  1. Ah that´s the worst part, I have built aircraft before.. ;)

I built, like many, Airfix and Matchbox as a kid.. The Hurricane IIc from Matchbox was my fav, built a couple after my dad built and painted one (with extra bombs on) for me. Played with my aircraft (and his old!) alot. Best memories was chasing each other, me, my brother and one of his buddies, in the garden. We had a couple of aircraft each, in between "sorties" hid them under strawberrie bushies in the vegetable patch (which looked really cool!)..

Anyways. I then went on and played Games Workshop games for quite some time. Did not paint much, did not enjoy that - but i converted loads which I really liked.. Later played some Flames of War (which I DID enjoy painting!) and then left it all.. Some years ago, I came back, buying an Airfix 1/72 Mustang, brush painted it and then ina  frenzy, another dozen 1/72s until I realized 1/48 was for me..

Made a few with rattle cans and then bought an airbrush a few years ago but studies and work made it kinda erratic. The last model I finished was  JA 37, Tarangus three years ago..  I have an AJ built, needing painting. Same with that Tamiya P-51D.. I´ve done less than 10 1/48.

There are loads of techniques I´ve yet to try though. The only weathering is with UMP/Flory washes really. So I need to try out some new stuff, one new thing per build? :)

The conversion-work on the J 34 put me off a little bit, otherwise I would jump ontop of it right away.. Now, I am actually thinking about a Tamiya P-47M.. (Josephine My Flying Machine). or an Eduard P-51D (Daddy´s Girl).. We´ll see..

    /Random rabblings.. ;)

But thanks for the kind words! :D

WWII US olive drab is and always will be a minefield. Case in point:

These are three original US M1 steel helmets from my collection, all of which still have their original factory-applied OD green paint. The one in the foreground is 1943 production, the other two are 1944 production. They were photographed in daylight (about 10 minutes ago) and the white piece of paper is provided for white balance as your computer display may be different. As you can see, they are all different greens, but they are all "correct" OD green.

As long as you get something broadly correct for OD41 or ANA613, you are assured of being broadly correct...

Yeah, nice case in point. :) Thanks for that picture. And a nice collection you have there!

  3. Ah nice with Caroline!

Was looking through Osprey Publishing´s Very Long Range Mustang units of the pacific War just now (picking up Eduard´s Tales of Iwo Jima this week..). Eduard has 1Lt Robert J Louwers´ P51D-20 22-63451 (22?) with a green/olive drab anti-glare panel. But Eduard has it as black (and calls it 44-63451 - whcih seems more correct! :) )

Not really important, I´ll probably chose what looks the best.. But were those black variants field mods or did they switch over to paint them black?

  4. Thanks guys.. Since I haven´t picked it up yet, I´ll see if I can switch to 138 then. if not, I´ll try it out - or I´ll get an F-4 (or three..). ;)

Seems like good buisness having a paint factory when war broke out (in the US)..

That modern one seems darker, right?

  5. ..following up on my Neutral Grey thread not long ago, I open up another can of worms. Maybe..

Recently ordered USAAF & RAF colours (yeah) for a couple of specific P-47D and M and P-51D builds. I have most already in Gunze and Tamiya colours but wanted to check these out too.

Got them today, well.. it turned out my "Olive Drab" was not there so i checked my order and was about to mail my LFS.. When I found out there were a couple of those.. And I started to google Olive Drab..

    http://www.gmodelart.com/2020/04/plane-colors-and-camouflage-wwii-us.html

    That was quite helpful.

But i had ordered MRP-234 OLIVE DRAB FS34087 - not MRP-138 or MRP-139 I probably should have ordered... What is that MRP-234 for? I could not find out.. Is it an US Army paint?

Now, I will paint "button Nose"/Stalag Luft III" with RAF colours and ""osephine My Flying Machine" also with RAF colours (go ahead and tell me if you have another opinion :) ). I did not check too good yet (haven´t received the declas - Kits World) so maybe Button Nose have Olive Drab over the old Invasion Stripes though..

But my point was, I mainly need "Olive Drab", for now, on the anti-glare panel on a few P-51Ds - what colour do I need then? I guess MRP-139? I might paint whole aircraft later and then it does not matter as much I think, with weathering, washes etc.. And maybe it does not here either - a small area, all seem decent colours..?

TBut that - and what the paint I had ordered, is for, would be very helpful. Maybe I need to buy some US tank now - to get to use that paint bottle?? ;)

PS I got a Luminous Yellow as a mistake in the order, instead of that MRP-234 - which I plan NOT to use for the anti-glare panel......

For 1/48 there is a nice decal set for both OD/NG and NMF

If you just google "Brasilian P47" several dozens of  photos appears

    Regards

Yes, I ordered that one from Hannants. :) Thanks! Great links

And pics of the enlarged 75 gal tank too. ^^

I have a book on Brazillian aircraft in WW2. I'll add some photos here shortly....

Cancel that - It was a book on Mexican WW2 aircraft and their P47s used in ww2,

If you don´t mind, show some? For me they feel the same-ish, as an ignorant Nordic dude.. A bunch of dudes from South America (well..) flying P-47s in Italy (?)..

I knew they did as well, just havemn´t checked them out - but would love to.

  7. Ah thanks. Hmm, mud and stuff yeah? :) Time to hone some weathering skills perhaps..?

Nice with the tubes, never used any of those ona  kit - this might be the best opportunity!

I read somewhere ona  decal sheet that some bird was an ex-Brazilian one (iirc) so seems like if they got used ones, they also handed them back.. I might be wrong though. Need to read more..

Not sure how accurate the markings are, but the Kiko/Revell P-47  had an NMF machine on the box - most attractive artwork IMHO!

There are a couple on that decal sheet I order, looking basically like that. Hold on!

    Edit: Here!

  8. Was browsing for nice 1/48 decals for a Tamiya Bubbletop I have.. I like quite a few but my favs were Out of Stock/Print.. In the end I ordered FCM´s (?) Brazilian P-47 decals..! Felt a bit interesting since I don´t really know much about them! And that is the question - what do I need to know?

What made me impulse buy the shher was the quite nice roundel and then green-yellow rudder. I really liked the look of it.. Them. :) Probably the overall green (Olive Drab?) more but the NMFs are sweet too. And the unit´s icon was pretty darned nice too!

Since i just recently read about those widened extra tanks made from 75 gallon ones - and that they are availble in resin, seems like a "must" - always interesting with unique things.. But what else should I know? Were they doing mostly ground attack missions - so I should perhaps bomb tit up?

What colours? Is it US colours - but then any tips for the green and yellow on the rudder? Well I guess the sheet will tell me but this project really made me happy. Felt very fresh, for me, with some non-US P-47 (though I love my US P-47s!)
