  1. Hey guys, this is jut a small a update to my build for the last P-51D group build. I did not get it done in time, so I will continue here. This is the initial post: Hasegawa P-51D "Mustang" 1/48 group build Time for modelling is unfortunately limited, sorry for not getting it managed to make some in press pictures. The build is complete and I had to think about the paint theme. I decided to go with a very attractive blue nose, called "Nancy-Lee". Source: www.americanairmuseum.com Once again Life Like Decals provides everything we need. the decals are tricky to use. Once applied, the look is good, but I wouldn´t recommend them. the paint job was done with Revell Aqua Color, Silver and "lufthansa blue". I have used Tamiya tape for masking the nose and I am pretty happy how she came out. I tried to give some panels a different shade of silver with Oil filtering. It is not easy to make some good pictures to show this effect. The wheels provided by Hasegawa look really great, first stage of painting. Please visit my Blog for more builds. Pete´s mancave Thanks for looking Pete
  2. Hi all, First off all, I wish you a happy new year 2017! I started painting the pony. I decided to go with "Salem Representative". Life Like Decals offer a very nice set for Mr. Hofers P-51. Actually I ´ve used a mix of Life Like, Printscale and Academy Decals. soure: American Airmuseum.com The modell exclusevly painted with Revell Aqua Color. I have sealed the decals with layer of clear matt paint. This will hopefully give a good base for the oil color wheathering. "Salem Representative" is a Printscale decal. I managed to get the wunderfull Life Like Decal destroyed 😥 I followed the Life Like instructions but if I had to do to the paint job again I would do a full set of D-Day markings. You can see it clearly if you follow the link under the first picture. The stencils are very nice and lendt from the Academy P-51B, printed by Cartograph. The two under wing bombs are also from the Academy Kit. Hofers missions were to protect the bombers and so I will not add them to the to my Cadillac. The decal doesn´t really fit to the kit part. The white flanks on the tires are Life Like Decals. I reworked the decal on the wheel well door with Revell Aqua colors Please have a look into my blog and find out more about me and my friends: https://petesmancave.blogspot.de/ Hopefully I can finish this build until 17! All the best Pete
  3. I´m sorry, I won´t get my models done..... Had to find a new job and now time is running out. I will finish them and you will see them in the RFI section..... Pete
  4. Very good work! Fingers crossed for your fight against "big C"!
  5. Next steps on my Mustangs is to dive the clear parts in "Future (Pledge?)". It does not have to be "Future". Important is that it is a sealing for wood floors (e.g., parquet). This treatment makes the parts more transparent, shiny and protected. It even allows processing with super glue. To dry, I put the parts in a plastic box, which protects them from dust and "clumsy movements" I let them in there for allmost 48 hours Meanwhile I prepared the right wing for installing the landing flap. I also re-engraved and riveted some lost details in front of the wheel well. The guns in the wing look really poor.... I have to rework this.... much better I used 0,9mm injection cannula I´ve bought in a pharmacy. Cutted with my Dremel in 5mm pieces and the ring around the gun barrels is a 0,5mm wire, bent to a ring. still a lot of work to do here..... filling, sanding polishing... Time to think about the painting....
  6. @ Blitz23 actually I ´m not sure what scheme I´ll do.... I´m thinking about Mr. Hofers P-51... I´m still building this "B"-Mustang. As you can see on the pictures I installed the wings and the elevators. I wanted to reduce the amount of putty and it might be a good way to intall the upper wings first. It was not possible to avoid all gaps at the wing root. I just put the lower wings in place and they won´t fit without clamps Wings in place and most of the gaps are filled and sanded. The glue and staple on the flap have destroyed some details and rivets. I had to re-engrave and make some new rivets. Still a lot of work to do......... All the best Pete
  7. Very sad news....... My condolences to your loss. Stay strong, take your time for your family. Mojo will come back... hopefully soon
  8. While looking on WWII pictures I saw most of the landing flaps down. Mostly than the Mustang was parked a while. I didn´t think much about and used the saw. But it´s not a piece of cake I thought.... I used the Trumpeter engraving tool to deepen the flaps until I could break them out. I glued the wings and the elevators. Tamiya tape helped to get the correct angle. This are the holes to close and bring the landing flaps into the right position. After a while of sanding, filling, cluing, start again with sanding, filling, cluing I achieved this. I think it looks ok.👍 I will use some flaps I found in the deep of my mancave.... First I planed to use the Hasegawa flaps but I realized my plan failed. Cheers Pete
  9. Thank you Keeto, just started to rework the flaps.... Hope I could tell some news soon. Pete
  10. Hi all, while searching a good way to fix the wheel well of my P-51D I found this kit in my stash and couldn´t resist to start a second P-51. Accurate Miniatures made a really nice P-51B. This kit is very well detailed and I will only add a Ture Details Seat cause of the seat belts. The exhaust are also weak and Ultracast will provide new. It´s great to have big stash ;-) The Sidewalls are much better detailed than other offerings. All parts needed for the cockpit and the spur wheel. The armor, protecting the pilot is missing in the kits cockpit, but I did not add it. True Details Seat on the Accurate Miniatures rack Added oilwashing and drybsushing. Old school but still with good result ;-) Once again self mixed Revell Aqua Colors used. They are really great to handle. Washing with brown Oils and drybrushing with middle grey Aqua Color Love the great True Detail Seat. Accurate Miniatures made a real nice instrument panell The fuselage is closed and the fit is really good. only some minor rework is needed to achieve a perfect result Please visit my Blog: Pete´s Mancave
  11. Hi all, I´m still working on my P-51D and it took some time to show you some progress. Continued painting all the details in the cockpit and I am happy how it came out. I used a brown oil wash and a light grey for drybrushing. The True Detail Cockpit is all the money worth. I tried to do the wooden floor and think it looks ok. The "milky" glasses are wet clear coat to reproduce the classes in the cockpit. Did not cut all the resin under the seat, black paint will hide it. All together, just before clossing the fuselage. You need to cut the Hasegawa parts to fit with the new pit. The fuselage fit is overall good, but needs some filler in some area. Filled, sanded, rescribbt and polished Close up of front fuselage. Next, reworking the wheel well area. I wanted to cover the gaps (blue) and glued a piece of grey plastic on the gap. All done, this looks much better than before and I´m pretty happy with my work. 13. Thank you guys. Feedback is always wellcome Here is the speeder in his new place, Robs cabin: Cheers Pete
  14. Hi Guys, it´s time for a new project. I will build the famous P-51D in 1/48 and will use the old Hasegawa kit. Also the Aires wheel bay and the True details cockpit. I will not use the Kit decals..... but have not yet decided which decals I will use.... Maybe a blue nose? The True Details sidewalls fit perfect and are a 100% better than the Kit parts First steps of painting the interior. As always I use Revell Aqua Color. The Interior green is a mix of light green, sand and brown. The very nice detailed True Detail Seat, gun sight and instrument panel It was a bad decision to add the Aires wheel well into this kit. A lot of work will be needed to fix this.... Cheers Pete
  15. Hi all, this is my latest build, the Bandai Snowspeeder in1/48. The kit was build out of the box. I´ve used Revell Aqua Color and Oil Colors for painting and weathering. The fit of this kit is really great and filler was not needed. Cheers Pete
  16. Germany and France will operate these together. Their base will be in France.... I think this deal should be a sighn for Airbus....
  17. I have it in my stash and I can say it is the old Hasegawa Kit. Go for it, it´s a nice one Pete
