  1. Thanks Peter Its OK and potentially a nice kit. There are a few too many sink marks that I decided not to fill but once the painting is done I think they wont be too readily seen. Painting is my favourite part of model making, but difficult to get a nice clean finish I find. I will finish it and post on the main RFI page. John
  2. OK so I've run out of time on this one - painting has commenced so its home straight but will not be competed for today's deadline. I'm blaming the Nordic GB, for which I completed an amazing two models for! Also weather even in NE Scotland was lovely yesterday, so the garden got this model makers attention.... Here is where I got to this afternoon: Primed with Tamiya light grey from a can\, usually smooth.... Tried some mottling with a light grey mist coat Blue underside again subtly mottled - too subtle in the photo! So that's it - white wingtips, then onto masking the jagged camo pattern Well done to all those who completed on time!
  3. Here is my second entry to this great Group Build. Impressed myself completing two! The Italeri 1/72 C47 completed as a DC3 of NorFly using Lima November decals.
  4. Cheers Col Thanks for that. looks fine from a distance! Yes SAS DC10 that I acquired from a club member - fine trijet!
  5. Rich - cheers. Was a relatively easy spray of a panel and plenty space to work round as you say. Here is the DC3 finished anyway. Got there eventually after spending ages on aerials etc. Not perfect but overall a good addition to my collection of completed models.
  6. Cliff Thanks - I was looking forward to the build as the Stuka has always been a favourite aircraft of mine. The kit is crisply moulded but there are a few sink holes and the fit is 100% in places and then difficult to fit in others, so I lost enthusiasm. With the glazing going on I'm getting my mojo back for it - then remembered the canopy masking..... Will push on for the GB deadline.
  7. Update at last - forgotten how long since I posted sorry! Looks Ok there and progressing towards painting stage. Glazing going on masking next!
  8. Nice detailing in 144 scale!
  9. Cheers Col - oh I've yot to replace it?? Ragnarec - i will settle the tail decal still but no shrinking which is important to match the windows. Metal xtreme is sealed with Klear to protect it but no problem masking etc. Thanks for the comments
  10. Pictorial update - should have been finished by now but the usual glitches.. Landing lights in - used the rhinestones for the first time! Another view with the painted props Tail decal on - quite thick and inflexible One side strip on Aaargh! The venturi was indeed in the wrong place for the decal - scalpel to the rescue mid decalling session - not best practice! Will need to respray the panel. You can see the bubbles in the humbrol clear fix too - will look great from 6 feet away!
  11. Ragnarec Hmm - I thought the decal would miss the venturi - no, so I had to slice it off mid-decalling! Not the best - now its a respray of one panel.... as i say I seem to take two steps forward and one back!
  12. Sunday afternoons progress: So here I have added a tail light for this civil DC3 - clear sprue, cut to small length, drilled and filled with red paint, then glue to plastic sprue, then sanded with increasingly fine grit to a smooth tube. Then i hacked a slice in the tail for the light and filled around with sprue goo! Here we see the gloss sanded with polishing cloths 3600 grit - i felty this was smoother. Venturi isnt in the way of the decal I dont think, so its staying there. Foam I had used to mask/block the windows removed as it was masking too much. Just sparayed around the windows... Shiny DC3 with masking still on the control surfaces and cone masks on the engines. AK Xtreme metal sprayed on, which is quite forgiving. A few annoying blemishes to rectify. Side view Masking to aileron removed Tail light on and painted Probably seal the whole lot now with Kleer to protect it from my clumsy way of working. It can be polished but tahts where i muck it up, so not doing that this time. Then re-spray a couple of the panels with blemishes - then decals!
  13. Cliff - still not got it right! Col - looks can be deceptive! Not as smooth in real life - I had the plastic polished smoother! Considering using my polishing cloths on it before going with the AK aluminium - probably over thinking things!
  14. Sprayed on a coat of AK Xtreme glss black as a primer..
  15. Cheers again - will check - but just primed the dc3 in gloss black.....
  16. Thanks - hopefully your DC3 turned out well. OK youre filling me with trepadation about the decals - at least I am warned - the stripes I think are now silk decals - whatever that is and the registration etc laser printed - wait and see how they get on when they hit the water!
  17. Thanks Col - yes Ive lernt that working on the small details makes a difference. Wing roots not too bad - mix of fillers for these....... Plastic putty is great for a thin even joint that you want to dissapear. The other two for bigger filling jobs - take forever to sand.....
  18. Cheers Ray Still conjouring with what best to do with it so will probaby develop it firther to try and disguise it. I could spend a bit more time really trying to remove all traces of cargo door and correct the passenger door shape - see how things go. Not checked LN-KLV history which I really should - then I will be changing this and that and checking engine types etc etc. Happy to crack on and get another build accross the line. JP
  19. Sundays update. Started by re-shaping the props from the 'paddles' that they were - went by eye on the Lima November decal instructions/profile. Prop cleaned up - I applied some Tamiya thin to the hub as thats easier that trying to sand.... Engines painted prior to assembly Another Assembled and painted - not too happy with the carefully masked de-icing strips.... - paint too thin and crept under the masking tape - as usual! Will re-do. Wings are on, but a gap at the wing route - similar underneath - plasticard strip has now gone in to fill and strengthen the joint. Last one for today - the exhausts needed hollowing out and here we see one completed compared to the original. Drilled with small, then larger drill, then scalpel to finish!! Apologies for the pics the wrong way round - in a hurry. Any way it will be ready for priming next week, Whats best for AK Extreme? I have used Tamiya white primer before and that is very difficult to cover evenly or at least to look even. I know gloss black primer is recommended, but never had huge success with that. Basic tips above but hopefully interesting enough build for others. JP
  20. Martin thanks for the comment. Orange and dark green - definitely not camouflage in the snow!!
  21. Cheers Col - yeah was a good Club night - maybe looks better in the photos! Catch you next time!
  22. Dave Thanks for the kind words. Coming together without much problem. Considering some additional scribing and riveting - thoughts before i glue on the wings (more difficult to work on!)? Looking for good references to see if it is worthwhile/desirable.
  23. Thanks Pete - enjoyable simple build of a really nice 1930's aircraft - my favourite decade in aviation!
  24. Huma 1/72 Klemm 35/Sv 15 of Swedish Air Force, Sweden winter 1941. Taimya X6 orange and Sovereign RLM dark green, AK semi gloss clear coat
  25. Thats all I'm doing with its final coat of AK sheen sealer coat. Made new glazing, finished the base, pitot tube fitted under-wing (not seen). Really bright and an enjoyable quick build makes the Nordic GB a great place to be. Pics on the gallery.
