  1. Didn't I have big modelling plans for 2019?..... Yes I did, that's why I said it πŸ˜… . I'd cranked out a reasonably fast 3 models in the first quarter and I was rattling along with my fourth when unfortunately my dad died unexpectedly from a heart attack whilst on an unrelated appointment in the Ear Nose and Throat department at the local hospital. That was pretty rough on the staff TBH as they don't expect their patients to die on them. That did knock the stuffing out of my plans a bit and I lost all interest. I'm sure I'll be back on it but I'm dealing with a full size 'model kit' at the moment fixing a motorbike for summer. 😎 Here are the three I did finish before everything went a bit wobbly. πŸ˜€ All 1/72nd scale. 🧐 Xtrakit Vampire FB5, Fujimi Phantom FGR.2 and the Revell Hawker Hunter FGA.9 VampireFB5_03 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr VampireFB5_02 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr VampireFB5_01 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_02 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_06 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_05 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Hunter_01 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Hunter_03 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Hunter_07 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr
  2. I love what you've done with these. Not just the painting skill, but your choice of colours really appeals.
  3. Cheers Ran. I have this book, Vultures over Israel by Shlomo Aloni, and it's very interesting, but very B&W. When I finally get my time machine running, I'm going back to the 50's with a thousand rolls of colour film and lab to hand to the IAF so they can help us all in the future with a few more colour images of their aircraft and escapades. 😎
  4. 😎 I agree that as delivered they would be as you say. I'm positing the possibility from some of the darker tones I've seen on a few photos of Israeli airframes displaying a side(ish) profile, that after they had been through the IDF paintshop a few times, the colour could very well have changed. I was looking at one image of post Six Day War camo IDF Vautour in flight. Angled shot, from the left and just behind in flight. The airframe well lit by the sun along its whole length. If the inside of the air brake was yellow on this particular airframe, the tone (even on a B&W image) should be closer to the IAF sand colour, but instead, it reflects light much similar to the tan colour. What that colour is, I can't say, but it doesn't look like yellow. Images of the newly delivered aircraft in all metal, reflect light and show a tone that I would expect from a yellow in a B&W image. So, again no arguments there. Sadly, all images I've seen of IAF museum airframes appear to be parked with the air brakes closed, so boo to that. πŸ˜„ It's a shame somebody doesn't know someone who may have worked on the aircraft who maybe, just might remember any changes like that during the Vautour's service in the IAF. πŸ˜‰ But it doesn't matter really in the end, I just was hoping it might shed some light on it for my future build, which will be in the grey-blue/brown pre-67 scheme. Presuming I open them up and don't just stick a spare pilot figure in it and pretend the engines are running. 🀣 On with the build and saving me the effort of a WIP (thank you again), without me derailing this one too much! (I only did it coz I'm super interested)
  5. Well blow me down.. I was just thinking about my next build and whether to do my first WIP, and top of the list was the Special Hobby (essentially the Azur kit) IDF Vautour IIA that I have.πŸ€” You've just gone and saved me a job of a) choosing my next build, and b) whether to do a WIP of a Vautour in 1/72nd. Being a lazy person at heart, all I can say is Cheers! So now I can sit back and watch you do your build. Thank you. The air brakes ARE mighty irritating and now I see everyone else doing them I suppose I'll have to do them on mine as well. Thank you for the images of yours @VG 33 I've also poured over a fair few IDF Vautour pictures, sadly most of them B&W. Looking at the air brake interior, initial deliveries of the Vautour in bare metal appear to have a light tone to the inside of the fuselage, but once they get painted in the two tone blue/brown upper the tone on the inside of the fuselage appears to be much darker, more like the way the blue appears in the B&W images(but not the same). It could be the way the light falls on it, or it could be they were painted a darker colour once they'd received their first turn through the IDF paintshop. Of course to make things more confusing, the odd picture in flight that I see with the brakes open on a camouflaged aircraft, the backside of the actual extended air brake appears lighter in tone. 😡 So who knows what the real colour should be. Maybe need to ask someone who worked on them to see if they remember. πŸ˜€ Anyway. Thanks again @Ran and good luck.
  6. I admire your dedication (beats my grab a few pics from the internet and read a potted history πŸ˜„). The work certainly shows in the finished model. That's an awesomely presented Corsair. More please.
  7. Gorgeous.. In an ugly sort of way. 😎 Nicely done A10 there, with an interesting selection of stores (as any A10 should have ) . Great finish and attention to detail. If I was to complain, it would be about the non-existent Britmodeller widget to allow for every posting of an A10 to open with a loud 'BRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTT' noise every time you looked at it. πŸ˜‰
  8. Flooping heck! 😱 (an exclamation of astonishment and amazement) I'd heard this kit had some interesting fit quirks, and your liberal use of filler indicates a certain amount of struggle caused by the engineering and age of this kit, but by gum you've done a fantastic job with it! Looks like a beast and probably takes up more room than I have office space to work in. You've done a grand job with that and definitely worth the extra effort putting the kit right.
