  1. Sundays update. So a start today with the aim of getting the fusealge closed up today - that meant no scratch-building of passenger seats or even searching out civilian pilots..... First task cut our 2 new passenger windows as shown of the Lima November detailed decal instructions - this is the method I adopted from Brett Green's modelling book - Dyno tape keeping my favourite Olfa scriber on the right track! Halfway through - just slowly with the scriber until you go through the plastic.. And we are through! Tidy-ish window aperture Cargo and passenger doors to be inserted - trying to disguise the cargo door.. Scribing in some panel lines... and cargo door hinges cut off with scalpel Some plasticard to hold the doors in place Went with light gret interior for a civvy DC3 State of play by late afternoon Flushed in doors.... Decal sheet No2 is laser printed so needs a coat of Klear - brushed on for speed Apologies for photo heavy update - hopefully of interest to fellow Nordic GB followers
  2. Stuart thanks - yeS the aircraft it self always was an attractive type in my eyes and ive decided to keep the base very simple/rustic as it dosnr need much more. That base actually came away from the base so i prepared it properly this time adding pva and recreated the snowy ground. Cheers Rich Dave - agreed the bright orange against the green is very pleasing. Not sure which other Swedish aicraft were similarly schemed? Thanks for the compliments, often its quite rewarding spend a bit of time on a small 1/72 aircraft - eyes complaining tho!
  3. Very nice wee mini diorama base and model TT. Quite evocative which I guess was the aim. I built the fox moth last year in Spanish cw scheme and rudimentary base and finishing a model for the Nordic GB just now with a 'snowy' base......
  4. Thanks Rich The DC3 is always a winner! Yeah a MAD boom is one of the options - presume must have carried out survey work at some point - was a straight passenger aircraft when I saw it in Aberdeen - i recall the puff of smoke at startup and the squeaky brakes......seemed vintage even in 1974!
  5. Cheers Desert Falcon - I will - i did start an Italeri C47 10+ years ago before i got really into modelling and looks OK but not to my required standard of today! Toby Cheers - yes I used LN decals for my Wideroe DHC Otter flaotplane a few years ago - very nice! Not many pics of LN-KLV on the net that I could find. Tips - yeah will check out the set and see if they are a decent price! I could also use Humbrol Clearfix which works well on small windows and can be applied after painting. NMF - I use AK Metal Extreme and its very forgiving I've found. I have 4 different shades and Tamiya silver works alright as a high speed silver - I do have a range of Alcld bottles but never used them due to the reports it was so difficult to work with.... I think there are some grey areas too on the Nor Fly Dc3. But always happy to experiment to expand skills and knowledge where I can sop thanks for the tips -thts what make BM such a great platform for modelling geeks! Will update when i get something to photograph. JP

    Nor-Fly DC3

My second entry for this great GB from my stash - Italeri C47 with Nor-Fly decals, Norwegian airline from the 70's. This machine, LN-KLV used to be a regular visitor to Aberdeen, Dyce in 73, 74 before being replaced with Convair 440 equipment. The kit is Italeri which has nice recessed panel lines and is regarded as the best C47/DC3 in 1/72 scale. I will need to cut out a couple of passenger windows but I wont be building the passenger interior I dont think. Decals are Norwegian company Lima November - a mix of laser and silk screen for some reason - they look smart! Obligatory pre-start pics L Looking forward to a 'big' airliner!
  7. Just about there with the build - some small details to add to finish but here are the latest pics. Pics show up all the defects.... Some stretched sprue that needs to be painted brown to represent leather on the cockpit openings. Couldnt resist sticking the pilots in - figures not my thing really.. Had a go quickly with a square of ply and some plaster of paris - snowy scene developing for the ski equipped Klemm! Will let dry and spray with white and do some minimal diorama work but will look OK I think Next Nordic GB kit selected - think Lima November decals on an early Douglas product.....
  8. Not complete yet guys but thanks for the encouraging comments. The yellow of the decal does not come through as well on the orange background - should have sprayed on white discs to pl;ace decal on top of, but its a quick build so not too concerned. Skis and pilots to fit and paint next!
  9. Decals going on. Micro Set and Micro Sol suitably numbered in case I forget the order to apply..... Carrier film can be seen so I trimmed the rest, but hopefully will have settled down by tomorrow.
