  1. Limited edition of 50 kits - it says on the box. Nice decals on a beast of an airliner from the 60's, 70's. Aparently it is obligatory to post sprue shots etc - so here goes Box shot Sprue - you get just the one! Spantax decals - will be EC-BQA - seen by me as a very young spotter at Frankfurt in 1973! Construction and decal instructions - on one side of A4! Maybe something different Cheers JPthedog
  2. A small update - spent one hour plus cutting and sanding the parts to extend the 3 hush-kitted engines - the green cylinders are former plastic knitting needles! The Airfix engines are pretty 'tired' - each half is roughly the same size - plenty of filling and sanding in prospect! Shame - as the fuselage is looking ready for some shiny black paint!
  3. I have the Hobby Craft I-16 sitting unfinished for a couple of months - so interested to see how your 'weekend' project turns out. Republican markings look colourful! John
  4. Progress over last couple of weeks - hindered by work! But anyway the 727 is now primed with Tamiya light grey from the can, which I find leaves a really smooth base and I can see what blemishes need attention before spraying the final colours. Panel lines are maybe a touch heavy on the fuselage - my first re-scribe, but a lesson learned. Now need to either find 1:144 hushkit engines or scratch build the 3 extended exhausts!
  5. No pressure then! Wings and tail plane glued in place today. The usual issues with old Airfix airliners - gaps at wing roots, now filled and indeed wings warped - done my best - will post photo when its primed. Question - which black to use for spraying the main colour? I have been using Tamiya acrylics for most paint jobs recently. John
  6. Chris & Radleigh, colours are overall black, but its not a private jet! It's a 727 of the Mexican Policia Federal - awesome in my opinion' check out http://www.airliners.net/photo/Policia-Federal/Boeing-727-264-Adv/2124573/L/&sid=36d0535fd391c73dcf9f52fffefb4f09
  7. Cheers Chris - first go. Used old clear sprue, sanded flat one side - then drilled 2 small holes with the pin vice (greatest tool?) then filled with paint - green/red. Glued to wing with super glue as I needed a lot of sanding to get the correct shape etc. Will polish a bit more to be totally clear, then mask off for the spraying. John
  8. Winglet and navigation lights! For the scheme I am doing the aircraft has had winglets added - so scratched some from plastic sheet Also thought I would have a go at navigation lights Still has to be polished out Happy enough with the result of these modifications - but any comments welcome! Tonight I finished re-scribing the fuselage - quite an involved job - particularly at the tapering parts of the fuselage. Will photograph once wings on and primed.
  9. Windows - what there are - will be decals.
  10. Antony Cheers - a few weeks for some research before I rip open the plastic bags with the sprues - almost my favourite part of the build!
  11. Couple of pics from last week: Some filler to improve the centre engine intake - didnt want to spend a long time on this as little can be seen. Ideally I would have laid my hands on some nicely tapering tubing of the correct diameter - so this had to do instead. My crude but effective method of nose weighting airliners!
  12. Last weeks progress with the window filling. Apoxie sanded flush and looking pretty good to my eyes! Decided to rescribe the kit - heres the wings to start with. More progresss to follow - winglets and nav lights!
  13. New to BM and would like to join my first group build - subject will be an airliner from the stash - hopefully something different!
  14. A bit late to this topic but I used Apoxie Sculpt 2 part epoxy for filling the windows in the same way as the photos earlier in this post - started on Sunday on an Airfix 727 and I have sanded the filled openings ready for primer - works well up to this point. John
  15. Enzo - will have another try at the images thanks. I can say that this method is looking good - mixed the epoxy and filled easy - sanding the next day and all looks good. Will post more photos once i have the hang of inserting them! Cheers John
  16. Try again Still cant get the hang of inserting a picture from Picasa - sorry!
  17. New Britmodeller member here with first posting of a WIP. I have selected the Airfix Boing 727-200 as a fairly easy build. I have a great scheme in mind and just recieved the decals last week - but keeping that under wraps meantime! Selected the Airfix 727 over the Minicraft after reading various reviews - neither kit new to the market, but it was the colourscheme that prompted the build. First job - fill the windows with Apoxie Sculpt - as per Aaron Skinners Modelling Airliners book. Success with the photos! Fuselage with roll of Apoxie ready to be pushed through and the other half with the Apoxie pushed through. Leave for 24 hours then sand - hopefully! PS Hope the photos show up in the posting!
