  1. Ok I am a complete Hurriophile of the first degree, mine is in the holding pattern as I am now on my chrissy prezzie of a 1/32 Curtiss P40 however I think this is the best rendition so far. (haters brace yourselves) and better than the AZ version I built early this year. That had a few problems, probably me though. As for the wing judiciously filed the trailing edge and to me it does not appear flat. Drawings wise I had to go retro as the ones I had date back to the 80's from Scale models however it all matched up. I had the Battle of Britain Scale Models Magazine as I dont have anything newer. Wheels wise I will live with it. I am using the two bladed prop as mines being built as a WIF from the book "A piece of cake" Mainstream manufacturer makes best kit of Mk1 to date. Makes my old Mk1 of Bob Stanford Tuck look positively stone age. IMHO!
  2. I looked on youtube that is correct. It could be an option or I did think of using those for a P40 Warhawk next year and do the build as one from the book "A Good Clean Fight"
  3. Rgr holding fire rabbit leader, may now have to purchase second kit!! They look excellent. i think one WIF and one real one. Decals plus another kit a bargain I reckon
  4. I'm thinking this is going to be a WIF. More than likely a metal wing versionfrom the great and all powerful "Fix" Then muhahahaha oh do I have a plan. Have to admit I am a bit of a Hurricaneophile after building the 1/24th Mk1 with my dad as a child. I remember decaling it after dad painted it. His ingenuity knew no bounds and installed the batteries in the fuselage with the access panel behind the pilots seat underneath. How he got it to clip in I will never know now, bit with a flip of the switch the prop began to whir !
  5. Didnt Ray Hanna do some of the flying sequences in the Mini Series? Thanks all, When I read the book I am sure that they upgraded to the armoured windscreens and seats, metal wings and rotol 3 blade prop shortly after one of the Squadron shot down. Yep its the new Mk1 Hurricane (Early)
  6. Put the post up in WW2 section see what I get. Probably not a whole lot at the moment, there seems to be a frenzy around Gladiator colours occurring I am staying well away from that one. Im into artistic licence for this project. Hurri fans please help me. As for the build on this thread love it, just hope mine turns out half as good.
  7. Simply stunning. A beautiful collection of Bomber Commands finest.
  8. Hi all. Ok Im picking brains here. Picked up the Hawker Hurricane MK1 last Saturday and I am going to start the build over Christmas. The kit decals just do not do it for me so without further ado I contemplated how to finish the Hurricane. now one scheme that has appealed is Hornet Squadron from Derek Robinsons "A Piece of Cake". I have read the book a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it even from the second read. I do have the DVD set from the mediocre TV mini series from years ago, however I would appreciate some input into squadron codes for the fictitious squadron. I have considered the Red, White and Blue striped tail with a Hornet (modified from the old Arifix Mk 1 Hurricane) decals, but I am open to suggestions. In the spares box I do have decals from the old Revell Hurricane Mk1, however they do look a bit faded so venerable modelers my question is this, What do you recommend squadron codes wise and aircraft serial numbers or shall i just "Wing" it and use a bucket full of artistic licence. I found the recent reprint art work below what do you all think?
  9. Im making a start over Christmas just trawling for better decals and ideas for the squadron codes. Im going to post up on here and see if I get any feedback.
  10. Feeling inspired with mine now. Do not like the scheme that came with the kit. I was thinking France 1940 and doing the fictitious aircraft from the Derek Robinson book a Piece of Cake. Something different. Found a set of decals from the old Revell kit which may be useable
  11. Oh stuff it forgot to press paste so sorry 1/10 can do better.
  12. Hi all Hope this may help if you are doing post war Vampires or Hunters cheezy story line but some good footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l4byhJVA8o Brendan
  13. Hi all, A very dear friend of mine from junior school Richard Mallory Allnutt has the enviable task of photographing warbirds past and present. I had to just post two of my favourite pictures of his work. Please search this mans work out some of the images are stunning. B
  14. Scaled up money turners. P51 Lightning, FW190, Gladiator, Typhoon. Non money turners but could be head turners. Beaufighter, Blenhiem, Ju88 1940 era to compliment the Spitfire Mk1/1a and 2 in a dog fight double. last but not least Me 163 Komet. Failing the above RN / RAF Phantom also Sea Venom
  15. I have a FROG Dornier Do17 and was thinking OOB with Battle of Britain markings. Would that count?
  16. So hot footed to Basingstoke on line voucher in hot stick mitt and purchased 2 x 1/72 Revell Ju88 new tool both versions 2 x Academy 109's 1 x Airfix Spitfire 1/1a / Mk 2 German WW2 Tank Commander `1/16 Thinners Cutting Mat Humbrol Enamels Some Tamiya Acrylics in useful shades Airfix Hood Type 21 Frigate (Nostalgia) after being boarding Troop on HMS Ambuscade and Arrow Now skinters
  17. Well been trawling the bay of e-vil for a Junkers Ju88 new tool to go in the stash and have found that someone is punting out what they must have bought in Modelzone at full RRP but with no postage charge incurred to the purchaser, whilst I admire entrepreneurial skills, This does kind of take the proverbial "Hug n' Kiss" a little bit. Coincidence maybe but all the kits on offer are strikingly familiar and would have been stocked recently. So my second question is how well stocked is the Oxford Street store as I have thirty pounds burning a hole in my pocket. Is it worth while taking a de tour after work to spend my money? Any other city type modelers been in recently and how well stocked are they considering its right in the middle of town? Really fancy the Ju88
  18. I thought that with the Rose turret as well. Really useful though if you were doing a diorama of an Aircraft under maintenance.I have to say thoroughly enjoyed watching that. Not a problem, glad you all enjoyed it. I also watched target for tonight. Stirring stuff!
  19. Hi all thought this would be useful for reference if you are currently building a Lancaster, or just require some additional resources for future Bomber Command orientated builds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujLVIlESNGE Regards Brendan
  20. Met him at NMSCO Northwood back in 1988. Charismatic man
  21. Well they got my money on Saturday, 1/48 Hawker fury, 1/32 Me 163 Komet and a 1/48 B17. The shop looked rather tragic. Have to say it was very busy though
  22. Tommy just to let you know Well had a practice with the Halfords paint on the wing of an old model. Sprayed then let it dry then 1500 wet and dry. Meguiars scratch remover to polish. One going over with Megs ultimate polish then 3 x wax came up ok. going to use it for the cowl. Closest I can get for a painted chrome finish/ Polished Aluminium. Rest of the model, I was thinking Humbrol Acrylic silver with a matt finish, and carefully mask the cowl. Hopefully no cross contamination. I think if I used spirit based paint it may pickle the polished silver? I need some help with rigging wires. Was thinking fishing wire drill a hole and super glue or stretched sprue then pull tight and glue. Advise please!
  23. Well you inspired me so much that I bought one today from Modelzone (RIP) for £6.49. Probably what I paid for it back in 83! I am going to try for a shiny cowel and casing on mine. I have some "Chrome wheel" spray paint also some foil if the paint doesnt work out. I havent built a bi plane in over 30 years should be interesting! As for the rude bloke, he needs to take a chill the Foxtrot Kilo out tablet" Its a model, an interpretation. I liked it especially the black and white pictures. Lifes too short!
