  1. well that's be back from 10 days sunning myself in a very healthy 82 degrees and looking like a tanned adonis........ and back on the Cent! Just taken the plunge with a set of snippers and will resort to a file for the last bit of trimming back. This is the bit I generally hate. The DEF cover is going to look quite nice when its done. I've now whipped the storage bins off the turret which I has pinned with a dab of glue to look nice for the piccies! Time to start taking the various bits of moulded on detail and to replace with etch where its half decent. I bet a tenner the Voyager etch set did etch bins for the turret......... Grrrrrrrr.
  2. How big is this thing? Can you do an ARRSE scale test so I can see? I only do 1/32 and can get my head around it’s size (fnar) no pun intended!
  3. It’s a 109. I seem to recollect through the dim and distant haze of time we sometimes called them 3/4 tonners. Anyway it’s a 109 with skanky (as the Mrs calls them)!
  4. trimmed the mantlet back Quite a bit of cutting back into the turret to fit it. I'll check the fit in my InAccurate Armour L7 before I start to hack into the turret.
  5. Its very good - I have to say. Ive had a few DEF bits and the quality and attention to detail is superb - and the dimensions. Lets not forget the dimensions.........
  6. DEF mantlet cover has arrived. I must say I'm quite impressed. Not tried it on the panzer yet, so lets hope its a better fit than the Eduard etch. Having a break somewhere warmer for a few days, so not sure if I will get any more done before I depart for warmer weather.
  7. Bloody hell that’s big! What’s something like that set you back if you don’t mind me asking?
  8. All of the Eduard Fender etch is destined for the bin - I had a look at the rear track guards tonight and they are as bad as the glacis locker. Bin material. It is what it is. Anyone reading this will hopefully read the whole thread before buying their etc. GO VOYAGER. I'm amazed no-one else has commented on how bad the Eduard set is. That said, I've not seen many builds of the Amusing Hobby Cent on the hinetetweb. I suppose it's a fairly recent kit. Fingers crossed for you for your Cromwell build. As I mentioned - I went Voyager. A good decision! Than you by the way. So far so good.... I've gone for the DEF mantlet. It's due on Monday. I'll post a piccie. Si
  9. well that's me done for the night. Pretty good progress. Hopefully back on the Wokka soon! I've used .3mm brass rod for the grab handles at the top of the engine deck. I did try two of the Eduard etch ones but they were also pants. The two pick axe heads needed a bit of work with a file as they were clearly cast for a remake of 'Land of the Giants'. Either that or the tankies servicing in the 50s had arms like Popeye and were mega gods. Awaits incoming from former tankies stating 'they were mega gods' 🙂
  10. I must admit I like Halfords finest. Its cheap as chips, you get a whopping great tin for about 8 quid and the finish is excellent. I use it for 99.9% of the priming I do unless its a specialist paint like Alclad. The way I look at primer is its primer. Some of the branded stuff is s fortune for tiny bottle. I cant remember what branded black primer I used for a 1/32nd Avenger I primed and was ready to paint, just before the mrs knocked it off the kitchen table and I watched it drop to the floor like a plane cast from an aircraft carrier deck into the sea at the end of WW2 (she cried in the toilet) but the stuff peeled off the plane. I was well hacked off - the primer and the Avenger (which I binned after 6 months work). The only tip I'd give is before you use it make sure you warm the tin - either stick it on a hot rad for 30 mins or stick the tin in very hot water. It applies well when its warm and not so well when cold. Halfords that is. I'd give the branded stuff a miss - waste of money. Just saying. Ran out of Brown Ale as well. Tragic.
  11. So its difficult to go wrong with the simple bits I spent an hour and a half on this last night. Why oh why didn't I check before I started..... Another gem brought to you by the 'what random stuff shall we make up today' design team at Eduard........ Here's a real one Its my own fault and I wont make the mistake with this etch set again...... The toolboxes are fine. The other 30 quid set............. Lets hope I can use some of it on the turret or I will go balistic. Not amused again. Fortunately its beer o'clock already so there are some upsides
  12. So this is what really cheeses me off about ederwooda etch This set is fairly typical of the stuff they bang out with this piece clearly being done by the 'lets just make stuff up' design team........... The number of times I find this happening with their stuff is enough to make a bloke's blood boil. Fortunately I didnt start hacking the plastic off before checking the fit of the ederwooda stuff. This bit is destined for the bin. I'll see how I get on with the rest of it as we go. Off out with hounds now. if you listen hard you can hear me cursing. It really isn't good enough. Rant over.
  13. Just working my way round the etch on the hull now. Drivers viewing periscope underway I've got another one to do obvioulsy. There isn't actually as much etch as I thought there was on the second Eduard etch set but its still a faff. The other good news is I've just managed to get an order in for the mantlet which is the last piece I needed to complete it.
  14. Thanks re the photo etch, although I wish I'd gone with the Voyager instead of Eduard - its better quality stuff. My Centaur and Cromwell are Voyager etch kits. I've straightened out the plate with good old boiling water. I've still got a slight problem with the guards, which I suspect I will remove and remount. I had a decco at your Berlin Chiefy - very nice. I've done the Chally 2 in the Berlin scheme. Its a proper faff! One of the lads on ARRSE just pinged me this Tempting!!!!! Cheers Si
  15. A little bit of tidying up to do on that top bracket before a second coat And a little bit of tidying up on the l/h side bracket as well then I can crack on.
