  1. I'm putting this out there and accept that I am placing a noose around my neck, whislt face planting a can of worms but I believe there is an effect that alters the perception of a colour the farther you are away from it, 'scale effect?' So what shade of a colour is the right colour? As someone with slight blue-green colour blindness I have always trusted others description/mixes of any colour I am using, on the basis that they are right. Discuss..... Box on Strickers
  2. I have just two words to say Hay on Wye! With your permission I would like to join in your obsession with the 'air war' such as it was during the sit-down and the flash. Desk-top survey of airfields first methinks. Box On Strickers
  3. I totally agree, the hit of dopamine that I get when I assemble, paint and weather a sub-assembly that will never been commented on let alone seen is adictive. I once showed a model to a work colleague and he noticed stuff that my other critic (SWMBO) had or would never, I just about contained the urge to do an Irish jig with clappy hands. This thread has reminded me that there were a lot of air related work being done by countries who only merit a few paragraphs in the time line of 1939-40. I realise I now have too many Hurris and Spits in the stash and need to diversify I wonder if there will be a Kit-swap at this years SMW? Box On Strickers
  4. Please stop, my collie cross is howling at the sky. As an aside did the the Man from Arma say which bit of the flap had to be sanded? I empathise with the dunny dash but always find the fly fandango three seconds too long. Anyhoo raised eyebrow time due to fuse seam filler requirement. Box on Strickers
  5. Been dying to use this adjective.....a very Procopious update Now I'm back at the bench, and the 1/48 tiger moth a glacier that is my current build finally calves into the ocean I think it is a trip to the Arma section of the stash. Nice cockpit detailing, did you establish how to get the flaps modelled up? Box on Strickers
  6. How do you manage? I have trouble getting a few parts off the sprue and cleaned up in one session, you decorate the ablution block build two models and have time to drink beer. Cracking set coming together here. Enjoying your journey. Box on Strickers
  7. Well Johnny, today has been Procopius-esk in its twists and turns. Started with Merlin my nine month old cocker eating the white plastic covid test result, strip thingy and it was the first negativ one in 10 days! Followed by a long rummage to collect all my photographic equipment, I know I could use my phone, but it is supplied by my employer so might not be a smart move to use it to post pictures here. Also I get frustrated with the 'sometimes it recognises my finger, sometimes it doesn't' attitude that the thing has. I had intended to take and post some pictures using an account I set up with village photos ages ago, but it seems this is now not possible and so had to set up an account with imigur, which I am not familiar with, so bear with. This was interspersed with a few interesting calls, (I provide emergency technical advice for the Local authority I work for) one being a traffic cone up a tree, and more reports that the 'friends' of the wild geese evicted from a strech of canal in the borough are taking 'revenge' against walkers on the towpath...again. Nevertheless I managed to get a good solid session in the Cave, and started with a practice on the airbrush, which I am now getting more confident with and starting to get a feel for the air pressure/ paint flow ratios of the different Vallejo air colours I use. That done, I started hacking into the internal nose section, as the beautiful Dekno engine is larger that the space availble in the kit. It will fit but needs some careful gouging out of the nose section, also it doesn't come with an exhasut so I cobbled up a new one using bits of the kit manifold attached to a suitably sized bit of strected sprue. The air deflector on the port side had to be eased to mate with the new engine too. Pipes and wire runs were added based on photos from the Hanyes manual and a base coat mix of gunmetal and sparkly black sprayed over the engine. The build had stalled on the internals and I managed to add the lap belts to the fron seat, I intend to have the shoulder straps dangled carelessly over the open front doors so these were bent to an aproximate fit and will be added almost at the end of the build, which could be some time. If I can, work out how to, I will try and post a few photos of the engine as it is a smasher, and may get another to shoehorn into the Chipmunk I have in the stash. With regard to the spin strakes, I believe that Tiggies will have been produced without them and then kits supplied and fitted at a later date as well as with them off the production line, so unless you have a definite photographic source, an airframe could be depicted with or without, your model, your choice. Anyhoo keep up your good work Box on Strickers
