed up, I messed up some of the panel lines so these needed re scribing, now I am working on the tail section and have struck a conundrum! Being a regular obsessed modeller I tend to research and research and download more photos than I really need. The fit of the tailplane and fin is such that it leaves gaps, now having checked a number of photos I am wondering (due to the odd gaps appearing in the photos below the tailplanes) I am wondering if the tailplanes floated at all? as there are photos with well see the attached photos... The model... I have disassembled the parts and cleaned them up for when I can figure out what to do!!
  6. Hi Chris excellent finish on the Nomad! I recently built the Azur Finch and had a battle royal with colour, however what I found was the kit struts didn’t fit, even with increasing the lower wing dihedral they just would not touch the underneath of the top wing. In the end I just scratch built new struts. You may or may not have a problem.. Regards Simon
  7. Thank you Ed, the Wapiti colourised photo made the Wapiti interior look like a grey green, which means my colour choice is wrong … although the green I used is more suited to RAF cockpit colours… sod. But the information you have provided will hopefully help someone else in their build, however I’m glad I didn’t go with silver as a cockpit interior colour.
  8. Hello I have been thinking of starting this build for some years, but was holding off in the hope that the Dora Wings Wapiti (which was announced back in 2018) would become available. Apparently it has disappeared from their catalogue. So on a recent Plonk and Plastic visit to Bathurst in country NSW I dug this out and got stuck in... inspired by friends building their resin kits, I have not built a full resin kit to date. It is a lovely kit, hardly any imperfections. The engine is well detailed and made of of many small parts... The instructions say attach the folding seat on the right side but in fact it should be on the left hand fuselage side.. The parts come in this sectioned plastic bags.. Work has begun.. A close up of the detailed engine... it was fiddly to assemble.. I had to add some filler parts as there is a noticeable gap on the LHS.. and I mean quite obvious.. More plastic card to fill the gaps.. I am painting the interior based on some photos I have of an RAAF Demon in the RAAFM in Point Cook... The instructions did not give a colour guide to the interior. All resin parts.. The bombs have tiny waffer thin fins that are easily snapped off, the instructions say fin need parts attached from scratch.... fiddly ultra fiddly.. I added some brass rod to help with alignment, this actually did help quite a lot. Anyway this is where I am up to at present, I have glued the fuselage halves together and added some Milliput to fill the quite sizable gaps!! More progress soon (well I hope so)...
  9. Actually the canopies are different the Pete's Hangar canopies only fit the Frog kit which is different to the SH examples. The Frog and SH parts are not the same the Frog kit I think is a bit shorter. Cheers Simon
  10. Thank you guys, I have now completed the build and posted photos on Ready For Inspection Aircraft....
  11. Hi there After seeing Grumman Martlet AL426 at the FAA Museum in Yeovilton I tried to get hold of the AZ kit but at that time it was out of production, so I posted on Hyperscale in the Wants section for this kit for trade, an American modeller kindly sent me his kit minus one aircraft decal set, at no cost which was hugely generous! I have painted and added markings for a Grumman aircraft as painted, I mixed the light green using Humbrol paints. It is a kit that needs some attention and work to make it presentable. AL426 A mass of photos of AL426 collected for the build. I mixed these two Humbrol tins to get the light green.
  12. Some years ago a fellow modeller sent me photo copies of the Vengeance manual to help out with my build, which was some many years ago! I thought I would share some of it here:
  13. Hi Dennis Thanks. The kit has its issues but seems to fit together okay for such and old kit. Simon
  14. You must have been over here some years ago, the museum while functioning is not open to the public (due to the local council attitude). I wish I had taken more photos of her but there is a large collection of photos close up of her on the Modelart website under walk arounds. Simon
  15. Hello, Some years ago I was given the Pete's Hangar (produced in Queensland Australia) cockpit interior, a nicely done resin set that is designed for use with the Frog kit, it will not fit the Special Hobby product. Sadly I did at one stage own a Frog Vengeance but chose to sell it, which I regret as I had to obtain a replacement Frog offering! At considerably higher price than I sold mine for, well at least plenty of them are still out there and unbuilt! I also did a swap with a fellow club member for his Pete's Hangar replacement cowling, propeller and undercarriage interior again only suitable for the Frog kit, the white metal prop is lovely but the replacement cowling is no better than the kit offering! So I modified it using the second Special Hobby cowling front! It is a bit of a Frankenstein modification but cleaned up should be an improvement!!! Thanks to a local guy here in Sydney I was able to obtain this issue of the kit.. You get two vacform canopies with the Pete;s Hangar set, nice and crisp mouldings.. This is the Frankenstien cowling with a good amount of Milliput slapped on it to cover the variations!! Resin replacement Pete's Hangar engine, remains of Pete's Hangar Cowling after removal of offending nose... and believe the plastic cowling front from the SH Vengeance kit. The Pete's Hangar (a VAST improvement of the basic Frog cockpit bits) resin and brass interior.. Unfortunately the replacement vacform canopy sits too low!! and a strip of card needed adding to the side walls of the Frog cockpit parts... easily done. The entire Frog parts have had the panel lines all rescribed including the missing ones... of which there are quite a few, I couldn't fins decent drawings of the type so I referred to the SH kit.. The Pete's Hangar cockpit interior replacements set... the seats and twin .30 are brass.. tough as old nails to file!!! Work in progress, the Frog kit in dark blue and the SH kit in light grey... I have modified the u/c legs slightly.... The wheel wells with the Pete's Hangar replacement resin parts which fitted absolutely perfectly!!
  16. I have been working on this kit for quite a few months, it was sent to me by a modeller in America, who asked for no payment so I feel I should build it. Typical Eastern European kit, nice detail but requires extra effort. I got inspired after seeing the Martlet in the FAA Museum at Yeovilton some years ago, stripped back to its original colours or ones apparently applied by the manufacturer Grumman. I am basing the colours on photos I both took at the museum and those found on the web... anyway here it is so far! Cockpit section Kit resin engine Pre shading the underneath Masking with Silly Putty! I had printed out some of the reference for easier reference... Had a slight issue with the kit firewall.... soon fixed.. Paints I used to mix the lighter green! I have yet to spray some satin varnish over the paint as it appeared to have sheen to it...
  17. Hi Yg Models, Nice models!! Really like your work!! Yes it is an excellent set, I also build some of the ACE British cars as RAF Staff cars, they are hard work but look good once built. Cheers Simon
  18. I used to collect these as a teenager, which is how long I have had these figures, which is quite a few decades now! I once read about using a hot knife to clean them up, my advice is don't.... one slip and that's the end of the figure! It is as you say using a Swann-Morton nice fine new number 11 blade!! It is quite easy and truly does not take long to do. I think you need a good magnifying glass and really excellent light oh and a steady hand might help. Good luck.
  19. Thank you I shall check that thread out, I do actually have quite a few vehicles, and more to come.. some from the ACE range of cars!
