  1. Wow quick response, and yes thats the one. Thanks for the info, I am not so worried about the odd scale but if I have to spend a lot of time or money to get it looking right then its not worth it. He is asking $42.00NZD for it (about 21.GBP) and I found a company in Hong Kong selling it for about $6.00USD so I am guessing $42 is over the odds still.
  2. Hi folks Does anyone know of Hobby World Models? are they any good? I have the opportunity to pick up a 1:48 scale Skyhawk two seater that I would like to build into an RNZAF TF-4G or 4k, the price is quite reasonable for the NZ market. The seller has suggested it looks like a rebox of a hasegawa? does this sound likely? I may be visiting the RNZAF Wigram Museum that has the TF-4k (I think its a 4K, certainly its a 2 seater) later this year so can take lots of walk arounds to help with the details Thanks for any help
  3. Very nice, stunning in fact. weathering is perfect...
  4. maybe but the preshading does look good, not too strong.
  5. looking really good, I did wonder how the Tamiya mixes would look, but they seem ok except the green? what about the underside? is that the Tamiya mix also? it looks darker than I expected. I am slowly getting into my one, I need to dedicate some time to getting paint into the cockpit.
  6. Very pretty, mine is stalled by life intruding, I hope to get into it a bit this weekend. Thanks for sharing the details it will make life easier, plus you have set a very high bar. What did you use for panel line wash?
  7. Thanks Jean, I feel the same about the zebra one, I haven't found much about it, also thanks for the explanation about the stripes. I am pretty sold on option one but I may still buy the stencils and look at painting my own insignia's etc, this will be good practice for the big swordfish I am building soon. Cheers Stewart
  8. Right colour schemes option one This comes in the box, it is Pierre le Gloan's mount in 1942 just prior to the allied "Torch" landings Le Gloan is infamous for having flown for the French, downing Axis aircraft, then flying for Vichy French and downing a number of British aircraft before swinging back to fight for the Allies after the armistice, he was killed belly landing a P39 later in the war. The only downside to this scheme is that all the tail fin markings and the red stripes are supplied as decals, I am not sure how well these will go down. The instructions call for yellow paint topped by the stripe decals etc. The alternatives are: Buy this decal set from Hannants, which detracts from the OOB build of this gift set but is a tempting choice if only for the Invasion stripes. This appears to be an ex German D.520 (several were captured at the fall of France I believe) with the mottled camo. Or Morocco 1947 but I can not find much detail about this scheme, decals also available from Hannants on a Illiad? set I must admit I like both option one and two, I could buy Montex Masks stencil set from Hannants and build option one, spraying my own insignia etc which may help correct the colours etc, has anyone used these stencils?
  9. First coat of Olive green on (over a grey undercoat), the photos are not that good, I need better lighting and have a macro extension coming for my other camera which may help. the gap at the rear seat is clearly seen here Looking at this one again that gap is clear, plus I need to tidy up around the headlights, I didn't notice that last night. First car I have done, first 1:48 vehicle so a few firsts there. Meanwhile I am looking at options for the D.520 schemes, as there are a couple of D.520's in this build already I am considering a Free French in D Day markings option, I will post the schemes shortly and see what folks think.
  10. Can I join in from down under please? I have a 1:48 Arii F4U-1A to build in RNZAF Pacific colours, looking at my stash and the glacial speed which I build, I should just about be ready to tackle it by next year. Kia Kaha
  11. Absolutely stunning work, thanks for the WIP. Reading this makes want to try a "wheelie" thing to go with my "flappies", hopefully number one child has taken the hints and something similar in 1:48 is winging its way down the Pacific as we speak... Won't be suitable for this build but still will be fun to try
  12. A little beauty, if mine comes out half as good I will be happy. What did you use to glue the glass in?
  13. Howdy folks, Time to dip my toes into a Group Build, reading the GB forums I stumbled across this one and I just happened to have Tamiya "French Aces" Dewoitine D.520 + Staff car. This was a Christmas gift from my daughter and as she is home for a holiday in July I need to have it built. So without further ado here we go.... The obligatory box shot. The Avenger in the background is my "slightly stalled" project which is now getting attention also. The sprue shot The legendary Tamiya shake n bake quality seems well deserved, although I read about a gap in the back of the car between the wheel arch and the rear seat. Because this was a gift I don't want to spend money on aftermarket accessories so will be building this OOB although I am still researching colours and options for decals.
  14. Looking good, I will be building the 1:48 version as part of my entry to the GB, does yours have the big gaps between the back seat and the wheel arches? on the 1:48 there is a large gap back there that shows daylight. Not sure yet how to fix it, or if in fact I will fix it. Either I will be watching your build with interest.
  15. Hi Guys, I am new here and while wandering through the forums I came across this GB, am I too late to join? My daughter bought me the Tamiya D520 "French Aces" set with Aircraft and Staff car. I really should get my act together and build them up before she comes home for a holiday in July so this is an added incentive. If its ok to join in I will be building pretty much OOB, I will even try and use the kit decals, even after regarding the bad press about colours etc. Then I just need to read up on how to add pictures etc and I am good to go... Cheers
