  1. Paints were Tamiya Acrylics, weapons were Aires or Eduard add ons, sorry cant remember which, quite right Panoz, they fled in 91, and buried them in 2003, getting my gulf wars mixed up doesn't seem right to have a frogfoot with nothing under the wings, even those 2 empty pylons niggled, but i had none spare! Thanks for the comments guys!
  2. "In addition to the Mi-24 Hind mentioned above, there was also a MiG-29. (The less said about it the better. )." Pity! this kit was quite detailed and fairly accurate ( albeit based on prototype ) so maybe the other iron curtains are not worth hunting down?
  3. Hello Peeps, Had this old kit sitting on the shelf bought of Ebay, monograms 'Iron Curtain' series Su-25 Frogfoot, i corrected some obvious mistakes, scratch building the intake at the base of the tail, Eduards exterior detail set corrected the rest, also used Aires Cockpit, Eduard pylons, and armed with Eduard S-24L guided rockets, UB-32 rocket pods & a pair of Aphids. I also bought Authentic Decals Frogfoots in foreign service, and decided on an Iranian SU-25K of The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, pictured below, the decals were almost impossible to use use they disintegrated on touch, I wasn't sure if these aircraft were purchased from Russia, or were those impounded by Iran when flown from Iraq prior to 2003 Gulf war. Wonder if it was one of these that took a potshot at the US drone last year? Some errors remain, pics seem to show the 3 prong antenna on the nose and rear as opposed to the ones fitted. Anyway here it is, thoughts / comments welcome! P.S. I cant seem to find any other 'Iron Curtain' series kits? Do they exist?
  4. Beautiful! been watching one of these on ebay, didnt know there was a pe kit for it though? who makes it?
  5. Lovely! i have one of these gathering dust, must get stuck into it!
  6. Hello, Just finished an Airfix Lynx Mk88a, decorated in "Marinefliegergeschwader 3 Graf Zeppelin" ( Lebanon 2006 ) in anti piracy load out, love the big fiddy calibre on the port side door, kit was augmented with Eduard interior & exterior PE kits, kit itself had some problems with poor fitting, lots of filling and sanding! But i enjoyed the process.
  7. That is a superb build, beautiful finish, best lightning ive seen to date!
  8. Not really, i think it was designed for another manufacturer, i had to butcher it to get it in!
  9. Hello Chaps, This is my attempt at an F84F Thunderstreak from the Turkish Air Force 182 Sqn (filo), In one of the few air to air engagements involving a thunderstreak a flight of four aircraft ( S/No's 185, 835, 878 & 790 ) from 182 filo engaged an iraqi Il28 beagle ( S/No 6540 ) in turkish airspace and shot it down, the kill according to some sources is credited to pilot Lt Nurettin Gull flying 790, a picture of the aircrew after the engagement can be seen below ( its unclear which one Lt Gull is ). The kit is an Italeri kit supplemented with Aires resin cockpit & undercarriage sets, Xtradecals & painted with Alclad2, first time ive used Alclad and it hasnt had the burnished finish i expected, i suspect thats down to the gloss black base coat not being 'gloss' enough, more practice needed! The serial numbers were cobbled together from various decals left over from other kits, one area i did enjoy was attempting heat discolouration, thanks to alclad 'Hotmetal Blue' & 'Jet Exhaust' and a 0.15 needle on my airbrush, after a bit of practice i decided less is more! Comments, hints & criticisms welcome!
  10. Haha! Next Im going to do a Messerschmit Bolkow Blohm BO-105M in Uraguyan Antartic colours - couldnt get further away if i tried! I will be in touch next time i do a sand hugger!
  11. Okay! so as per Tom's excellent in depth knowledge, ive adapted my SU-7 Fitter to authentically represent a 1973 Yom Kippur war example, the changes are: 1. Deletion of fuselage roundal 2. Deletion of green stars on roundals ( Syria & Egypt were effectively the United Arab Republic at that time and had the same markings ) 3. Deletion of the green stars on the Flag on the tail and hand paint the Eagle of Sahaladin on the white stripe ( as per the egyptian flag, for the same reasons as no.2 ) 4. last three digits of the serial number 1814 painted on the nose in front of the aux air intakes and full serial number painted on tail ( 1813 is the example outside the Museum in Damascus, so number is authentic ) 5. Armed with 4 x FAB-250M54 bombs instead of previous loadout, as they were during the conflict. phew! think il do a nice safe chopper next!
