  1. This scheme (even without the invasion stripes) makes the Dauntless look very aggressive compared to the US Navy machines, I really like it and might do one in 1/144 for myself. Great build and a great result!
  2. That's looking really good. From their conventional to their most unusual designs there's something about Arado aircraft that always appeals to me.
  3. Is it me, or is something here a bit weird? You say you missed the close but the time of your post is 11:25pm, 34 minutes before the close. The clocks went back 1h the UK at 2am yesterday which is out of sync with Sydney (1h forward 6th Oct if I've done my research correctly). I'm wondering if this has caused the time show incorrectly on the forum for you? It's the only thing I can think of to explain it. If this is the case, I would have thought your build should still be allowed in the gallery as this wasn't really your fault. Either way it's a great build and a beautiful aircraft.
  4. Bombs fitted, prop fitted, aerial fitted, some weathering done... The other rather tedious task completed today was to paint over all the blue decal parts. I wasn't happy with the slight difference in colour between my decals and the Esci decals and to be honest I thought both looked a little too light. I should be able to wrap this one up tomorrow with a bit more weathering and a final top coat.
  5. The main fuselage, fin and wings are now scribed and the fuselage is together with absolutely no need for filler, which was unexpected. To give you an idea how small it is...
  6. Cheers guys. Sgt.Squarehead, you'll be glad to hear I've now bought a bit of armour, so another non-winged subject coming up for the group build.
  7. I'm close to finishing my Cuban F-47D (5th build), I'm half way through my AH-1G (6th), I've started my little Concorde (7th) and I have another AH-1G to do (8th)... Now I've gone and bought some more kits! No.9 with be a nice bit of 1/72 armour and if I have time, No.10 will be something very special from Matchbox. Damn you eBay!!!!! I really think I have a problem... I may need professional help! So does anyone want to guess what the "very special" Matchbox kit is? Here's a clue: Double Genesis
  8. Having now found lots of info and photos of the prototype I now know what I'm doing with it... I need to make the exhaust nozzles as they are not supplied in the kit, the intakes need quite a bit of thinning and I've decided to erase and scribe the panel lines. I've done some research on the scheme and it's not all over white like the illustration I found online, the whole underside and the top of the wings are natural metal with white on the upper fuselage and tail. (Plus the blue stripe) so It should look quite stunning. (hopefully)
  9. What a lovely build And what a fantastic effect from masking the ribs!
  10. Great... All I can think about now is a fairy dorsal gunner trying to take down a rather unusual aircraft with nine Rangifer tarandus engines piloted by a rotund and extremely jolly pensioner.
  11. Thanks for the info Now I know what I'm looking for I found a couple of great photos of the nose and I will have to do a little bit of work to match as Heller seems to have tried to do their own thing... Nothing some plastic card and putty can't sort out. I love building unusual subjects so the combination of prototype and unusual scheme really hits the mark!
  12. Entry number 7... I should ban myself from eBay Part of the Heller Cadet range released in 1974 and superseded by Revell's 1/288 "Easy Kit". I know it's a bit tongue-in-cheek as the Revell kit is pre-painted and probably has less parts than your average potato. But it does say "Kit" on the box! From my initial inspection it looks to be a nice little kit. Well moulded parts, very fine raised details and a full set of cabin window holes. I was expecting indents or decals to represent them but this means I can use a tiny drop of Krystal Klear and they should look stunning. Compared to the Heller Cadet 1/100 Trident I built at the beginning of the year this kit is great, I honestly thought it was going to be awful. The only things I need to sort out are the cockpit glazing area (looks wrong to me), the undercarriage doors will need to be replaced with thin card as the kit parts look like plate armour in this scale lastly the only real problem, the one piece wing has turned into a banana along its length. The box art shows it in the standard Air France livery, I had intended printing some BA decals to replace them but the markings supplied are for the initial Air France order scheme which I really like so I'll be using those. I'll scan them just in case I have any problems. This is the scheme the decals are for, you can see why I'm sticking with them
  13. Tell me about it, I've had some real problems in the past with the finish of metallic acrylics. With this one I spent ages rubbing down the primer with 2000 grit wet & dry, it's made such a difference and was worth the mind numbing hours it took to do. I've sprayed some black on it today for the anti-glare panel, exhaust & super charger areas. I'm doing panel lines at the moment with my trusty Pitt pen.
  14. I was looking forward to "Goldmember's Scooter"... I'll keep an eye out for it. Build it when you know you'll enjoy it, being disappointed in a build because you've had to rush it isn't fun at all.
  15. More random panels done today, this time slightly lighter than the base silver. I love the way the flash emphasises the shade differences.
  16. Well the Testors kit is using the old Hawk mould from 1955 and it's been superseded by Airfix, Heller, Academy, Czech Master Resin & Hobby Boss. So you should be OK with this one.
  17. That's a beautiful job on those wheel wells
  18. It's been almost two weeks since I did anything to this one due to getting carried away with my HueyCobra I've sprayed a few panels in slightly darker shades today, I used the same Revell acrylic silver as before but just added varying amounts of gloss black. I'll be doing more soon but adding a little white to lighten them. Picture is a bit poor but I can't use the flash (I tried and went blind ) so I used night mode.
  19. It's been a busy day! The tail is on, as are the stub wings, tailplanes and the top fairing. All have had some Mr.Surfacer and a good sanding, now I just have to go over a few of the panel lines again and I can start adding some detail parts. I added a small section of card under the rear of the tail boom and blended it in as it narrows too much at the join to the tail assembly.
  20. I've spent about an hour trying to find the website I found them on tonight (technically it's last night now, but you get the idea) but I've not come across it again. I originally found it whilst looking for something else and it's one of the few plans I've found that had both early and late versions of the "G". I'll keep having a dig around the net to see if I can stumble across it again. I've made and fitted the clear nose with the twin landing lights tonight. It's just a lump of clear sprue filed down, the lights were made by drilling into the block and painting the holes silver and using a black Sharpe to blacken the back of the clear part and the blunt tip of the nose. Using a Sharpe to do this gives a much stronger bond when using CA than if you use paint.
  21. I've been working from scale plans, I print several on one sheet so I can cut parts out as guides for scribing etc.
  22. As hythe said, it is the worst part of the kit, totally inaccurate and I really don't know what Matchbox were thinking when they designed it. So I opened up the exhaust aperture and stared hunting around for something to make the exhaust from. As luck would have it, I found the Academy rocket launcher I used parts from to improve the rocket pods on this kit fitted perfectly. I capped one end with some plasticard and carefully thinned the edge of the other with a scalpel and some wet & dry, with that done I just had to work out how to mount and leave a tiny gap around it. I tried bits of card in various places to stand it off from the fuselage but it was always a little lopsided. In the end I just wrapped it in 3mm masking tape and kept unwinding it until it sat exactly where I needed it then glued it in place. I added a few bits of scrap card at the capped end to strengthen it and gave it a lick of Revell acrylic Anthracite. With that done I fitted the cockpit and glued the fuselage together. I applied some green putty and once that was sanded a layer of Mr.Surfacer.
