  1. Happy New Year everyone. I’m currently nursing the hangover from hell so won’t make a start on the 30 cal which landed yesterday but as it’s so bloody stunning, it merits some piccies. I ordered a couple of 30 and 50 cals as they were coming all the way from the land of the rising sun and the postage was a tad pricey. I have to say this is stunning. and the good news is there are three different mounts shipped in the kit so I don’t have to make one. hopefully normal service resumes tomorrow and I may get the thing finished.
  2. so the tow cables came from InAccurate Armour and I’ve just managed to get ten minutes in whilst doing a ham joint. In doing so, I’ve managed to wipe out some of the etch…… I heated the brass cable before attaching the tow hooks and it’s not made a jot of difference - the brass wire is still rock hard to bend and inflexible! I went for the led-light photo sensitive dental glue stuff to fit the resin ends as CA glue wasn’t going to be strong enough to hold the resin into the brass cable. I must say I do like this glue a lot. It’s ace. if you look at the top piccie, note the bracket just to the left of the toolbox which supports/feeds the tow cable. It’s seated higher than the bracket on the instructions for the model, which is a little irritating as I’ll have to move it to the correct place. When I’ve finished a model, I generally shoot the final piccies on the mrs piano as for some reason, the shots turn out quite nice. The infamous piccie is the ‘in progress’ Wokka shot. Anyway I got her one of these for crimbo. It’s bloody mahoosive and will keep her quiet for a week or so. I need to invest now in a 1/144 Wokka is the bad news as I can now do two Wokka shots if I get a baby Wokka! beer time now…….
  3. Great build as ever. wot next is the big question?
  4. thanks Terry mate and have a fantastic Christmas. Hobbled about with no crutches this morning and I managed to avoid Harry Potter! Cheers Si
  5. Aber tie downs arrived so finally nailed the turret (I've not fixed the gun barrel in the mantlet before anyone points out its wonkey). I wasnt happy with the InAccurate Armour tie downs, and as the mrs was out most of the afternoon on a final mad dash for a few bits, I took the opportunity to grab a few mins on the Cent (as you do). No sign of the tow cables which I thought would arrive today and I doubt Royal Mail will delver tomorrow. I think that's me officially done for the next few days. Have a great Christmas everyone and if you plan to do one of these, I hope the build tempts you to dust off that Cent you have tucked away in your pile of unbuilt kits as its deffo worth the effort. Go on! You know you want to!!
  6. Thank you. Deffo getting there, and I found one of the escaped bits of etch on the floor last night which is a result. Unfortunately not the complex one, which is gone forever..... Tow cables turn up today and the little lads landed yesterday but the cancel culture is strong in my mrs. Models been banished to the far corners of the earth. I've been informed I can model again after the 27th of Dec - this year!
  7. As I'm effectively downing tools for now, here's a couple of shots of where I've got to with it
  8. That's me officially ground to a halt. I cant do anything else to the new bits turn up. I thought the hinges added a nice little touch to the proceedings. Hopefully bits will land between now and before the new year, subject to how indifferent the Royal Mail is.... I've ordered two 30 cal and two 50 cal guns from the land of the rising sun. Fedexed them, so with the two sets of Aber ties, the 30 cal and the tow wires from InAccurate Armour, any idea of budget or sensible spending on the Cent is firmly out of the window! This has knocked the two Challys out of the ball park on build cost! Its cost farsands........ She will be pleased! I hope I've got some suitable Hornet heads lying around somewhere! Hopefully I can now sneak some time in on the Challys and the Cromwell and Centaur! And the Mat - dont forget the Mat. And the Wokka!! Don't forget the Wokka!!!!
  9. So here's the 30 cal debate. @Dads203suggested I go for the Asuka 30 cal which is 1,000 yen (sick squid) plus postage and import duty and it may take several years to arrive from the land of the rising sun. I've seen one for 15 sheets over here which is a tad pricey. Anyway, the options are below Top one Asuka, middle one is nicked from the Meng Willys Jeep and the bottom one is from the UnAmusing Hobby kit. There's clearly no comparison but the issue is the cradle the 30 cal is sitting in. Anyway. A debate to have about what to do. It seems a shame to run with the kit one after putting the effort in on the etch. I'll have to have a thing about the cradle. Had a little play. Those are MinArt British tankies in winter kit with Hornet heads. Having looked at the Hornet heads, I'd say the average age of the bloke is 4, maybe 500 years old.... Where I think I'd heading is to get some heads of yougsters and to make their lids out of Magic Sculpt as these lads would be national servicemen and bits of boys. Shaping little berets - something to look forward to!!
