  1. Seconded. I'm getting more and more tempted by this GB, but I'll have to hold off until I finish the Vignette GB project.
  2. What scale do you want? The latest 1/48 offerings are the British Humber MkIV armoured car, and the JGSDF Type10 MBT, in 1/35 you are looking at the M10 and AMX13 light tank. Note though that if you build the Humber, the overall colour relevant to the included decals is SCC2 service brown, rather than the green that Tamiya suggest. For the latest releases, visit the Tamiya website, online catalogue, select the relevant scale range, and click back one page. Edit: Latest releases; 1/35, 1/48
  3. Probably the easiest option then would be a short-barrelled type, maybe a 'D or 'E?
  4. As far as I remember, the last model to see service in North Africa was the Ausf F2, later redesignated the G, IIRC. The obvious differences were the lack of turret and hull Schurtzen, and the shorter L43 7.5cm gun with a single-baffle globe muzzle brake, the H got full Schurtzen options and the longer L48 7.5cm gun with the double baffle brake, there may of been some differences in the hull as well. Don't use the Bovington PzIV as a reference, it's an ausf D hull with an L43 gun and the muzzle break from an L48, of course it's not an impossible combination, who knows what the DAK engineers could have got up to?
  5. I'm sure you already know this, but the Light blue colour call in the Matilda instructions should actually be BS28 Silver-Grey. If you let me know your preferred paint brand, I'll see if I can give you the relevant mixes. Looks good built up, maybe I'll dig my Tamiya 1/48 out if the stash next week.
  6. Well, the verdict seems unanimous, so no fence. I think it still needs a visual break between the two groups of subjects, maybe a rope barrier instead, or a single low railing with a data plate attached? I'll give it some thought while I try and knock together a tree for the background. Thanks all.
  7. I'll try this weekend one the boy's birthday is over with.
  8. Looks like a good start. Regarding those figures you chose, I remember building some in very similar poses when I built the old 1/25 Centurion about 25 years ago. Still, nice to see them down in 1/48.
  9. Looking very nice there, I'm assuming that it's 1/48?
  10. Thanks Enzo. I think I'll have to try my hand at modelling water, so I can put her in a more natural setting. A jetty on one of the great lakes perhaps? Keep an eye on the WiP diorama boards
  11. So trying to juggle three builds simultaneously is really not a good idea, still, here is the figure I'm using for the veteran as he comes. 1/50 prepaint from Preiser. and after a quick once over with Agrax Earthshade, he looks like this A little bit nicer, I think you'll agree. Next, I soaked the plaster castings with water, and painted them with a thin wash of tan-grey acrylic, soaking the plaster first stops it soaking the moisture out of the wash as soon as it touches, thanks to The Terrain Tutor, on YouTube, for that little tip. They are just sitting in the cutouts there, so they can be removed for the ground covering, which gives me So after this I dropped the castings into place, fixing them down with indoor grab adhesive to ensure a good grip. I put the Veteran and one mechanic into place with a drop of PVA on each foot, and sealed the ground covering by flooding with tap water, applied with a dropper, and dripping on a 1:1 water-PVA mix. It's still wet as of the taking of this photo, since I've been busy with the Blitz GB, but it'll be dry by the morning. And with the T34 in place, it looks like this Still need to add some greasy rags, toolbox and tools, and some more flora, but I have a question for you all. I am toying with adding an older grand-daughter, but SWMBO thinks it'll be better without, so I present another 2 shots. The differences are obvious, and I'd appreciate your opinions. Which way should I go?
  12. Revell DHC-6. Spread over two days but under the 24hour rule, paint from citadel, Tamiya and army-painter. Built OOB.
  13. All done now. I really wish I'd saved the Tamiya Humber for this though, that was not a nice kit to get done in the time allotted, and I will NOT be doing another one. Still, it doesn't look too bad, 88 More pics in the gallery thread
  14. Thanks Celt. I look on 1/48 as a perfect compromise for armour models. Its big enough that you can get some nice detail in, but compact enough that it builds up quickly, and doesn't take up too much shelf space, even with a vignette base. You could never get a 1/35 T34 onto a 7x5" base, and still leave room for figures or scenic elements, for example. This was my 7th 1/48 armour kit, and I have plans for at least another 7.
  15. HQ vehicle, 1st (polish) Armoured Division (Brigade?) Painted with SCC2 Service Brown mixed from Tamiya acrylics (thanks to Mike Starmer for putting in the effort to find the mix), showing the vehicle participating in training ops prior to the Normandy landings. Minimal weathering, just a coating of dust over the lower sides and wheels. A nice easy build, with no fit issues, typical Tamiya really. Anyway, here are the pics.
  16. Red and black are on, and the gloss-coat is now drying ready for decals. I had to tough up some overspray with a hairy stick, but hopefully it won't show too badly after the decals are on.
  17. Finally got the float struts to stay put, I resorted to CA in the end. Yellow coat on courtesy of Army Painter rattle-can. The camera washed out the colour somewhat, its a richer yellow IRL. Time to mask up for the red.
  18. Thanks guys, the trick I find is to stay busy. Once I'm past 24 hours, I tend to drop off if I'm not actively doing something. That and lots of fresh coffee. Work has continued with me emptying the last of my Halfords white primer onto the floats, I'm off to get some more, and when it's dry I'll mask and spray the yellow. Edit: Or not. turns out Tamiya Extra thin wasn't the best glue to use for this build, I guess the parts tolerances are too big. While masking the floats, two strut joints and the stbd upper finlet came loose. No big deal, they have been re-attached with Revell contacta, and while that sets good and solid, I'm spraying the newish Tamiya 1/48 Humber with SCC2 service brown, turns out it is lighter than I thought
  19. Well, construction is complete as of now, need to get some fine shot to weight the nose in the morning, or I may just leave it and set her into a waterway later. The odd attitude is because the glue is still setting on the floats. Once the weight is in, next step will be masking the windows and a blast of yellow colour primer. Right now though, 35 hours is waaaayy too long for me to go without sleep, so it's off to bed for me.
  20. Frames, etc are not counted, so any base with an area of 36 square inches or less is good. This means you could do, for example 12x3, 9x4, or similar.
  21. Well. work has begun. I'll be doing this over 2 periods, as I have been awake for 26hours as at this photo, and have some time left to go yet. The cockpit and main-planes are built, primer was drying on the interior surfaces while I post this, so it should be ready to continue by now.
  22. As you asked, does anyone know if the RCAF used the short nose float version? If not maybe I'll make it a WHIF! Edit: Found one, so short nose and floats it is. Looking through the image search, I may have to pick up another half dozen or so of these, so many different schemes! Of course SWMBO may not be too keen, a day out or two may be in order
  23. Nice looking Emil you have there, good luck with the weekend build.
  24. Plinth and path have been sanded, trimmed and stained, and the veteran washed with my "talent in a bottle" (Citadel Agrax Earthshade), pics tomorrow. Next step is the groundwork foliage, and a visual backstop. Edit: 2023hrs. Basic ground covering down. Low scrub next.
  25. An older kit I think, matchbox re-pop? Still, fairly simple build, and with SWMBO and kids away with IL's for the weekend there should be no distractions. I'll be building OOB, as a 440sqn RCAF bird, as either a ski or floatplane, because I really hate painting white.
