One question,..riveting the airframe? how is this done in 1/48 scale?
-
Maybe its just me, i bought this kit off ebay, along with an F-84 Thundersteak, both Revell, both have raised panel lines, although i have a monogram Su-25 kit that looks ok, so is there a hierarchy to kit manufacturers? Im guessing Hasegawa must be at the top or pretty near it judging by the price.

Here is my second effort, the learning curve continues! This is Revells F-105G Thud wild weasel variant, of the 17th Wild Weasel Sqn of the 388 TFW based in Korat, Thialand during the Vietnam war, the aircraft survived and is currently being restored at Jefferson County Airport, Broomfield, colorado. I attempted to rescribe the panel lines with mixed results, went a bit OTT with the silver paint to represent paint chipping and wear. The vulture and the decal 'patience' a testament to the hazerdous mission these aircraft undertook. I used both Eduard Resin Cockpit with PE details, and Eduard external PE detailing sets, although the resin cockpit was not designed for the Revell kit and was problematic, lesson learned! And a picture of the actual aircraft: I wont be buying any more Revell kits, as this one wasn't great, raised panel lines, poor fitting in parts, and the decals silvered quite badly, even with Klear, in fact i almost binned it on a couple of occasions.

Its made by czech masters, not too bad, i noticed while fitting the canopy at the end that the model has the canopy supported on the port side, whereas the correct AM cockpit has it supported centrally behind the pilots seat, The price was exactly the reason i bought it, the decals are laughable, seem to be in 1/32 scale so i did mine in PAF colours.

Ha! was just looking at this kit on trumpeters website, came straight from there to here and you've built one already! Superb as ever Arkady, a joy to see your work, expensive kit though, £75 on Hannants!!

love it! im just starting my Revell F-105G, although the horrible raised panel lines are proving difficult to re-scribe! -
Fantastic! how did you do the paint chipping effect on the panels and the seat highlights?

Beautiful!! i honestly don't know how you can build such a fine example at this scale, i struggle at 1/48!! nice job!

Thanks guys, much appreciated, loving getting back into this hobby again after so many years, although there are some bad habits im going to have to curb, the worst of which is drinking while moddeling, it does not help when you need a steady hand!! -
Im definatly stealing that tip, interesting, never thought of black as a basecoat.

The exhaust paint work is fantastic! How did you do it?

This is my first kit since i joined this forum, the wealth of information and examples from other moddellers on here has improved my abilities no end, but its a steep curve, and i have far to go, while buying some supplies in my local modelzone, this kit was behind the counter and heavily discounted ( well according to them ) so i bought it, after doing some searching i decided to attempt an example from the 1965 Indian - Pakistan war, where these aircraft were first used by the PAF, they were so effective against IAF airfields that they surpressed indian air power markedly, i based my livery on a painting by Group Captain Hussaini of one particular aircraft - 33891, crewed by Flt Lt Altaf Shaikh ( pilot ) and Flt Lt Bashir Chaudhry ( navigator ). On the 14th Sept 1965, at 23:00 While on its 13th mission of the war was it shot down over Adampur airfield in India, Both crew ejected and landed in marshland beside the airbase, they managed to evade immediate capture but were caught the next morning by Indian police, and repatriated in 1966, nice to have a back story! The main problem was the accuracy of paint schemes and squadron livery, there are only a few pictures available ( that i could find ) and the schemes vary quite a bit, so i had to rely on the painting and other pics that could back that up, so there may be innacuracies! I bought a czech masters cockpit set to go with it, which needed quite a bit of butchering to fit! I bought some P.A.F. decals from Hannants, but since they were for an F104G the roundels for the wings were too small, so i tried to mask and spray them on, but the masking tape let the paint creep under so i had to finish by hand, oh well you live and learn.. I also had to freehand the serial number on the tail, would have helped if i could have found a mask to use instead, but i couldnt find anything online?

Also, sprayed Johnson's Klear/Pledge Is this the old Klear or the new pledge version? ive found the pledge next to useless.

You can print your own decals?????!!!!

Cracking cockpit Adam, looks really worn & weathered, i have some old artists oils in my cupboard, i might dig them out and give it a try
-
Hmm, lots to consider here, ive never thought of an oil based wash over acrylic, but then when i did the dark wash it did run with the base coat ( area behind ejection seat is obvious on the pic ), so i definatley need to seal before applying or choose a different medium. I'll look into purpose washes, not something ive seen in my local modelzone, one problem maybe the brushes im using, i dont think they're good enough, so i'l hunt around, but previous brush painting results in a lumpy finish ( see previous SU-15 seat ) This is the best detail i could manage on my czech master cockpit, nearly went crosseyed doing this! Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated!

Need some advice on washes for high detail areas, im using acrylics and airbrush for applying main colours, but used an anthracite wash to add depth to the cockpit, however even applied carefully, brushing is still not fine enough, ditto with highlighting, ive used a brush and dried it off as much as possible but its still too rough, should i be airbrushing these washes? Also for very fine detail on dials / gauges etc, its difficult to apply the paint without splurging an unwanted blob or leaving no impression at all, ive tried using an old airbrush needle but there is no control over flow, any tips / tools that can be used to achieve this? Any help would be V appreciated!

surely that paint deliberate? I can't believe the danish air force would allow they're aircraft to weather that badly?