  12. Yeah, ive always thought that odd,.surely that isnt done in real life? Once my 250 pounders arrive from Hannants, i will set about 'authenticating' this model Tom, and repost pics on here..
  13. Problem..the flag on the tail of a Syrian SU-7 of the Ramadan war, should be that of the United Arab Republic? Correct? According to Wiki ( so it might be wrong ) this should be the liberation flag with the hawk of Quriesh on the white? problem is the only flag left on the decal sheet is the egyptian 'Eagle of Salahadin' although its so small its almost indistinguishable.
  14. Id like to keep it a Syrian example, ive ordered the 250M54's aires does a kit ( cant find 500M54's ) so i can arm it with that, so just to be sure, can you confirm: 1) obliterate the green stars on the roundals 2) delete the roundal on the fuselage 3) replace the flag on the tail with an egyptian one on the decal sheet, ( eagle on the white strip on the flag ) to make it a 1973 Ramadan war example 4) repaint the serial number 18XX on the tail 5) repaint the last 3 digits of the serial number 8XX on the nose 6) arm with 4 x FAB-250M54 That would give me an accurate Syrian SU-7 from the Yom Kippur / Ramadan war?
  15. Yeah i knew numbers were left to right, im tempted to try and 'adapt' this model, i still have egyptian decals so could put the egyptian flag on the tail if i can somehow obliterate the syrian one and the decal on the fuselage. I can check eduard / Hannants for the bombs you mention too, as for the serial number, i could try hand painting them on ( not easy!! ) so the last 3 digits on the nose, and the full 4 digits on the tail right? I could find no definitive info on the Turkish F-84F, other than it was 182 filo, possibly tail code '790' piloted by N. Gul, http://aces.safarikovi.org/victories/turkey-iraq.html
  16. Hello Tom, Thanks for the comments, yeah i knew the tail shot was of an egyptian aircraft, the plaque is just about readable on the photo, but i thought it interesting so put it in, im annoyed at the decals and weapons payload though! I used Hi-Decal sheet for the decal and camo scheme, and the kopro kit only has 2 x bombs, 2 x rocket pods & 4 x large rockets, see the payload advice on the kit instructions below, i mulled this over and thought the bomb and rocket pod a more conventional layout than the large rockets, pics or information on typical payloads for that conflict are thin on the ground (without paying for specialist books) even pics of Syrian SU-7 of the time are very few, to top it all my serial number 2907 is also false! aaargh! Unfortunately the decals are under two coats of Klear, Mig wash and matt coat, so they are pretty much stuck there, i'l just have to chalk this one up to experience! But its bloody annoying as i always strive for authenticity, i really enjoy moddeling aircraft with proven history ( see my other builds ) otherwise my attention wanes. on an other matter i have an F-84F to build and wanted to do it in the markings of the Turkish Air Force jets that shot down two Iraqi Il-28's on the 16th August 1962, but can find no definate colour scheme or serial number for the aircraft involved,..i dont suppose you would have that info handy?? I'l keep your details handy for future builds if your amenable.
  17. Lovely people, met Syrian immigrants when i went to the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul 2 years ago, they were working in a coffee shop off taksim square, some of the nicest people ive ever met.
  18. Hello Peeps! This is my latest effort, i think the 4th ive done now since ive rediscovered this hobby, the learning curve continues! Im getting better with the airbrush and have the preshading and camoflage gremlins sorted, ive invested in Mig washes too which have been a revelation, still not conquered the drunken modelling though,..i may have a problem..hic! I attempted the metal discolouration effect on the exhaust area, but failed miserably!, im sure i saw a french sabre on here that had been hand painted with the same effect, god knows how he did it! The kit is a Kopro 1/48 scale bought on Ebay, not a great kit, instructions were poor, as was the fit in places, augmented with Eduards exterior, interior, wheel bay & Brassins excellent ejecion seat. This example is a BMK of the Syrian Air Force during the 1973 Yom Kippur / Ramadan war, most of these were lost during this conflict, the soviets re-supplied the Syrians with new SU-7's after the war, they were retired in the 1990's.
  19. that is a beautiful kit! where did you find it?
  20. How do you find the KP kit Arkady? any good? Im going to enjoy this one!