  16. Thank you, although I've still got one last set of decals to put on the Centaur, then both are ready for glossing and weathering. I reckon once I've cracked the Cent, I'll have a conveyor belt going with 5 panzers to weather.
  17. Hello mate, Both sets of tracks are fine - you wont have a problem with the HobbyBoss ones and both sets paint up well. On balance, I think I prefer the metal tracks as the sag is more natural. The Amusing Hobby Cent I'm on with at the minute had a set of plastic tracks in it and they were really good, but I decided to make the investment in a MasterClub set. On balance, I'll go metal every time, and its is a coin flip between Friul and MasterClub, I'll run with the MasterClub every time. Ta re the etch. It was well worth the effort on the Centaur and Cromwell. It completely transformed the two panzers. Its a pain to do, but like the tracks, the effect can be transformational if you get it right. Cheers Si
  18. Hello mate - sorry I've not managed to reply but I've not been on the site much over the last few days. Those two Cents at the start of the thread look lovely and we appear to have a bit of a Cent fest going on at the minute between the three of us. An interesting subject choice you've ran with. I looked at the kit when it was released but havent picked one up and my childhood memories of the Cent are of the Airfix plastic 1/32nd one that I used to shove around as a seven or eight year old with my paras and commandos. I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress. It will be nice to check in on your build and the Shot Cent build just to compare notes as we go. Cheers Si
  19. I've started a thread with my Cromwell and Centaur which I built in the ARRSE modelling forum, and I'm ready to gloss them when I get a minute and start weathering. There was some good discussion in there - particularly about the use of the star on British panzers. I left it off the one I've done, which I'm rather glad about as it was an utter pig to do on the top of turret. I went for Master Club tracks in the end which I am pleased with. I'm quite liking them, but ran with HobbyBoss on my two Chally's. Enjoy the build. Its a great panzer and a nice little model. It will be good to see how you progress with it.
  20. Not had. great deal of time on the models, but grabbed a bit today. That's both of them done. I'll do the hooks that fit to the front two toolboxes tomoz then get a coat of Mr Surfacer on them so I can see what I'm dealing with. Now they are done, I should make reasonable progress. I may also get some time on the two Chally's and the Cromwell and Centaur if the mrs doesn't whinge too much...... Still no sign of any Mk5 mantlet covers making it to the UK yet also. I'm just looking at the detail on that turret and the plastic moulded clasps etc are not the best and will have to go!
  21. A little bit of progress, having had a weekend shooting and drinking. Thats the second one done, and finally got the claps on the first side. Second lot of toolboxes are ready for the claps and handles to be fitted Once these are done I'll sort out the warped glacial armour. I wonder if the AFV Club Cent has the same problem?
  22. Hey Steve, the tracks were dropped in Mig track fuildy stuff for 5 minutes - the blue liquid. The problem with them was of course the masterclub track pins which are plastic and the track fluid only works on metal, so I sprayed the edges with Mig Dark Dracks, which is very similar to the shade I got having steeped them in Mig Track fluidy blue stuff. I then ran some light rust wash fliud over them and when that was drat, went over the with gun metal pigment which has worked pretty well - I'm pleased with the result. One thing I noticed, which I've not considered before, when doing the two Chally's I've got on the go (which are in another build thread), the rubber tyres on the wheels polishes the metal to the tracks to I highly shiny (near chrome almost) finish - which makes sense - the friction of he metal in between the rubber (fnar) will polish. I've no doubt the Cent will have been the same, as will any other vehicle with tracks and rubber tyres on the wheels. I've not finished the tracks yet, but have a look at the Chally builds - you may be able to see the tracks on them. HTH Cheers Si In fact here you go - have a look at the raised teeth that sit in between the two tyres.
  23. Looking at the Voyager etch, I'd go down that route if there was a next time. The do a set specific to the Mk5/1 and the Mk5/2 and there are no perforations in the bends. I think Eduard dropped the ball here - looking at the real ones, the tool boxes dont have curved bends in them anywhere. A bit irritating, but that's always the downside of Eduard etch - they often 'make things up'..
  24. Thank you. On the perforations, they are really quite odd. Bends on the etch are normally an etched line, but on these toolboxes, the bends around the toolbox top that you can see are very fine holes. I did spend a lot of time looking at Mk3 Cents to see if the real ones has a similar pattern but I could find no evidence of it. The only reason I could come up with for having them on the big ones was ventilation, but given the conditions panzers operate in that makes no sense, and you'd end up with a toolbox full of wet kit. I did try to solder them on one of the boxes I've not done yet, and the paste and solder strip runs straight through the holes, so it doesn't solve the problem. I was going to try spraying Mr surfacer to prime them to see if that does the job. Fine paint may fill them in (possibly), but I could end up in the same boat as with the solder I tried, which is the holes wont fill! I've no idea why Eduard did these bends the way they did, but unfortunately they have....... Let's see how I get on with Mr Surfacer. Hopefully that will sort it. I should have gone with Voyager PE is the learning point. Bit late now!
