So due to a host of boring reasons I have barely done any modelling the last 5+ years, and have certainly not finished anything in that time. This Centauro was in fact was nearly finished (got as far as weathering before modelling went on the back burner).
In the intervening 5 years, the cats got into the model room and this was one of the models they "played" with. Anything sticky out - aerials, handles, mirrors etc - was broken off, and the gun barrel was chewed to destruction, hence the makeshift camo net over the end!
Time off at Christmas gave me a chance to clear the garage enough to get to the workbench cleared and get back at it. Repairs were made, touch ups performed and a bit of weathering added. This will win no awards, but I'm happy just to have gotten back on the bike

This is looking stunning.
Sorry to hear about the missus - I've just been through Gall Bladder surgery myself, though thankfully without any of the complications your wife has had to put up with.
-
It's Airfix's fault, I'm still waiting for the new 1/72 kits to appear
You and me both - I've got a Model Alliance decal sheet for Indian Cranberries thats impatiently drumming its fingers waiting for a B(I).8
-
Luckily Tamiya recently released a series of JGSDF Camo. XF-72 to XF-74 from memory. Brown, Green and Olive Drab. Black is black, cockpit & rotor blades are NATO black.
-
Very nice - will look good once the weathering is on.

Well, since this months SAMI is now out, featuring this model, I'm now happy to post pics of it, after its stunning (to me anyway) 3rd place in 1/48 Aircraft at the Coventry show
I made a bit of a hash of the paintjob by airbrushing it freehand, so the black is a little overdone. I also broke off the whip arial in two stages at Coventry

Apologies for the quality of the pics - due to its large size, awkward shape, and dark paintjob, its a right beggar to take pics off

-
Well, I was thinking of giving it the title Of Herbs and Stewed Badger

OK, been doing a bit more on this. The face & hair are pretty much done apart from the lips and some touch-ups. Put the first coat on his clothes, but spotted in these pics a couple of areas that need a but more cleaning up

For the robes, I am using White Ensign enamels, partly because they are brilliant paints for both airbrushing and brush painting, but also because I have a selection of US Navy WW2 greys and blues which are ideal for Gandalf

I'm thinking of airbrushing the highlights for his robe, whaddya think?

All comments, criticism and advice welcome.

I've got a diorama I'm thinking of starting involving a knocked out Sdkfz 7/1 Flakvierling knocked out in Normandy, of the 1st or 2nd SS Panzer, using the classic Tamiya kit. The instructions state that it should be Panzer Grey overall, but surely by 1944 it would be yellow/brown/green?
If anyone has any pics of these in France I would be grateful.
-
they were hated by the crews
Not surprised! They probly tipped over every time the gun was fired

-
no they wouldn't
-
No it was'nt! The camouflage colours of red-brown and green were supplied as a paste for field application, the dark yellow was sprayed in the factory.
Probably by some slave-labourer starved to the edge of death, in between bombing raids, in partially ruined factories, using supplies made by slave-labourers starved to the edge of death, in between bombing raids, in partially ruined factories. And then you're going to cover it in weathering.
I really wouldn't worry too much about scale effect

-
Not really. I've got one or two profiles that others have done. Don't let that stop you from doing one though

-
Even at £4.50 I think I would still go for the Revell kit. Anyway, its all done now. Not my best model, but I did only have a week to do it, and I was concentrating on my Panzer II at the same time

Updated with 2nd Typhoon J, an air defence variant of 302 Hikotai. Built for the 1 Week Group Build on the What If forum

Not just the vapour cloud, but also the shock diamonds in the afterburner and the gold tint on the canopy.

Sand
Actually, childrens play sand, its a much finer grain than beach sand. MiG pigments for the tank. -
All done! Why is it that you always notice something missed AFTER you take the pics. Forgot to paint the crewmans hair

Excasperated at the poor performance of their Italian allies in the Desert War, the Adolf Hitler decided to try and bolster them by passing on some of their own superior equipment. Unfortunately the only equipment that Rommel was prepared to part with was a handful of obsolete Panzer IIs. These did nothing to improve the performance of the Ariete Armoured Division, and only further strained Germany/Italy relations as in German eyes the Italians no longer had any excuses for not being as reliable as German units.

Couple of coats of Xtracrylic Camoflage Grey. Probly needs another one for a smooth overall finish, its a bit grainy in places.

-
Been spraying Xtracrylic for the first time recently, getting OK results using screenwash as thinner. However I've been having a beggar of a time getting it out of the cup when finished. I normally use the Premi-air reamer which is fantastic with things like Tamiya paint, but Xtracrylic in the cup dries to leave a hard rubber finish that the only thing that seems to shift it is physically chipping it out with a toothpick!
Suggestions?

Hi Nev
I heard the Heller Mirages were not too bad?
or is it just the 2000?
Well, I only build the C, I heard the D was meant to be better. Apart from the enormous raised panel lines, no detail, appaling fit and I think the nose looks too thin and pointy...

is this a reboxing of the Heller kit please?
No, Airfix have reboxed the (appalling) Heller kit. The Italeri kit can be seen in a Revell box though.
Usually I would close up the canopies but the fit was so bad I had to have them open, which is a shame as it ruins the lovely lines of the aircraft!S'funny, I prefer the two-holer with the canopies open

I would add a coat of Klear first, - you're essentially brushing dirty thinners onto your model.
I would Matt Coat before pigments as they are very loosely attatched and I would be worried about the airbrush blasting them off

Absolutely gorgeous model, and that display method.....wow
Did you make the display cases yourself or buy them from somewhere?
