Not likely to hit much then...

I've made a start on the cockpit. So far the only surviving kit parts are the bulk of the seats and half of the rear block. I still have quite a bit to do in there, side consoles, instalment panels, rear bulkhead quilting, seat pads and the armour for the sides and top of the seats. Fun! I sanded down all the panel line filler this morning and applied a second coat as well as fill some of the sink marks. Funny thing I noticed when researching the exterior detail, the little "steps" sticking out of the fuselage for the pilot and gunner are in the correct positions but are on the wrong sides! So... They're gone.

Airfix Arado 196 & Revell/Matchbox Canberra

Well they did give us ABBA! -
Having had a good look at the parts and a lot of reference photos I've planned exactly what I'm doing with this one. I need to correct a few external details including scribing a few more panel lines, I'm not going to go mental with these, just a few major ones. I already had an idea of how to swap the tail rotor from starboard to port, now I've got the kit I'm confident it will work and will probably be easier than I thought Internally the cockpit is going to get a lot of work. I'll be cutting down the rear "block" into to make a new rear section and bulkhead, the seats will be cut down and narrowed with padding added along with a set of belts. I'm going to scratch build a new floor section to the full width of the internal fuselage with new thinner side armour that will look a bit more to scale, this will hopefully allow me to add side consoles and I'll need to make some tail rotor pedals. For the armament, I'm going to have to work on the M200 rocket pods due to them having 20, not 19 rockets! And lastly, I'm going to work on the nose turret to make it a little more authentic and scratch build a M134 for it... Not a lot to do then

It's Mr.Surfacer 500, great for stuff like this. I started using it because I was drowning my 1/144 stuff in green putty on seams and tiny sink marks and having to rescribe half a model every time, they say you can paint it on but I use a cocktail stick to apply it. Once it's hardened it's easy to sand, blends perfectly with the surface and scribes just like plastic. I paid about £5 for a pot and it seems to last forever!

Well I'm already working on my Cuban F-47 & have started one of my AH-1Gs but if I've got some spare time (I've got another 3 big projects in full swing as well) I could do the Spitfire and/or the 262. They're the only other kits in the range that I can confirm have been superseded, there's a Wildcat I could do but my local Antics are out of stock. On top of all these, I'm thinking of entering my second AH-1G as something very unusual and possibly not seen as a modelled subject... -
I took almost all the parts off the sprue with a razor saw, there are a few very chunky ones in there.

Started life as a prebuilt half plastic, half metal display model. I removed the nose guns and turrets, filled in those areas and sanded down the rear dorsal glazing. I also detailed and painted the cockpit but not a lot can be seen through the canopy, at least I know it's there. Finished in the fictional colours and markings of "East Coast Fire Dogs". (My first home printed decals) I checked the FAA website and N-426FD is not currently registered, 426 (A26) FD (Fire Dogs). Never let it be said that I don't go a bit daft with these ideas

I made a bit of a start on this one. Nothing much, just removed all the parts from the sprue, cleaned a few of them up and glued the rocket and gun pods together.

Or Airfix. Let Revell handle the modern stuff and Airfix could do from WWII up to the cold war. Whole host of subjects to choose from and with the quality they're turning out they would be on to a winner. They just need to do something about their deep panel lines, it's all too easy to ruin a 1/144 as my Trumpeter Flanker proves with it's panel lines that would make a Matchbox kit jealous -

All that's left to do now is some weathering and matt coat, I painted the prop and undercarriage last night and fitted them this morning. I'd say the nose gear is the best part of the kit... So the nose is all wrong, the rear fuselage is too long and thin, the prop is oversized, the canopy is undersized and the door is too big but at least it's not a tail sitter. That might have something to do with the Liquid Gravity filling the nose from the prop to the windshield! I had to put a second lot in there yesterday before I popped the canopy on after doing a test fit of the undercarriage -

Managed to make something half decent out of the flash covered prop and painted it last night. This morning I painted the undercarriage and fitted them along with the tanks. I had to cut down the mounting point of the tanks due to them hanging a scale foot too low! After that I gave it a coat of Humbrol Clear to seal the decals, all that's left to do is some weathering and a final matt coat. -

Did a little bit of painting last night the join up the two mouth decals as per the real aircraft, as well as painting the undercarriage and prop. Gave it a coat of Humbrol Clear to seal the decals this morning and fitted the last bits, all that's left to do is some weathering and a final matt coat. -

Decals are on but I need to work on the canopy and I've still got to paint the wheels. -

Decals are on and I love this scheme! A little bit of touching up to do but it's getting there.
