Great detailing, it’s a pain sticking to the largely unique vent patterns and modifications of each u-boat, but it looks worth it already. I’ll need to read up on this boat.
ive this kit in the garage and will prob make a start in the summer following ur lead. Great tips too.

@almac Allan I have had a rake through the extensive Airfix Skyhawk inventory and have 4 extra of the snakeyes I could pop in the post if you like?

That is an impressive rescue and great shaping of the gun mount. I wish I could scratch stuff like this, really great modelling. Makes me want to hunt out my 1/72 Skyhawks from the garage...
This might be of interest to the A4-Q group. From Santiago Rivas’ book Wings of the Malvinas. I really recommend this book and his other title is Skyhawks of the South Atlantic, which I see on EB. There is a huge chapter on the A4-Qs and their Falklands deployment.
There were 8 Qs in total and 12 pilots assigned to them. On the 18th April they embarked and a Interceptor Listo en Cubierta, ILC was maintained with 2 A4-Qs armed at 5 minute readiness with AIM-9b sidewinders and another 4 Qs with snakeye 500lb Mk82s....the other 2 were held as a fuel tanker (3-A-302 with a sargent fletcher buddy pack) and the last to drop chaff.
Looks like you are making great progress with this one- 1

I think 2 were kept on alert on the deck as interceptors with pilots in the cockpit armed with sidewinder 9s? I think the task force was sighted and they couldn’t take off as they couldn’t get enough wind speed...I’ll check that in Wings of the Malvinas book, the same author has a Skyhawk only book which I’d like...

Thanks @zebra theres a wealth of information there. It details every Hasegawa kit you can make a Q out of!

Who can help. What do I need to do to make a C into a Q....?
Please...

Really great looking build, colours and weathering. I like the story too and will have a read up on that. U-33 similarly lies on the bottom near my home and generated my interest in u-boats. This definitely makes me want to look into WWI submarines now too.
Thanks for sharing.
Where do you get your base from?

Skyhawks wear any scheme well, but the ARA Qs are just so neat

A WIP within a WIP. I have made a start on the Hobby Boss Type VII A which will be an aid on a number of things for the main build. I will be making a few of these 1/350 Type VII As depicting U-33 throughout her career from Spanish Civil war through to her sinking. The model will be key in assisting with colour scheme and the all important rear deck torpedo tube.
33 went through a host of modifications and re-fits and paint jobs but this one will depict her in late September when Admiral Dönitz and Hitler greeted the boat into Wilhelmshaven after her successful 2nd patrol. On that occasion she wore the same as the surface fleet with Hellgrau 50 upper and Dunkelgrau 51 hull.
The Hobby Boss Kit is nicely detailed and the addition of a gold solid etch stand with type VII A U-Boat is nice.

Can I ask those in the know please? Is it just VOR rings and a different fin behind the cockpit that is the difference between a Q and a B/C please?

Good to see your kit has turned up and that you like it, are you going to go with the kit decals or would you like some Israeli ones?
Thanks Craig, so very kind of you, as always! I really would like the Israeli version but the blue wings USN version I think will look great too from the box so will probably give that go. I’d crack under the pressure if I made a rubbish attempt and ruined the decals...

@ foxbat Cheers Andy, yeah I think I and the wrong way about it. I should have done some checking first lol

Thanks Col, maybe it’s just me, but sometimes they are just over complicated. They are always worth it in the end...if you get to the end lol..

I hope so, with the fiddly construction of so many parts, hopefully the shape is correct. Getting it to mate up underside at the wing root and fuselage will be tricky too, then sanding all the glue off, probably losing all the nice rivets and detail. Should be plain sailing after that

Plenty of options for Vietnam based Skyhawks, think there's even one on the decal sheet in your kit. As for more obscure options there's Australia (again on your kits decal sheet but the national markings aren't the best), New Zealand (a few mods needed depending on which time frame of use you want to do), Israel ( do-able straight from the box as they used some ex-US Navy ones in 1973 as emergency war supplies), Indonesia (ex-Israeli ones but modified with 30mm canon and extended tail cone, available from Quickboost). Think that covers the E/F operators.
Oooh, I do have a nice paint set for Israeli camo scheme...

That’s so kind Craig, thank you! I think something Vietnamy or is there a whole host of obscure options?

Having bought these Hobby Boss kits for a guide on type VII As I noted the destruction manual was wrong. Type As only had a single rudder...an easy fix....
