Revell 1-32 Hawker Hunter Mk6
chuckb1 replied to tommyinuk0's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Oh my reminds me of my father in laws images of the Hunter that he took in the 50's / 60's when he worked on them as a young man. One in particular strikes me as model or real. Fantastic work sir. -
Went to Hannants, mine was on the back shelf. Fat chewed with chap who served me on what Airfix may release next year (Vicious Buzz) hot from the gossip monger's . If its true then I will be a chimpanzees cousin. So purchased the Vb and a tin of Humbrol M90 for a very large and windy project that the wife has bought for me. Transparencies in box are intact and ok, just going up in the loft to dig out my old tool Vb kit for the decals. (You had to love Modelzone and their demise) £9.99 for the Dog Fight Double. Tonight after a sumtuous scran of sausage and mash with onion gravy im startin painting and a sticking! Just got to find some seat belts in the etch drawer. Dave hope the Phoon cockpits transparencies are ok now. B

Sad man moment its In stock and on my way to Hannants now I cracked and rang them! Theres keen for you B

Desert war Duke, is looking good. On my way home now, laborious meeting with local council and educational provision for their 14-16 Alternative Provison with us. (Dull and boring) now complete. Yes Heads of School do work during the holidays its not all feet up and deck chairs Im thinking a visit to Hannants on the way (tube detour time) see if they have it in stock could ring them but that would take the fun out of it. Retail therapy.

Ok question to the building masses, I need a break from my Vosper MTB, was thinking of building the Vb, and using the decals from my old Vb (Neville Duke) with this kit. Opinions please. I was going to wait for the Doubles set that includes the Bf109E for £24.99 which is stonking value for money. However that could be another project that involves a kit bash to a Vc and model Buzz Beurlings aircraft later on. so to Duke or not to Duke that is the question? Answers on a post card please

Im sure I read recently that Hornby were not having a good year, could it be a way to recoup profits. Also they know it will do well so why not try and make a killing on it. One kit they would not release as a loss leader in any way. I presume their business window on this kit will be small how many realistically will they sell. How many will never get built and end up in 2044 on 3D ebay? A fair few I think! Or maybe Im wrong

Im waiting for the third trader, To be fair it will probably come from the trader I usually use, He will be getting my money Support your local trader (Waives fist in the air)

1/48 - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb by Airfix - released
chuckb1 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
Excited much, going to get from MR Grumpy at my LMS on Saturday afternoon. The Airfix rep was in yesterday so I am hoping and crossing fingers. Friendly man in shop said he would put one of the Spitfires and a Blenhiem aside for me if they came in. Pinkies crossed. -
Airfix 1/48th Spitfire Vb now available from Airfix.com
chuckb1 replied to John's topic in Aircraft WWII
Good times, I will wait for LMS man to have one in and get it at the same time as the Blenheim Mk1. Did think of using my decals which I have from the old Vb kit making something special using the new kit. However I am in process with the Revell "Biggie" MkII so it will become temporary loft insulation for a while. I am waiting for the vernier caliper wielding sink mark moaners to wring their hands and moan sacrificing an old Airfix IX kit to the great god Plasticus if it does not come up to Spitmiester expectations. The build in AMW was excellent IMHO -
Tonto is purported to have said "I think paleface speak with forked tongue" in the first episode of "The Lone Ranger." Maybe this also applies to model suppliers. Why the rush for it? Most will probably end up as temporary loft insulation, or even worse not built and end up back on evilbay. I am willing to wait on this one until white beard and red suit man comes rocking around my Christmas tree. Will keep me happy over the festive season

I will be getting one, but not until Christmas / Birthday. At least I am not buying it. Down to Mrs B for this one.

Got my kit on Monday, give it a go over summer leave, purchased some Eduard brass for it and different decals. I will put it all together try and make some of the changes, make a hash of them then post up the resultant bodge fest on here in about 3 weeks for vernier caliper wielding scorn. Or it may quite well received ............ or a rivet counter will scream Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Have to disagree with Edgar, I have used Jadlam a number of times now with no issues, bit cheaper with free postage. The last one being the new Revell 1/32 Spitfire MkII. Purchased for £19.95 with free carriage. I cant fault or argue with that. Re the Vosper, well everyone can make a mistake I suppose. Everyone loves a bargain does not all ways come off then you win one or pick one up and its happy days! I was lucky with my Vosper, picked mine up from Modelzone a year ago for under £70.00 when the Reading store was closing down.

Best of times, reckon we were in when we had a proper RN with a decent sized fleet. Still in touch with some of my old oppos both RN and RM, changed so much apparently. Stretched paper thin the lads tell me. Thing is, I still work a lot with the old firm and have to promote the positive aspects of the job to Students and School children. A life on the ocean wave and all that! Up the Andrew and up Spirits //AD28// Splice the mainbrace!

Uncle's battledress with AG wings on it and medal ribbons flight sergeants stripes, also his Officers Cap, Tunic and Number one trousers after he was commissioned. Oh and his late war flying helmet with goggles. All our family memorobilia has been left to me as I was the only serving member of the clan. Dad had five brothers, all including him served in World War 2 in all service arms. Grandads stuff is in a trunk in the loft also He was a Bootneck RMA. (Blue Marine)

Its a similar scenario with HMS Plymouth the Type 12 Frigate, slowly rotting in a berth in the North of England. She should be preserved with the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. However it appears her potential scrap value outweighs the historic value of a survivor of the Falklands war. Same applies to HMS Whimbrel the last survivor of the Battle of the Atlantic. Now no better than scrap in Egypt. Egyptian government got greedy when there was a plan to bring her back to the UK.

Just read this, truly sad when a ship with that history is under funded and left to slowly fall into dis repair. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/parks/battleship-texas-dry-berth-project

I have used Jadlam before and the service was very good, I got a fair bit of the ancillaries kit wise for my MTB Diorama. Looking back I paid £68.99 from Modelzone when I got mine. Not a bad price for an MTB in a slightly scruffy box. If you paid £67 and free delivery I would be rather pleased. B

As above the first photo nearly fooled me. It was the lack of main roof, halyards and guard rails that gave it away. Lovely build, wish my water would look that good. Great build sir
