  1. Just been looking at this again, totally incredible u-boat build, thread and result. Stunning. Thank you
  2. Thanks @Greg Law...there is an interesting Arctic white and grey scheme in the box options for U-292 and I was thinking of doing the other of the 4 options as U-319 as it was brought to Loch Eribol after surrender then sunk off Scotland’s south west cost. Which was all over Dunkelgrau 51. I’ve also just received an extensive decal sheet from Peddinghaus so the options have increased further with some research. I think I’ll pre shade panel lines then prime in white and see how it looks....
  3. Update: Decided to build as much as I can then paint. So screws rudders etc all in place. Deck guns, railings and anchor will go on last The winter garden with the array of AA guns is well detailed and busy. Think getting the railings on and painting the deck will be tricky. Lost a ladder to the carpet monster...
  4. Great progress, sounds like the company to avoid then, having just caught the Kriegsmarine bug and bought lots of kits I’ll stick AMP or Hannants. Might give the homemade flags a go.
  5. Update: U-boat weather here in Scotland replaced the warm sunshine early afternoon so returned to this one. What is a really nice kit so far I have built up the superstructure but not fixed to the deck for ease of painting. I’ve skipped building the guns so next up will be the railings. They are a touch thick so I might spend Sunday thinning these down or look for an aftermarket set...
  6. Just pre-ordered another 2 Revell type VII-C 1/144 U-Boats for the Das Boot anniversary gift set, making 4 of these winging their way here soon, a few decal sheets from Peddinghaus to make 3 other versions and a couple of Revell type VII-Cs in 1/350 and my first Hobby Boss Type IX-C in 1/350 with a few u-boat books.
  7. Nicely done, good work with the colours
  8. I got a shock with the 20p in shot for scale..that is mightily impressive, and unbelievable in this size, excellent
  9. I’d be in with a blitz built Malta related u-boat and if a longer theme either a 1/48 spitfire or Luftwaffe 109/190
  10. Impressive little kit the hobby boss VII-A in 1;350...I wish I’d used the photo etch for the deck rails instead of the plastic. You can see the difference with the winter garden which is the photo etch from the kit. The flag is Eduard metal otherwise it’s OOB.
  11. Thanks for looking in. I will highlight the flood vents and very slight rust on them and a couple of other areas. As she was only at sea for a week when she was lost, albeit in a harsh winter, she’d still have had a relatively dark deck and slight weathering. For the 1/125 scale...I’ll base on how this little one turns out
  12. I can hear general Melchett saying this.... I want a shot at building this one.
  13. Here is the basic scheme of U-33 as she would have had for her last patrol. Top side is hellgrau 50 (Silbergrau) with Dunkelgrau 51 the slightly darker on the bottom. The last photo taken shows the topside grey of U-33 as not shining as if white so rules out Hellgrau 50 version 1. Dunkelgrau is the obvious choice for the hull.
  14. My first foray into bigger scale Skyhawks and for a change it’s not a Falklands one... Raised wing detail but recessed panel lines on fuselage....
  15. Looking great already, maps are a great touch....you should launch a range of aftermarket stuff. Lovely work
  16. I’m just setting up the summer modelling bench and shall be along shortly....SWMBO “suggested” I move my operation from the study to the garage...she doesn’t know why I was so keen....more space dear.....
  17. I’ve had the magnifying glass out, not counting rivets but flood vents. The size, type, amount and positioning of vents, together with colour scheme and modifications tend be unique across U-boats and U-33 has loads of differences. Just about to paint my mini U-33 and noticed that when Hitler welcomed 33 back to Wilhelmshaven she still had the rear deck gun and old conning tower and winter garden. So this version of U-33 will need to be in her final 1940 scheme, rather than Sep 39. I think i will need to dig out her pictures clean from her 2 month winter re-fit to see what colours she had.
  18. Really no hanging about, great as always. I like the scheme it suits this
  19. Great rescue and coming along nicely. I saw the AV at the Naval Academy in Livorno and I’ll love to watch this one.
  20. Here is U-33 fresh in her tamiya extra finery grey primer. This will also be a paint experiment and I’ll be using the Lifecolor Kriegsmarine sets. While set 2 is specific to u-boats, set 1 carries the main colours for the surface fleet, which U-33 would have worn in Sept 39.
