Airfix 1:48 De Havilland mosquito PR XVI
chuckb1 replied to John.R's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
As I said John, its the original that I built as a teenager back in 1980. Back then there was a big hoo haa about its release. I saved all my part time job money for 3 weeks to get it. Im starting mine next week. Ordered the upgrades from Evil bay for the interior and follow the scheme on the box lid. Going to be interesting me and invasion stripes do not get on! Regards B -

New Airfix 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Vb Neville Duke
chuckb1 replied to chuckb1's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks all, Im really pleased with it, now the question is do I finish the next one as Beurlings aircraft and use the 109 from the old Doubles set to make a more realistic pairing. Im scavenging through my decals and have the codes now. The 109 is quite dated but, with a little work I think its dooable. However the 1/48 Mossie is winking at me in the stash and SWMBO did buy it for me. So I think that will be first. Again thank you for all your comments, greatly appreciated. I have one wish though and that is I wish Edgar was still able to comment. I asked about removing the strengthening strips and a couple of other points. A gentleman and fount of Spitfire knowledge Cheers all B -

I am really pleased with it. So happy I am picking up the Doubles set Saturday and do another one, couple of issues on the interior fit and the under carraige legs, I set the angles using a home made jig of a small piece of card with the angles marked on it for port and stbd then gently taped the legs in the correct position and left to set over night. Thank you all for your comments. Will photograph in day light and with a camera over the weekend -
Academy P40M..... Ouch the decals

New Airfix 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Vb Neville Duke
chuckb1 replied to chuckb1's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thank you. Took some bottle to post this up. tried for a suitably weathered and battered aircraft. Suitably scruffy. -
Well time to get brave. First pictures of the Airfix Vb. Please be gentle on these old bones of mine. I will take better pictures at the weekend. I used the decals from the old Dog Fight Doubles purchased during the demise of Modelzone for £9.99 Had to use an Aries seat with the molded on belts, interior painted with Humbrol 78 then weathered. Eduard instrument panel and other controls. Used their rudder pedals as the carpet monster also digested one of those along with the side panel of the seat. Painted with Humbrol enamels and weathered with Citadel inks and Tamiya powders. Well here goes....... Well in the words of Porky Pig........... Thh Thhh That's All Folks. Thanks for looking B

New Airfix Spitfire Vb- Bf 109E Dogfight Double- Accurate?
chuckb1 replied to tonyot's topic in Aircraft WWII
This is true why didnt they do Buzz Beurlings Spitfire Vb EP706? I read he shot down 3 BF 109's in that aircraft (One crash landed in Sicily) from JG77 surely that would have been a suitable double to do? However that would have meant they would have to use the older 109 F/G Trop kit. Not an option really -
I had the same problem, So I carefully took it apart again and cleaned up the mating surfaces, used a dob of superglue and pin held in dowel to apply, slowly slowly crushy cockpit other wise. Alley Cat do a Vc wing conversion the big H have it for £11.00 I think http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AC48050C Not available yet though

HMS Plymouth off to the scrap yard
chuckb1 replied to Julien's topic in General Maritime modelling chat
If I had one wish it would be to force the company at Birkenhead to scrub her fwd cable locker out with a tooth brush and a bottle of pussers blue on their hands and knees in a force 9 with someone eating potmess in front of them. Sneaky devils -
Just finished mine as Neville Dukes aircraft, I am going to post up images in RFI tomorrow evening. Im watching this with interest got the Doubles kit on order for my Malta Beurling build. Most impressive on mating those wings together. Well done sir!

1/48 - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb by Airfix - released
chuckb1 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
Well its nearly fiinished. Caused a couple of problems along the way and the carpet monster devoured part of the seat so had to use an Aries one, that was a faff to fit -
Hi Ginger Bob, same image that I found. Also had one in a book of N Dukes aircraft parked up and from what I could see no strengthening strips. So off they will come tonight. Going to mask round them to avoid collateral damage and gently remove then polish the wing up again looks fairly easy to do. Cheers Brendan

1/48 - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb by Airfix - released
chuckb1 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
Im doing mine at the moment, using Neville Duke decal set though. After much deliberation the strengthening strips will be coming off. -
Edgar they are coming off, time for some sanding and polishing. I reached the same conclusion after trawling my resources and the net.
-
Thank you chaps, Im getting there bit by bit with the build, this really is a quandry, Edgar says probably yes, as he says wait for the image showing them missing, just located an image and it looks like they are missing, however the aircraft is referred to as a Vc on the web page not a Vb Quandry, to remove or not remove, that is the question? Brendan

Stupid question time. Neville Dukes Spitfire ER220 with or with out wing strengthening. my research has ground to a halt. As we know Duke flew two Vb aircraft, I am building ER220 so with or with out is the question? Im doing fuselage and cockpit at the moment so not in too much of a rush on this question. Cheers Brendan