  10. Update at lunchtime today. First a pic during the spraying of the green - RLM70 from Sovereign paints - really liking the way they go down. Tamiya X6 orange for the wings (under swathes of masking tape!) - gloss but thats fine for the decals. Now brush coated with Klear in the absence of me finding a suitable gloss coat All ready for decals tonight. The kit decals are OK - they could be improved on but I am using them as this is a quick build and I want to get onto the next Nordic model! Choice is 1/72 NorFly DC3 or 1/48 Finnish AF Lysander.... loving this GB!
  11. Small update. Opened up the vents/air intake in the front of the cowling. The lunchtime (the advantages of working from home!) sprayed the wings and tail plane orange as the Tamiya paint arrived today! Its bright! Mask off this evening hopefully - need to catch up with the other models in the GB as I have another selected for inclusion.....
  12. Very swift progress and looking really good. Can I ask how you got the IP looking so good? I tried brush painting mine, but its shocking..... Then noticed there was a decal.... John
  13. Jockney - who knew orange could cause so much 'controversy'! Nice Renzan!
  14. Thanks Christer - I will do some test painting with what i already have - hopefully get a decent match
  15. No update but resin pilot seat arrived today - go compare
  16. Yes Jes I like the Huma kits - have a few like the FW44, Fi56 and Do27 that i can recall.
  17. Tonights status. Fuselage clapped together (the cockpit is painted honest), wings on, tail and tailplanes fitted. Pilots cut from sprue and then filed 'thinner' to fit into the cockpit! Have a rough idea on colours of their uniform, so thats next. Prop is a bit fat so I have shaved it slightly, still not sure - need to check the picture sites. So coming along and will need a nominal smear of filler at the joints, then onto priming. Its small..... Thanks but how do I convert that to say Tamiya, Humbrol?
  18. I see we have a couple of the wonderful looking Airfix Ju87B already in the GB and I wonder if i can join with the same. I intend to build the boxed Condor Legion option. I started this last week at my local modelling group as it was a build night, so here is starting pic and progress to date. Obligatory and excellent box art! Interestingly 'designed and manufactured in the UK' - surpise and welcome. To prove not started! Cockpit progress on build night - I take my time! Main cockpit parts painted. Matt black primer then RLM02 light spray to hopefully pick out the detail Seems to be a step up in quality from other Airfix kits I've built. Now waiting for aftermarket pilot seat with seatbelts.
  19. Greg - will be following your build. Really want a 1/48 Ju87A myself, but thin on the ground!
  20. Christer thanks for the advice. Yes I noticed a few pictures on the various photo site. Looking for a picture from probably late 40's of the Sk15 on skis..... Choice for the oraange wings.... Revell Matt 25 is favourite from my existing tins of orange!
  21. Cheers guys for your encouraging comments. Been cracking on inbetween waiting for paint to dry....on my He51. Parts cut off sprue and cleaned up - typical flash of a small kit producer - quite satisfying and theraputic! Cockpits - really cant be bothered with them sorry (I'm ex airliner builder!) so I've gone with what the kit has supplied - very basic seats and IP - will get basic paint on tomorrow. Fuselage is nicely moulded with frame showing and some indednted panel lines to add a bit of interest but probably over scale. Fine sized locating pins for wings and tail plane......
  22. Wow - hadnt looked at forthcoming GB so when I saw the Nordic GB yesterday I wondered how I could join with one of my many kits from the stash! Well if I can, I am jumping in with a Huma Klemm 35, to be finished as a Swedish AF example in a very striking green and orange scheme. The kit actually incl;udes decals for 6 options including one with spats and the Swedish version with skis. I have a slight fondness for the Klemm, having seen a few flying at the Hahnweide show and having visited the former Klemm factory airfield at Boblingen, near stuttgart - I have 3 in the stash, all identical. Here is the kit - in 1/72 so not many parts. Decals look OK but black outlines around the white codes - not sure if that is right but not really done any research so far. Instructions (quaint) and decals sheet 'Achtung' - a warning! Not sure what it means as my school german cant translate, but thats why we have google ..... Hoping this will be a quick build - minimal cockpit, which suits my model making methods, but I guess I will need to investigate colours and what could be seen once the 2 pilots are installed. Seats are the usual square L shaped approximation and IP's clunky - no worries the orange colours will distract the casual inspector at my local model club! Looking forward to being part of this GB. Who knows, the other Nordic nations may also be represeneted by builds if I get my finger out!
