  1. Lovely, particularly like the deck work
  2. Oh yes please. I have MiGs coming out my ears that I need to get built
  3. Put me on the roster please, what’s not to get excited about all the aces in the same places. I have a few Luftwaffe and RAF WWII options
  4. Definitely the best Harrier I have seen. Great build, I think a Harrier is so hard to get the paint job to look right. Nailed it.
  5. Lovely work. I want to have a go at one of these. I recently discovered Ensign Ewart of the Scot’s Greys who took the eagle at Waterloo was born a mile from here and lived in my town. The local museum textile team made 3 accurate replicas of the flag which is a work of art and thinking of starting a campaign for a statue….my 45mm model will need to do. Thanks for posting, it is lovely
  6. Oh yes please. Coastguard HH60 or 65 perhaps a carrier jet too
  7. I need motivation to get back to the bench. 190 is my favourite and plenty in the stash. Please add me Col
  8. I’m fairly certain the gun was secured at a right angle with a cable on the barrel lashed to the deck. However U-33 a type VII-a that’s I’m working on at the moment was sunk near where I live and divers say the gun on the wreck at the rear of the conning tower is pointing straight up…
  9. The u-boats, mainly all VII A,B,Cs C/41 that I have researched had wooden decks. I think u-boats used teak and it was coated in a very dark grey anti-fouling paint. This paint would fade during patrols and the wood begin to show through. I’m not sure about other u-boats. I really need to get my books out. The metal parts of the decks like hatches etc would rust, but not the deck. https://amp.rokket.biz/lib_uboats.shtml This whole collection of stuff is a great u-boat modelling resource. Teerfirnis i think was what the coating was called and differed on surface ships.
  10. Great work on this one. Enjoying the build and thread. Making me want to get back to my 4 U-boat builds. From my research, red is the correct colour( I used to paint orange too) the life preservers were only put on the conning tower when leaving and entering port, they were removed at sea. I can’t remember where I read this though to direct you. May have been the AMP pages. I will have a check...
  11. Just catching up with this. Great thread and work so far!
  12. Fabulous, nice and salty, crusted, weather beaten. Well done!
  13. After failing to get this one off the ground, Col has allowed me in with this for another effort. Like the COVID jab, this will need 2 shots...cockpit walls have RLM 66. We go again
  14. Perfect, thanks Col. Joining the formation
  15. Hi Col @Col.. I am wondering if this is incomplete enough to enter? From my failed Africa GB attempt....
  16. With Mrs Valkyrie off out with her pals this evening, I thought I would get a good night at the bench. The Revell U-99 type VII-B is quite close to U-33. The 9 bow vents on U-33 were easy enough to depict using 9 of the 11 on the Revell kit. One filled in each side with the middle 9 opened up. The main vents we need to add quite a few.
  17. Build speed for U-33 in 1:125 has been slow while the work on the entire project has been furious in terms of research. Yesterday every shred of information from the U-boat archive in Germany arrived for U-33 and I have been looking at that ever since. While there are so many references and books documenting U-33, most of which I now own, the U-boat archive material should be definitive. The main thing I need to know is what features she had when she was sunk in February 1940 after a large refit the previous winter. One revelation from the U-boat archive is that during this re-fit she got new diesel engines. Some more interesting details or stories about 33 include she was carrying spies, peace envoys and even a team apparently searching for the Holy Grail! There is also a strong narrative that actually her mission was to sink the Hood or that U-33 was part of a plan to trap a U-boat lured by the presence of the Queen Mary. It’s a striking story! Tomorrow however I think we are ready to begin on drilling the flood vent pattern that U-33 wore.
  18. Well after 3 days of no Skyhawk take off she finally went this morning, and I missed it. My pal sent me his pics and to add insult to injury says they put on a wee engine test right next to the gathered group huddled against the snow wind
  19. Had a couple of days off so managing a bit of bench time. Starting the weathering with rust. Got Ammo oil brush and the Lifecolor rust set so hopefully a real Arctic weathered flaking faded effect can be achieved And now at that point...do I stop or continue weathering or probably do too much....
  20. Hercs were fabulous, showing their age, never seen a green one before, in and out good show. A-4 is staying over after all that...some technical issue. Back tomorrow to see it off
  21. My mate just sent a video of it landing, lovely 2 tone grey camouflage scheme and really good noise. I’m definitely going to see it and SWMBO is coming with me lol
  22. Possibly..was my big mate who photographs aircraft text me. He did say they were going to Germany after this stop over at 1;40 I need to get some binoculars on the way...
  23. Still not started as yet but there is an A4 Skyhawk on its way to Prestwick due in 10mins and back out at 1;40...I might head down for inspiration 2 seater
