F-84 Thunderjet Tamiya 1/72 - Finished
Speedman replied to AndrewE's topic in Korean War Group Build
Brilliant! Great work on the canopy -
Nice work! I've a soft spot for the old Matchbox kits, I just wish I had the room to build more 1/72 stuff.

That's why I build 1/144 Nice job on the build. Shame about the vac canopy but I think we've all mucked up canopies of any sort at some point.- 102 replies

Fantastic work! -
Thanks The decals are on. Tonight I'll be doing some detail painting, a bit more post shading (dirty up those very bright decals) and a couple of Clear coats.
-
That scheme will look stunning once it's finished!

It looks great, I can't wait to see it finished.

The wonderful joys of filling and sanding followed by more of the same. One of those evil necessities when not building a "shake 'n bake" kit. Great work so far!

Lower surfaces, light and dark post shading, filter and 2 coats of Clear on... GR7 Matador
-
After priming them, (no photos) I did some pre shading. I want the Matador looking quite grubby and the GR7 a little "used", so I'm trying a variation of the shading technique I tried in the F-14 group build. I used blue, red, green, grey and white to create a random spot pattern over the whole model. I then pre-shaded the panel lines in black like normal. I've also sprayed the upper surfaces on both models as well. Sat on the paint encrusted sheet of kitchen towel I've used for the past 17 months to spray on, the dot patterns make a great camo

Airfix 1/72 F-51 Mustang SAAF - Completed
Speedman replied to Speedman's topic in Korean War Group Build
It could have done with a little strip at the edge of the aileron as well. I had to use some filler and do some careful sanding to level it off. The wings, tailplane and rudder are on. It needed a tiny bit of Mr Surfacer on the front join but other than that the fit was great. -
And it's the same story for me. I'm thrilled that I placed, but as 90% of my builds are 1/144 (or smaller) I'd never get to use the decals. It's been a great group build and I'd like to thank Dave, Giorgio & Mish for hosting, and thanks to Fightertown Decals for providing the prizes. Brian, if your reading this, please can you do some 1/144 stuff again. (F-16 & F-5 adversary schemes would be nice) It's interesting that 7 of the 19 entries were 1/144, the highest ratio I've seen in any group. (Excluding the 1/144 group before ANY of you try to point that one out )

Airfix 1/72 F-51 Mustang SAAF - Completed
Speedman replied to Speedman's topic in Korean War Group Build
It is weird, but I've been making up for it by cutting out a dozen rocket pylons. Each one had a tiny piece of rod glued to it as a locating pin as well! They're glued in place and I've applied a little Mr Surfacer, just a bit of sanding to neaten them up and the wing will be ready for fitting. -
Thanks guys The wing and tailplane are on and I sorted out the engine detail. I Photoshopped some engine photos I found online down to 9mm, then used one of my scribing templates as a guide for cutting them out. I've sealed the back and front with Liquid Decal Film so the ink doesn't run when I glue them in place. I did a quick test fitting and it looks the part, a lot better than leaving it blank. (I told you it was cunning!)
