  1. I don't think this has been mentioned yet, Ced, but ARCo have put up some shots of their newly restored (and soon to be flying) Lysander on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aircraftrestorationcompany/posts/1026110507545616 I reckon they've got some tools that you might find interesting
  2. A superb and intriguing build, Adey. I doubt there are many modellers that can display one of these on their shelf.
  3. Thanks, RJ. It's certainly a more distinctive scheme than I'd first thought when I picked it. Some limited further progress: canopy and prop attached (though some final tidying work required), and a bit of pastel dirt added. Cheers, Chris
  4. Great choice for a project. Most Secret War really triggered my interest in electronic warfare, it's a wonderful account.
  5. I reckon they spray fine over each other, and they dry hard. I've never had problems masking with Tamiya tape, though I've only done one full NMF with them so far. Plenty of reviews corroborate that, though.
  6. I've found that the VMC paints spray very nicely neat from the bottle, Sarge. Just keep the coats thin as they puddle quickly. Shame about the nose art.
  7. They look like they fit well ... now.
  8. I can understand why, that's really rather delicious
  9. You may be absolutely right, Steve; I haven't been able to do a proper check. Either way, the practical outcome is the same, though - I struggled to squeeze the markings into the available space on my build. Absolutely, and the same price consideration means that I have two Academy kits in 1/72 (and a further example in a Special Hobby reboxing), and exactly none, yet, from other brands. Since I was going to use aftermarket decals on them anyway, the cost was a deciding factor: two Academy kits for the price of one Tamiya.
  10. It's a mix, Glynn. The Kagero sheet is printed by Cartograf, but as they have markings for four aircraft in three scales on a single sheet, it covers only the absolute minimum necessary. The only Academy decal I used was the first attempt at the port fuselage star; this was then replaced (and all other stars sourced from) a generic Xtradecal sheet. I don't have many Academy kits; the only other one I can think of right now is their Grey Ghosts boxing of the 1/48 F-4, but I checked, and that has a Cartograf sheet, thank goodness.
  11. Just read the thread, Stix, and this is splendid work. You have that knack of making superb results sound easy to achieve, and of course now I want to crack open one of my two AFV kits in the hope of emulating you.
  12. I admit to doing a bit of that...
  13. The decal replacement proved more irritating than I'd expected, and I ended up so focussed on covering the old decal area that I failed to notice that the new wasn't quite correctly positioned. The fuselage vent then gave me problems and I now have a rather ragged, touched-up, edge to the decal there. Really frustrated but I can't bring myself to strip and try it all again! The wheels are now on but after considering the surgery required to shorten them, including the gear doors, I left as is. Most of the detail paint is now done and we're heading towards completion. The prop is push-fitted but not fully painted (or decalled, though Academy don't appear to have bothered with providing prop decals: a blessing in disguise?), and the inner gear doors and main canopy need to be attached. Then some more weathering (all I've done thus far is some gentle chipping).
  14. This is something! I'm losing any liking I had for this kit after building two of them. I can't be sure as I don't have precise plans, but it seems to me that the fuselage is just a little too short (between canopy and stabilisers), so check the decals for the codes will fit OK. You've picked some striking schemes, that's for sure.
  15. I'm not sure that there were. Some -Ms were retrofitted with the -N fillet, according to the MMP book on the bubbletop. (Ah, beaten to it by Tbolt! Very little info in the MMP book, it's just one sentence.)
  16. Looks like a great result, too. But I am not brave enough either (and lack certain key tools, I've never bothered acquiring a riveter, for example). Filed away for future reference and testing.
  17. Well, we ended up getting one of those magnifying visors with LED lamp things, and I have to say that first impressions are good. Comfortable, and compact enough to please my wife. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073Z8V5VN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  18. I'm looking forward to the stressed skin effect, too. I always contrast the state of the Liberator at Duxford with the super-smooth NMF that most of us aim for, but I have no real idea how to recreate all those slight dents.
  19. That's one heck of a B'tech game! Must take ages to get through a turn with that many on the board... The novels are a dim memory. Pretty sure I never read them, but my mate did. On a recent visit to my mother's house, I rediscovered some World of Darkness fiction; dear me.
  20. Great to hear that you had a good time, PC. I'm strangely curious as to what terrible sci-fi you were reading? The little Fokkers look right snazzy with Polish markings on. Having just substantially expanded my stash, I'm manfully trying to resist the temptation of Arma's P.11c, and you're not helping.
