  1. Definitely not, first time I've tried a whole aircraft. I've only done flaps and control surfaces before or tiny sections after sanding. Need more practice to get it right before I do my three F-16XLs (Yup, three!)
  2. Originally released in the 1960s and available (yet again) this year it has been superseded by the beautiful offering from Sweet. I'll be building this OOB but using decals from the Sweet kit for 43-6819 flown by Capt. Duane W “Bee” Beeson. The Revell kit comes with decals (rather nice quality as well!) for Yeager's "Glamorous Glen" and I'm saving those for one of the Sweet kits.

  4. DISASTER!!! I did an oil wash this afternoon and as I was removing it the black decals started to rub off! They didn't disintegrate, the ink was lifting! Really strange because it had two coats of Humbrol Clear to seal them yesterday and all the other decals were fine. So out came my trusty detail brush and a slightly thinned revel acrylic black and I managed to patch them up. Thankfully it wasn't any of the other decals or I would have been really stuck. I'll let everything settle down overnight and tomorrow I should get the satin coat on and that will just leave the final assembly.
  5. I get the same trouble with Revell's No.12 Yellow gloss, just does not build up the colour well. If you have some try a couple of coats of No.15 Yellow matt (nothing like the lid colour, more like Humbrol 24 Trainer yellow) followed by your Lufthansa yellow. This works for me every time, might be worth doing a test on something just in case the combo is too dark though.
  6. Airfix 1/72 A-4B Skyhawk VA-95 "Green Lizards" U.S.S. Intrepid Museum exhibit. Scratch built flaps, nose gear collar, bridle hooks, aileron inhibiting plates, Landing light (with white cover), tail light, RBF tag and windscreen wiper. Other than that OOB. Build thread
  7. And I'm done! Last few details were done last night and this morning, mainly involved the oil, dirt and rust marks on the gear and around the centreline pylon. These were done with oils and I did a dark reddish brown wash around the main gear tyres because the tyres on the exhibit are semi-gloss black on the sides but look to have discoloured badly around the tread. This morning I used an orangey brown pastel to give the tyres a bit of depth to the effect, once that was done, I gave it a final coat of Humbrol Clear. Hope you all enjoyed the build, I've had lots of fun building it. P.S. Is this the first time someone's built a model of an aircraft as the museum exhibit and not the operational version??   8. I knew there was something wrong the second time I wrote it. I know what did it, I spent hours trying to find if the FAEC ever fitted ventral tanks and I'd typed it soooo many times it got stuck in my head! I'll go back and correct it, cheers for that. OK, stop that right now! My brain hurts enough as it is...

  10. The glazing on the re-pop isn't bad at all, it's clear, well formed and just a hint of flash . I know what you mean about the poor quality of most re-pop clear parts, I had a Whitley once... Oh boy!
  11. The wings are now on and filled ready for a good sanding session to eliminate the small step at the wing root. I've also started work on the dorsal* fin. * Corrected from ventral, thank you dogsbody for pointing it out
  12. Spent some time this morning fitting the stand I want to use, it's from an IXO 1/144 A-26 (now converted to a fire bomber) and is a really nice shape. There's a hollow part at the rear of the base, so I packed it out with Liquid Gravity to give it a bit more weight. I used a big blob of blu-tac to work out the display angle I wanted and give me a guide for the correct drilling angle. Once that was done I used some scrap card to make a surround for the base pin to lock into, looks a mess but it won't be seen inside the all black interior once it's painted. I did a dry fit test of the mount and I'm glad to say there's no chance of it tipping over
  13. Now we know why this kit is in two colours... One's carbon fibre the other's kevlar Glad to hear it survived, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

  15. Now I'm really confused I've got two, the one I thought was a repop is dark blue. I remember seeing a He.111 in dark blue over 20 years ago but it's the only Frog kit I've seen in this colour, (I was told about a Wallace in dark blue but never saw it) but because dark blue has been used by many manufactures I didn't think it was a genuine Frog. The second kit is yellow like my Magister, Proctor and (now built) Hotspur. This is the one I thought must be genuine because the colour is the same. Weird
  16. There was an English Electric P.1 that went for £75 last week Does anyone know what a Frog P-39 is worth nowadays? It's definitely one of the Frog test shots and not the Novo. I'm curious because I've found very little info on it and never seen one on eBay.
  17. Main gear legs installed and I've prepared the resin wheels. They're just pushed on at the moment, I had to drill the hubs out and made sure they're a nice tight fit to make it easier to fit them after painting.

  19. Engine built, painted and fitted. Once that was in I fitted the front cowl and got that sanded, filled, scribed, sanded, filled & scribed.... The kit guns were misaligned along the seam line and not worth trying to correct so I've made some new sets.

  21. Undercarriage doors now flush and rescribed and I've fitted the bubble top spine and first pass with some green putty.
  22. I sprayed the prop and the two black exhaust panels earlier today and after letting them dry thoroughly applied the KORA decals. I was dubious about the rudder decals but they wrapped around perfectly.
  23. Now if it was a Fujitrumptamigawa kit it would have 217 parts, resin, PE, rubber tyres, 23 decals options.... And take half a year to build! I love the Zvezda 1/144 aircraft range for a bit of building fun, built and painted (hairy stick) a Lagg-3 in two hours, no real detail in the kit but it was just so satisfying to say "Done." and stick it on a shelf.
  24. Made a start on this one tonight, the fuselage halves are together and the pilots seat is in. The four pegs for the seat needed a little fettling due to none of them lining up and the fuselage was very slightly warped but other than that it went together well. I've fitted all the wheel bay doors and strengthened the joints from behind with some scrap card. The short shot on the wing has been patched with a thin disc of cut sprue and some Mr. Surfacer, I've put some around the wheel well to seal and strengthen the edges as well.