  10. thank you Roger - I must say having thought it was a bit of a pig, I’m really pleased I stuck with it. the little lads turn up today and I’ve just thrown 15 sheets at two sets of Aber tie down cleats as I’m not happy with the ones on the front of the turret. The InAccurate Armour ones aren’t right even though they are a Cent cleat set and the ones shipped with the Ederwooda etch set were too small. It’s turning into a bit of an expensive build this one. I’ve still for the tracks to finish. I need to spray a polished steel line down the centre, including the track teethas the rubber on the wheels polishes the metal up. I’ve still got a lot to do on it yet, and ‘note to self’, I’ve got the power cables to replace on the turret! not sure how much I will get done til the day after Boxing Day as the mrs wants the models away. I model on her kitchen table and never clear up, so meal time is always interesting! She wants her ‘country cottage back and to live in it like normal people’😀 took my first proper steps with no crutches which is a tad fortunate as I start a new job on the 4th January. I was flapping a bit in case I had to turn up and someone said ‘how come you are on crutches? Have you had an accident?’ 😶
  11. Yup - that’s exactly where I’m at with it. I’ve spotted a dozen+ other things that need doing to it. I also need to have a think about what to do with the 30 cal mount as the kit one looks odd beside the etch. Not sure I will get paint on before Christmas…
  12. We. I'm clearly rubbish at estimating the amount of time to finish this! That's the mount for the 30 cal done. Its a shame ederwooda didn't make the etch stowage mounts for it. I've used the viewing port and wiper blade. I think I've got away with it - it was a bit small. Thats the mounts for the tools complete also. And the last cover for the drivers periscope is complete. I've got the tow cables to do and one of the cable stowage mounts to make as the etch one vanished having shot off a pair of tweezers at 4,000 mph never to be seen again...... I also managed to knack a couple of other bits which were very fragile, which I'm really cheesed off about having got the two exhausts done. Anyway, I'll see what I can do about those tomoz. Probably another couple of hours to do hopefully tomoz. Last shot and that's me done for the day as I've had hours on it today!
  13. Rgr that (ho ho ho no pun intended). I was just concluding it must have been trial kit they were referring to. I hope it did better than Ajax is doing!!
  14. Now any scaleys out there who know when Larkspur was rolled out? I’ve just read mid 50s. My panzer is 1954 and BAOR which I’d assume would have got it first. The reason for the question is I’m trying to work out what to do about heads for the miniart figures. WW2 berets left a lot to be desired where shaping and wearing them was concerned! Mid 50s seemed to show the first signs of sensible hats. That said, we appear to be wearing beanies now with that cap badge drifting towards the back of the head! I must be getting old…….. anyone know roughly when larkspur hit BAOR is the question?
  15. good morning! I was going to say early start as I’m flat out in bed but it’s 0900 hrs! That exhaust has been a real pig to do I’ve not soldered this one yet. the straps are heated under a naked flame which makes the PE easy to bend. Not quite cloth like qualities but nearer cloth than brass. Give it a go. figures not my favourite to do, but by the time I do these I’ll have about 25 blokes lining up to be painted. I’m hoping my figure painting will improve!!
  16. Its sold as an AFV Club/Amusing Hobby mantlet. It was probably design for the AFV club panzer but it’s basically the same kit.
  17. The straps are worth using, although given how fragile the tie-down is, its not possible to secure it then bend the strap, which is shame. I'll fit the straps after painting I reckon. So much for finishing today!
  18. Well. Shaping that then soldering it was a barrel of laughs……. that’s the first exhaust outlet done. Should have taken the bloody seam out before fitting it though. Damn! it’s a bit battered but I think it will be OK.
  19. InAccurate Armour do the D and F decks for 18 sheets which is pretty reasonable. My Cromwell and Centaur were build out of the box as I thought I spent enough on aftermarket. With hindsight I should have addressed the decks, but I guess it’s a question of how OCD you are about this stuff!
  20. Yep they look pretty good. I have the miniart winter kit set for my Cromwell and Centaur. Not sure what I was thinking about as it’s June!!! I was lucky enough to pick up a set of Inside Armour 1/35 cap badges which are as rare as rocking horse poo.
  21. I’ve just ordered those mini art tankiesfor my Cent. Are they any good?
  22. Having spent a little bit of time looking at the RTR lads, I’ve ordered these I should be able to get 2 or 3 lads out of these. I’ll need to pick up some heads with larkspur comms. Don’t think I’ve got any.
  23. Needless to say i've been flat out today following the Covid booster jab yesterday afternoon. Bloody typical! So nowt done on the Cent. I have however been looking at a nice site from 2RTR back in the day in the Fatherland in Munster (1954-58). Some nice piccies of them bombing around on Sennelager in Cents, but I was only interested in what the tankies are wearing at the time as I'm on the hunts for little lads. That's 2 RTR in 1954. Looks like an un-upgraded Mk5. Not sure what year they binned the WW2 overalls. This lad is in battledress. Again it's 1954. 1958, so about 4 years later than I was looking to go for. Not his best piccie! Anyway - I'll see if I can ket away with kit figures for the bodies, if not, its Magic sculpt. Now back on the Cent!
