  1. Does anyone have any good photos or profiles of Ju 88A-17s? Preference would be to a machine used in the North against the Murmansk convoys. Try as I might, I haven't been able to find many pictures of this purpose built Ju 88 torpedo bomber. In addition, were all '88s in regular 70/71 paint scheme or were some of them painted in 72/73? Much Thanks
  2. Vicky the Vicious Virgin better be included as a decal option
  3. Here is my interpretation of the "Super Sherman" from the Axis of Time trilogy written by John Birmingham. The series is based around a time travel induced alternate history. To make a long story short, the "Super Sherman" described by the author is more or less just the Israeli M51 Sherman. I've taken the idea and adapted it to what could theoretically have been possible in our 1944. What I came up with was an up-armoured Easy Eight with a 90mm gun or an HVSS equipped Sherman Jumbo with a 90mm gun, however you prefer to look it.. Regardless, I prefer to call it the Big Easy. Enjoy... Forgive the poor image quality. I currently don't have access to an actual camera and my phone is a phone first with the camera feature coming way down the list.
  4. That is a simply fantastic paint job. Any secrets you care to share?
  5. Which kit is the Firebrand? I didn't think that one existed in 1/48
  6. How was the build? I've got one of these in the stash that I've been meaning to get around to one of these days. Great work by the way.
  7. Very nice Spitfire. May I ask how you got your decals to snuggle down so nicely?
  8. Very well done. Squint your eyes and you almost have a clipped wing P-40
  9. I'm planning on doing a model of that particular Sea Hornet. Does anyone know what color the prop spinners would have been?
  10. Its usually best to just toss Academy's decals... unless its one of their "Special Edition" kits in which case they use Cartograph decals which need no introduction.
  11. Superb paint work. I would have gone a little heavier with the weathering, but that's just me. Can we have some pics of underneath?
  12. I think you forgot to mask the middle on the top of the canopy, sometimes the Eduard masks only give you the perimeter of the panel and you need to fill in the middle yourself. The rest of the painting looks good though... perhaps a bit bright, but well done nonetheless.
  13. That it absolutely amazing! I have a severe weakness for "Luft '46" type aircraft. I do hope Revell re-pops this kit so I can shamefully copy your idea Fantastic work, keep it up!
  14. If you've ever played the Microsoft game "Crimson Skies" there's a plane very similar to this called the "Curtiss-Wright P-2 Warhawk"
  15. http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/Stories/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/382/language/en-CA/Roundel-Round-Up.aspx The later part is directed toward the RCAF roundel, however, the first part is all about the A, B, C, etc type roundels. Enjoy
  16. FLASH TRAFFIC. RECOMMEND ALERT ONE, RECOMMEND ALERT ONE (...sorry, had a Crimson Tide moment there ) I just finished painting my Condor with Vallejo Model Air: 71021 Black Green and 71124 USAF Green. Although not perfect per see, it looks pretty damn good to me. They look a little off at first, but with a good coat of Future they darken up just enough and compliment each other well. Both colors are towards the cool (blue) end of the green spectrum, which makes sense as 72/73 were, from what I have read, essentially maritime versions of the standard bomber colors of 70/71, with those two being more towards the warm (yellow) end of the green spectrum. Those Xtracrylics colors look pretty good, they are perhaps a "shade" darker than the colors I used. Although... I don't know if I can trust a member of Hydra
  17. I've got three big German maritime patrol aircraft in the stash. The 1/72 scale Revell Germany Fw 200, Bv 222 and Ju 290; which of course are all in 72/73/65. I've been racking my brains and exhausting the internet looking for good matches to these colors as well. MM Acryl aren't even in the ballpark and all equivalents for Tamiya, Vallejo, etc I've found are just as bad. Of course it doesn't help that every build I find with colors that look good, the person has made their own mix. Although I'm not entirely against mixing, it would just make life so much easier to have a bottle ready to go. A bottle of acrylic paint I should specify. On a similar note, I have found that if you switch MM Acryl 70 and 74 they look a lot better when next to the other camouflage colors. In addition 65, 71, 75, 76 are pretty damn close to the real deal.
  18. Looking really good. It might just be the lighting or my eyes, but the camouflage looks closer to dark earth and mid stone rather that dark earth/dark green
  19. When did they stop/start mounting the wooden box to the tail fins?
  20. That's definitely better than anything I could find, thanks.
  21. Hey all So I'm just about finished my Accurate Miniatures Avenger (In the Academy box) and I've decided that seeing as how the Avenger was designed as a torpedo bomber, it just makes sense to put a big ol' Mk.13 Torpedo in the weapons bay as opposed to standard GP bombs. As the Academy boxing only comes with bombs, I've sourced a very nice resin torpedo from True Details, however, I'll be damned if I know how to mount the darn thing in the weapons bay. I've tried every combination of "torpedo, avenger, mount, etc" in Google that I can think of, but to no avail. That is why now, I rest my fate in the paint and cyanoacrylate covered hands of my fellow (brit)modellers... Regards, KHood
  22. Built this same kit with the RAAF markings. Academy kits are great, I just wish their kits had better decals... so far only the "Special Edition" kits feature Cartograf decals.
  23. "IDF Green" is almost spot on for 'RAF Interior Green" BTW I've done some experimenting and I've found that not only can I thin Vallejo paint with Model Master Acrylic Thinner, but I can mix the two different paints together with no noticeable side effects