  9. Yes.. I spotted your edit.. Laughed when you said you were taking pics of your cats... Then got distracted myself by sorting pension paperwork out. Exciting eh? πŸ˜‘ No sweat. No need to apologise. Everything is good. 😎
  10. What a superb finish that is, and you have the masking patience of a host of angels. 😱 I will admit, that after fighting the 1/72 Trumpeter BAC Lightning F6 into some sort of shape I always get a sympathetic twitch when I see others posting Trumpeter aircraft builds. So double well done, and thank you for sharing.
  11. Yes indeed. A quick check of the box shows that Revell have it right and I can't even remember what I was doing a few days ago 😡 and shall correct accordingly. 🀣 And thank you.
  12. Have a Saturday morning post 'bump' for this nice, tiny build you have shared with us. 😎 I always have respect for anyone who can do a good brush build (as after all these years I'm only just getting the hang of it myself and still prefer spraying as much as possible). Even more respect when the whole model is smaller than some brushes. πŸ€”πŸ˜‰
  13. From the ribbed metal, down to the finish on the ski undercarriage... An absolutely top job with an astounding level of attention to detail.
  14. I like 'boring old silver'.. I seem to have a rather large collection of those myself. πŸ˜‰ Nicely done and well presented. Thank you for sharing with us.
  15. What an amazing piece of work that is! And that must be quite a beast in 1/35th and take up a lot of real estate.... I can understand the need to fold the rotors.
  16. Good day all. And thank you everyone for the positive response to my latest build. Cheers. 😎 The seat is Quickboost (by Aires) Hawker Hunter ejection seat. Drops straight in with no adjustments to the cockpit bath. The wheels are the Hawker Hunter weighted wheels by Armory. These aren't quite the same size as the supplied wheels and a little bit of surgery is needed to fit. Thinning out the front undercarriage leg was necessary when sandwiching the wheel between the two halves, and a slight adjustment on the main legs so the wheels didn't foul anything. Nothing too serious. Hey Mike. I'm sure you will, and after all, like me, you're starting with a massive advantage........ It's a Hawker Hunter. According to the box, that there be a No. 9 *edit.. no I mean no.8 sqn coz I have a brain of cheese sqn.
  17. Hello again. So.. This Hunter thing. It's Revell. It's a nice kit and looks quite good, but maybe we shouldn't look at the shape too closely just in case. I'm glad it's better than the Matchbox and Frog Hunters I did when 'I was a wee lad' which was the last time I built one of these. I expect I didn't get some of the lumps and bumps quite right for this mostly OOB representation of a No.8 sqn RAF Hunter based in Khormaksar, Aden 1963. The instructions show optional parts so it's up to us to do the extra research to see which fits what. I didn't go the extra mile because I wanted to crack on and get it done as fast as possible (within reason), and while I had the time. 😎 I threw a resin seat and wheels on there for a bit of extra interest, replaced the plastic blob of a fuel vent on the rear of the fuselage with a short piece of aluminium tubing (diameter of which I have forgotten), and drilled out the pipes for the spent cases. There's also a couple of strips of stretched sprue for the antennae under the fuselage. Finished with some panel line wash, post shaded and weathered with filters and some oils. This is likely to be my last finished build for a little while as I'm actually having to get on with RealLifeTM and go do some paid work after an enforced break. I hope you find this one pleasing and thank you for looking. 18. Oh I do like this. Small and perfectly formed, with a nicely applied scheme. I really should get one of these myself. Thank you for sharing.
  19. Pretty yellow plane is pretty. 😎 That's really nice. Out of interest, what yellow was that and what colour primer did you spray it over? Thank you.
  20. Do you have a Jaguar with that dirty desert pink temporary distemper on it yet? (Not that I'm going to be that guy who points out more missing Jags. 😁 ) Nicely done though.
  21. Nicely done. I can't comment with any knowledge about the scheme but it does look fantastic. 😎 Your practice with the exhaust staining looks good to me... and I've tried to match the colour stains myself and know how tricky it can be. 😁 Thank you for sharing.
  22. That looks fantastic! Nice finish and as said before, the line work is great. It's totally out of my usual build area, but you make me want to try.... I need to win big on the premium bonds just so I have the time I think. πŸ€” πŸ˜€
  23. Welcome back Houston! Although why I say that when I've probably been away longer I don't know. πŸ€” πŸ˜€ And thank you.. If I'd known this was your favourite aircraft, I would have built the FG.1 I had and not monkeyed around with the Vampire I posted. 🀣
