I hope they don't forget to continue releasing - or reboxing - the Hasegawa 1/72 F-111 family. 🙂

I was looking forward to that, but never managed to find one for a decent price. I think that ship has long sailed, sadly.

That is a shocker! Sounds the local authority are being a bit "jobsworthy".!

Also, it sounds like there are some bodies in the higher echelons of the authority who are very much anti  aviation  and green brigade warriors!

Can you imagine if the same happened to places like Hendon, Duxford or other collections

    Speculation. And politics.

  3. I had put an AMT 1/72 F-111F on my eBay watch list and the seller sent me an offer which I took up. Although I would obviously prefer the Hasegawa/Hobby 2000 kit, that’s over twice what I paid, *if* you can still find one, and that’s just too damn expensive. Beggars can’t be choosers, and all that. It’ll have to do.

  4. Cheese and beans on toast. As humble a food as it is, something magical happens when cheese meets bean. I like to add some smoked paprika and freshly ground black pepper to the beans, as it takes it to a whole ‘nuther level.

It’s a simple pleasure that I can’t have very often, (because reasons) but it never fails to brighten my day.

  5. That Bel Canto tune is the only one of theirs I like. Being a massive Cocteaus fan, I'm always told that if I like them, I'll love "insert name of band here", but I invariably don't. I'm a really fussy beggar. That said, I do like The Glassmaker a lot. She sounds so much like Tiny Dynamine/Echoes In A Shallow Bay-era Liz, I'd probably have believed you if you told me it was her!

It's been a long ol' while since I last heard Birthday. The backing music sounds much more like '90s era Cocteau Twins than I remembered, something I think I dismissed out of hand at the time. Top tune, though. I think that Bjork is a bona fide genius. Much of what she does isn't to my taste, but I have massive respect for her as an artist. She's tiny though- I walked past her backstage at a festival, and she was shorter than Mrs Lasermonkey, who's only 5'3".

  6. KEXP is a consistently good radio channel. I’ve been aware of it for quite some time, as a friend of mine was in a fairly well-known Seattle band (no, not that one!) and he turned me onto it. So many great sessions and you get the feeling they really do live for the music at the station.

  7. A new RHS armrest for my IKEA Torkel office chair, as I managed to break the one on mine. I tend to lean back in a particularly relaxed (or slovenly, according to Mrs Lasermonkey) style and the armrests, which couple the seat back to the seat base, aren’t really up to the task. I’ve already broken and replaced the LHS armrest, so it was only a matter of time. I think I will make some plywood replacements once I have moved.

You would be wrong. Hornby trains is by far the biggest component of Hornby Group’s overall sales.

Hornby PLC is currently profitable too

I’m pretty sure I had read that the Hornby model railway business (as opposed to the overall business) was losing money, despite having the largest sales, whereas Airfix was actually turning a profit. That may have changed recently.

Whatever the financial situation, my feeling on how Airfix is viewed by the Hornby management hasn’t changed. Smaller companies seem to do far better with fewer resources.

  9. I kinda like the P-39 but it doesn’t really fit into my main area of interest (aircraft based in East Anglia) apart from the Airacobra Mk I of No. 601 Sqn., which I believe was a P-400.

So, pleased for you guys that wanted one, but I won’t be buying unless one comes up cheap, which I very much doubt. For those who are disappointed with the lack of Soviet markings, I think there is little appetite for things with red stars in the former Warsaw Pact countries (and especially Poland)  right now, and I doubt that will change any time soon.