  8. Well Johnny, glueing and fettling is on the agenda today. I have acquired a gypsy major engine from the big yellow H, so I see a bit rhinoplasticity in my near future. The supplied engine whilst more than acceptable lacks a few greeblies between it and the firewall, and I intend to have both engine covers open. So a big slap on the back as you have dragged a modelling sloth off his branch. Box on Strickers
  9. Totally agree, it wasn't meant as a critisim, just a point for discusion. After I posted I went down the rabbit hole on the interweb and found some very unusual interior colours for moffs, will engage brain before allowing fingers to do my talking in future. Keep up the good work fella have managed to get my build restated, no progress as yet but I've pulled the bits out their box and onto the front of the bench. Every journey starts with one step or in my case a series of shuffles. Box On Strickers
  10. Hello Jonny, Just a discussion point really, I note that you have coloured the entire cockpit interior the usual green. I know that doped linen had/has a red/pink colour which would only be covered by the outside/flying side of the panel or area. I notice Perdu has done this on the internal lower area of the cockpit on his Hart build and seem to remember that it is the colour always called out for the inside of swordfish (es). Like I said only a discussion point, as I could possibly be way off on this. Box on Strickers
  11. How to skin a cat, lesson 8? There are techo's hereabouts who would have jumped on their Macboxes and used the electrons and ether to fashion said cooler using their Marsbars 4, (or similar approved). For me this has a bit of old fashioed finesse, the type that I used to, and still do, aspire to, and still gives a top notch result. Fond memories of this kit, big gluey thumb prints, bright stickers and no paint needed cos the plastic was silver. Box on Strickers
  12. How right you are Bill, but I had to Goggle it. The concept of solar flares going off in the modelling half of my brain strrikes a chord, I can still smell the burning from the time I got my first SIHRSC. Anyhoo lets hope Edward gets time to continue. Box on Strickers
  13. That reminds me of the quote from blade runner, which I can't remember now, (Swiss chesse brain added to the effects of Omicron). 🤧😷 Could this internal solar flaring qualify me for induction into the Procopicorps? Box on Strickers
  14. It is with regret that I have realised that within these words my current self assessment of my modelling skill resides. I remember, (just) when my first-born was very young, the feeling that I was close to the event horizon, and the consternation of realising that bits of me and my life were visible from angles that should have been physically impossible. The laughter started when I saw that it was happening to everyone else you know the sort, the wild eyed high pitched type. Exquisite use of small amounts of pigment old chap, PB required to match this. Box on Strickers
  15. Lovely update, obviously the spark provided by from the fathers fire striker is taking hold. Reading destructions? good start. Spat me tea out when you described Grant's clenching, took me back 55 years! Box On Strickers
  16. Whilst I've been here a long time, I am not that confident to diarise my attempts, yet; maybe a couple of RFI's in the near future as a start, if I can work out which photo hoster thingy is easiest to use. Box On Strickers
  17. I was always told 'make it short' saves shortening it. Madelaine will become Mad or Maddy, Samantha will become Sammy or Sam. The Arma kits, require a skill set that demands accuracy in building and painting, which being one of those in the center of the bell curve is where I aspire. As always Box On Strickers
  18. You would think, but going wrong seems to be par for the course at my end. Box On Strickers
  19. I've had a scan of the distructions, and thought that thin strips of tamiya tape covering the low and sticky up bits, then paint on the zinc colour. Need to go back through Lope's Hope III, to check the master! Box On Strickers
  20. Started one before Christmas, ran out of puff, I'm hoping that yours will cause a restart. Eyes not too good now so sat right at the front Box On Strickers
  21. A+ for the model and surely A++ for the work involved in creating the paint scheme. How long did the masking actually take? Strickers
  22. Man I've missed you, and yep I have the kit, and yep it is the gold standard. Belated congrats to you and Mrs P, I am sure a girl will balance life. Now on with the show! Box On Strickers
