Phantom FG.1 (F-4K) RN Fujimi 1/72
chuckb1 replied to Andre Cardoso's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Absolutely love this, A Pussers Phantom for me is the ultimate UK version of the Phantom. A very clean and well finished build. Thank you for sharing. Kind Regards Brendan -
Just looking at the LEANDER, Chewitt I doff my lid to you sir, the main roof and aerials are absolutely perfect. I used to make them up on-board ship, Rigging the bloody things was a real pain in mid winter and then getting up the mast to hoist them and set to work. Copper wire and freezing fingers are not a good combination.

Chewitt she is looking good, the HMS Leander is spot on love that. Got a 4 ship (I think gift set somewhere in the stash. Must have had it for about 10 years I reckon. My first pussers war canoe was the D19 HMS Glamorgan. I am asking the "Boss" for the AM kit of her. Spoken to the man at AM and he said he can do all the bits and bobs to do her as she was on her final commission. No Sea Cat, 40/60 Bofors instead and the twin 20mm's on the half deck on the Port and Stbd waists. I was the Stbd 20mm aimer on the Half Deck for my off watch action station. Our mounting was WW2 vintage the pattern date on the mounting was 1943 and the Oerlikons were 1944. If I had been into it all as much as I am now I should have or could have looked up their batch numbers to see what craft they were originally mounted on. Keep going on Phoebes, she is stunning!

Lovely start to the build and the Deck green is spot on. I served on Leanders and Phoebe's was 7th FS home port was Plymouth, I see you are building her pre 1974 before she was converted to Exocet/Sea Cat, the later to TA. Hope this may help, her flight deck letters were PB, PN was Penelope.Phoebes Westland Wasp was Gloss Blue in the early 70's. The budgies were not painted grey until the 80's. Chewitt I feel a right pedantic git typing that, but as you have started so well it would be nice to carry her on and get her right. Seeing this kit makes me want to go and get one and do Diomede, Cleopatra, Charybdis, Sirius or Minerva. Served on all of them before I changed cap badge. This is how I remember her in the 80's on frigate alley in Guzz. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234978918-hms-phoebe-1600-airfix-kit-conversion/

I say! That will look good against its little brother later on this year. Avatar will then have two P-40's in it. Big and little

Evening all, Now that my students have broken up for summer it is time for the first build of down time from teaching, marking, assessing and Holistically caring for my teenage brood of monsters. Challenge one is; can a 35 year plus kit be brought up to date? There are techniques that I have wanted to attempt for ages, one is to master the art of brass and resin. The challenge is on. Update, sand fill scribe and rivet the mighty Matchbox Messerschmitt into an updated 21st Century build So its Dremel, sanding sticks and filler at the ready. First of all the bits and bobs pictures. Wish me luck gluers, painters and stickers.I must be mad

Lovely build and use of the etch. Love the A to I class pre war destroyers. Good work sir

I think the economy will play a huge part in their release schedule, global sales will dictate their strategy. Meanwhile I will live in hope for a 1/72 Beaufort and a re tool Hampden and Wellington. They made such a lovely job of the Whitley, I really do hope they carry on with the British twins theme. Living in hope obviously.

Dammit more money! Wonder if Hannants will have them in time for Duxford. They had loads of the IIC version at the last show.

Airfix yes! Bronco no. To expensive. This will be a 1/48 brother to my 172 P-40 (All about the Avatar)

Absolutely lovely. even down to the flag hoist India,Tango Kilo. This strikes a real note for me. My father served on HMS Grafton, which was also sunk during the Dunkirk evacuation whilst in company with HMS Wakeful. Both ships were lost as many know, my Dad was stbd bridge wing lookout, by a series of events he ended up back on the beach again for another day or so until he managed to get on a whaler from another ship and back to the UK, Nan thought he was dead as he had been reported missing. He gave her the fright of her life when he knocked on the door of their house in Ivy Bridge. I have a kit of HMS Hotspur in the stash, many a time I have contemplated building it up as Grafton. Sadly I have no one to pass it on to now as both my parents and sibling have all passed on now. Would be building for the build as they say.

1/72 Revell Messerschmitt P1099 B/I Heavy Armor
chuckb1 replied to Nigel Heath's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Coming along nicely. Bit of a fan of this aircraft. -
Had a great day Saturday, wanted to spend more time in the museum however I sort of shopped until I was skinters rather than dropped. The event did seem quieter than normal however some of my favourite aircraft were flying. Got some good static and in flight pictures which I am rather happy with. Especially of the Hawk 75, P-40 and Sally B.Looking forward to the Flying Legends in July.

Or Trumpeter to release a 1/32 Bristol Blenheim

I am a huge P-40 and Airfix fan. I will be buying one. Have an array of 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 P-40's in the stash. This will add to the built ones and the "To do when I retire" collection As for the debate on riveting. This kit will sell well regardless of naysayers and the Hyperscale mm club Its all very riveting reading about it though.

Twice just in case he gets up.

1/32 Rag wing Hawker Hurricane MK1 (A Piece of Cake)
chuckb1 replied to chuckb1's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Started cutting, oh my the plastic is horrible to work with. I will post up some pictures later, currently cutting out the wheel wells and chopping the wings off. There is no easy way to do this build by the look of it. Chew and bitten off springs to mind. -

Built one of these as a Pearl Harbour aircraft. The P-40 is one of my fave aircraft of all time. So much character.

Well here goes, new year at last, sad times for about the last 8 months my other half and I both lost our mums so gluing sticking and painting had to go on the back burner. We have had much to sort out, the big C is a terrible thing however we are now getting there. The father in law is a member of the RAFA. Since losing his wife he has been quite active again at his local branch to keep himself busy along with his obscene golf addiction. Back in September I donated my 1/32 Mk1 to them. The club secretary has asked me via old grumpy to do a series of builds with a BoB theme to go with the Spitfire for the Association. Grump's wish is my command So to business, I was looking for a suitable kit, the PCM one is rarer than hens teeth so I went down another route. I am going to use the the Revell 1/32 kit from the stash and GMA parts. The markings will this time possibly be fictitious, I did a 1/72 Hurricane last year based on Hornet Squadron, made famous by Derek Robinson's novel "A Piece of Cake" Using the Airfix rag wing Mk1. I intend to now do similar for the RAFA to sit beside the Supermarine Spitfire MK1. Decals and fake codes should be easy to recreate, I have taken up shares in green stuff, plasticard and Milliput in readiness of marrying all the parts together. Well this will be a long build I think, at least there is no time scale on this one. Just ordered Montex Masks for the roundels and codes. Deep breath! here we go, Now where is my razor saw? I need to perform major surgery on some wings
