  1. That's an impressive paint job! Ciao
  2. Five builds at the same time? You are (not so) slowly morphing into a @corsaircorp! Following.... Ciao
  3. This is rather impressive, Bill! I know how tiny that thing (the model, I mean) is in real life, yet it passes the macro-photography test with flying colors! Masterpiece! Ciao
  4. That's some neat paint job! The pre-shade shows through just perfectly Ciao
  5. Hi everybody, here's a bit of progress on the gunsight/reflector area. I decided to scratch build a new armored glass with its built-in gunsight reflector, cutting in out from the clear plastic of an old CD case. Here it is, on the right, compared to the kit offering: I used a Dremel cutting disc and a cylindrical sanding tool to rough out the overall shape, which I then refined using micro-files. Then I added the side brackets that hold the reflector in place, cutting them out from 0.1mm brass sheet and gluing them with CA, and the reflector itself from 0.3mm clear PET and glued with Gator's Grip The black frame was brush painted with Lifecolor Matt Black. A bit of a dry fit: As it happens, at this point I noticed that I had angled the reflector the wrong way round, meaning that it should sit at a flatter angle on the horizontal compared to the armored glass So I removed the brackets, scratch built a new pair with the correct angle and glued them back: Kit gunsight painted and weathered (Molotov Chrome as base, then Lifecolor Matt Black fore the main body and a mix of browns for the leather cushion) The IP coaming was airbrushed with Tamiya Flat Black, then I stippled some Lifecolor Dark grey over it and drybrushed the "eyebrow" with Lifecolor Light Gull Grey - all sealed with W&N Galeria Flat Clear Here's another dry fit It's all quite crude, but still better than the kit part, I think. Nothing glued in yet, I still have to decide if I want to glue these and the windshield in before I mate the wings to the fuselage or afterwards.... I'm also considering using the kit second canopy as a mask for the cockpit, but this would leave the area immediately behind the bulkhead unpainted, since the canopy overlaps it, so I should paint it beforehand if I go down that route... decisions, decisions Meanwhile, all comments welcome Ciao
  6. Agreed, looking very good with almost all the bits on, Simon Ciao
  7. David and Dennis thank you (Dennis, also for the pics - you are a star!) I should have enough references for the fuel cap and prop bar slot positioning Thank you Cookie! BIG HOG should be BuNo 17640, so no eyebrow panel, I guess. Ciao
  8. The comparison between the last two shots is absolutely impressive! Ciao
  9. Really excellent job with decals and stickers, Simon! Ciao
  10. Well done, CC - definitely a big beast, I love the effect you obtained with the camouflage and finishing! Ciao
  11. Thanks Ian - although you make it sound like I was away for a month! I just went skiing a couple of (non consecutive) Saturdays, and I am now impatiently waiting for the weather to stop snowing on the mountains and get a chance to go out there a couple more times! Yeah, you! Thanks Johnny! I find clear UV resin and UV torch very useful Thanks Cookie and Terry, glad you like it! Thank you for pointing this out, I didn't notice. Too late for this build, I will surely file this away for next I'm guessing you mean this: The circle inside the red dashed .... circle is supposed to be where the green arrow points, right? And both wings, is it? Still plenty of time to fix that, so again Well, as I mentioned earlier in my build, I'll see after the primer coat - I'm keeping my options open, if they turn out too ugly, I'll just put tape on them. Otherwise, I saw a few wartime pics without the tape and with some interesting scuffing, so I'd like to give that a try. The aircraft I'm building isn't a Birdcage, so no problem there, but I reckon your point is useful since the Birdcage kit is this same one - again, great info for a future build Here's a bit of progress: I scored the lines around the rudder and the trim tab to give them some more depth - actually, I used a razor saw to completely separate three of the trim tab edges, in order to pose it slightly deflected: I cleaned up the scored lines by brushing in some TeT, and replaced the molded trim tab link with some brass pipe Now a question for the well informed: I can't quite make up my mind on the shape and size of the armored glass and the gunsight screen; this is what Tamiya supplies: This is the best pic I could find for it (source https://old-forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/374078-f4u-1-series-inaccuracies/) This is captioned to be from an F4u-1a Corsair, which also raises the question if the switch box on the top left of the IP coaming had always been there or introduced later at some point (my understanding was that it appeared on the -1D series). So, basically: shape and size of the armored glass? And how was it fitted to the windshield/coaming? And was the switchbox there on -1a Corsairs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ciao
  12. Amazing detailing job, Bruno Ciao
  13. Super-fine job with that front lip! Getting there, Simon! Ciao
  14. 🤞 for the surgery. I love the panel lines wash! Ciao
  15. True - I've never built a model without the need of some respray, at any point.... So, no bother Ciao
