Master Box 1/72 Mk.1 Female - Completed
Speedman replied to Speedman's topic in World War One, 100th Anniversary Group Build
I've started painting the little beast and I've decided to go down the "artistic licence" route with the camouflage pattern. Having searched through lots of websites and forums, there are so many differing opinions on patterns and colours used that I could spend weeks trying to nail down an exact match to a single tank. Therefore, I'm going to loosely base the pattern on a photo of I found of a Male tank with partial black outlines over a small pattern. As for colour, I'm mixing my own and trying to compensate for scale and any filters and post shading I'll be doing.- 63 replies

To give it some scale... As for tiny, my usual AFV scale is 1/100 so this is a bit of a giant in comparison I just love these tiny kits to work on, here's Zvezda's Dingo Mk1 with a corrected front end and scratch built lights, tow hooks, lifting eyelets, tail light & horn I need help...- 63 replies

Thanks guys The tracks were a dream to fit, plastic + CA + rubber tracks = EASY! I have done a tiny bit of scratch building, I wasn't happy with the kit towing bracket so I replaced it with two bits of 10 thou and a bent piece of rod.- 63 replies

Very nice I've primed and given it a rub down with 2000 grit wet & dry, thankfully there's nothing to touch up so I can get on with painting -

It's a lovely kit It needs a bit of fettling to get a good fit on the sponson roofs and the main spring part was slightly bent on the sprue (you can see it in the photos) but I'll bend that out later. Another hour with this one and I'm here...- 63 replies

I was tempted to venture into WWI aircraft for the first time, until this caught my eye and the potential for weathering was too much to resist. It'll be OOB. (I have drilled the gun barrels out though...) They have managed to etch the grill with a very realistic 3D weave, I can't wait to shade and dry brush it! After an hour and a half... It goes together well!

GR7s against Iraq (Airfix 1/72 x 2)
Speedman replied to Procopius's topic in Harrier Single Type Group Build II
I agree 110%. When I built my airsoft close quarters grenade launcher, I hand painted a P-40 style sharkmouth on it. Ooooohh... A sharkmouth group build. I think a lot of people would be up for that! Two things that should never be in the same sentence: "Close quarters" & "grenade launcher" P.S. When are you going to paint something in hedgehogouflage?- 81 replies

I fitted the undercarriage about 00:30 and then got on with some detail painting... That just left the weapons and tanks to fit very early this morning along with the final detail painting. Just a final coat of satin varnish and removal of the canopy masks and they'll be done. You can just make out a dot of Kristal Klear drying on the tip of the GR7's nose. Tiny little buggers, aren't they!

Airfix 1/72 F-51 Mustang SAAF - Completed
Speedman replied to Speedman's topic in Korean War Group Build
After a lot of research, and a few questions on several SAAF forums, it's generally accepted that the SAAF F-51Ds had puttied wings with a silver lacquer. Soooooo, lots of Mr Surfacer and some carfull sanding later... I've also glued, blended, snaded and started polishing the canopy for a seamless join. -
I'm nearly there with these After a bit more post shading and more Clear coats, I gave both of them a pin wash with oils, once dry they had a rub down with some paper towel and cotton buds. The wheels were fun to paint... Both will carry drop tanks, apart from the tanks the Matador will be clean but the GR7 will carry AGM-65 & Aim-9 as it's loadout.

Sweet 1/144 P-51B Mustang x2 (Glen & Rosey) - Completed
Speedman replied to Speedman's topic in P-51Mustang STGB II
Well, I've made a start on them today and there's almost as many parts in one of these as the Airfix P-51D I'm doing for the Korea group! As for how long it takes to complete them... Start counting I tried out Revell's Fern Green acrylic (36360) for the first time and weathered it with Citadel Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil shades. I've still got some dry brushing in the main wells to do yet. -
Looking good I find that the tone of the paint can be changed in photos depending on the colour of the surface the model is sitting on. Depending on what colour they're sitting on, (white paper, grey or green cutting mat, wood effect table) the photos I take of my primed models can have very noticeable blue or pink tints. Always the same primer, it's just the background fooling the cameras auto white balance. Lighting can have an effect, but I find it's the background that makes the most difference.
