I'm all for constructive criticism of the kits -- how else would we know if they're accurate? -- but this strikes me as venturing into needless rudeness. It's a painting, it's not the model.

thanks for the comment...well he just might have some reasons for what he wrotte...i used exact data from a photograph from the same squadron and  it can be seen bellow...!!! Have a nice day!!!

  3. What a stir....so many mistakes..i quess i'll have to do another work and leave box art to others!!! Anyway...critics is one thing...nasty critics is another!!! I post here the image i used as a lead to my work and hopefully will make nastier the masters of critisicm!!!

Alright alright alright, I guess the artist used the Hobbyboss kit as a reference, hence the mistakes.

I an not putting the blame on him for an inaccurate rendition.

Love the sky and the clouds though.

I am sure his other works are just fine.

thank you for the kind comments!!! Have a nice day!!!

  4. Hello there!!!

I am responsible of this box art image and i want to state that i made my work based in a lot of information..and as Flankerman correclty puts it, operational Tu-128UT's had square tipped fins...and only the prototype used with raked fin...of course with soviet airplanes none can be sure for 100%..but i am sure that blue 49 had a square tip finn...!!! Now...why Trumpeter guys change this to raked finn..i do not know!! They were pleased when i finished the image as it is used in the box...SQUARE TIP IS THE CORRECT FIN..

Dear Homebee thank you for the posting of the better image..i wanted to do it myself but i did not know how...I have also painted the box art of another version of the Yak-28...but for obvious reasons i cannot reveale it... for this image a great help was the excellent model built presented here by Jurek Greinert!!

    Have a nice day!!!

Thanks Kostas, appreciate that. Apparently, in 1971, four standard Tu-128s, with the original cut-off fin tips were set aside for conversion into UT trainers and these all successfully passed their air test. During the same year ten production UT trainers came off the production line fitted with the new fin-tip design housing the R-846 radio), these were the final Fiddlers built. I can find photos of two of the original aircraft, one the unnumbered first prototype and the other 15 Blue,  but nothing on the other two.

    Cheers:cheers:

    Hello there!!!

Thanks for the information!! Those Russian airplanes, especially in the 50's, 60's and 70's are so hard to locate information!! Even the camouflage patterns, are so different form one airplane to the other, even if they belonged in the same Base and in the same squadron!!

    Have a nice day!!!

Good point, that was something I noticed on the box art!

Dear General, i also painted the box art of the Tu-128M too...there were Tu-128M's fitted with the old type fin, but also there were airframes with the late type fin..the one machine i painted in the box art, was using the old type, but i have read somewhere that a lot of Tu-128's were fitted with the late type when they were having  overhaul service!!!...🙂

Lovely artwork, captures the sleek lines of the aircraft very well...(hopefully, they'll add the 'u' in Tu before release). Great to see the 'Pelican' in mainstream plastic, something I never thought we'd see. The nose section is a complex shape, Amodel did a good job, so here's hoping that Trumpy got it right too.

dear General Melchett...i am responsible with this artwork too...and thank you for the nice comments!! Have a nice day!!!

67 FAW.1s (in the XJ & XN serial range) were converted to FAW.2s, as opposed to only 29 new build FAW.2s.

Many of the converted FAW.1s did get the bulged frangible observers canopy and did see carrier squadron service as Mk2s.

The kit is a weird one.

The plastic actually looks good to me, and obviously pretty well researched.  It looks like the decals and the painting guide was done by a company without any Sea Vixen knowledge or the ability to research what so ever though!

I really don't get how resources are cited as being restrictive, they only have to look here on Britmodeller!

It looks to me that an FAW.1 could be relatively easy to produce from this kit, notice the booms don't inpeede on the wing design, unlike on the Airfix kit.

I was prepared top buy one or two of these, but not at the prices shown.

I respect your views and your will...fair enough!! The XN647 airframe never used a ''glass'' radar operator hatch and never operated form Carriers plus almost all the Sea Vixens in 766th squadron at the particular time!!

Nothing wrong with your box art painting. It's the colour and marking guide that's bolloxed up with the wrong serial number and the wrong colour for the underside and the large serial number decals. They just don't care!

I see your point!! Thanks anyway!! I always try the best possible search any time i create a box art cos i know it aims for people who most of them are very well educated in their aspects!! Unfortunatelly some times at Trumpeter models create Model kits with a rush and surely mistakes are present!!! Have a nice day!!

  12. Ho all!! I just might be able to help a little here...the Sea Vixen FAW 2 s/n XN647 i painted as a box art..is one of a few FAW 1 airframes converted to Faw 2 standards!! These were used with 766 squadron at Naval Air Fighter School, Yeovilton for training service!! They never operated from carriers according to a lot of information!! The only prominant difference these aircraf had form the normal FAW 2's were the radio operators canopy...it had remained the solid type as it was used in their pastlife of FAW 1 configuration!! I infomed Trumpeter Models about all these...i think they only use the glass canopy in the kit..that's what they told me anyway...Now...as for the rest 2 options given in the Markings, i have no info cos i was not aware of them.. and i did not need them anyway cos i only had to paint the XN 647 Vixen...

Nice artwork, although I would have gone with a VMA-131 aircraft (for obvious reasons). I can't say that I am interested in the kit however; the lack of separate slats makes it a non-starter, especially when I have a quantity of Hasegawa kits in the stash. It's stunning that Hobby Boss neglected this feature.

thank you very much for the kind comments!! I understand your point... some times although they create great models...are forgeting some very prominent details....i also, as a collaborator, i had a desire, i asked them so many times for a new tooling Avro Lancaster in 48th scale...but the answer was a fish's silence!!!! Have a nice weekend!!!

Same here. Only exception will be if they release OA-4M.  And that again in combining HASE wings (if possible and if in the mood).

But impressive artwork anyway dear planeart

Thank you very much DIO...as i mentioned in past...i am only responsible for the box art...the choice of what model and wich version of the model, relies on Hobby Boss people...Have a nice weekend!!!
