The 104 probably more than any other a/c epitomises the Cold War era and the Canadians had some of the best schemes IMO, your scheme being the last before withdrawal. A couple of good Videos on Youtube of Soelingen 104's from the mid 80s to inspire you if you havent already seen them.

1/48 Hasegawa F-104G Greek AF ++ Finished ++
Gary West replied to Lex77's topic in 80's NATO Europe vs Warsaw Pact GB
From the days of camouflage Looks like a good looking 104 -
In fact the upper inner wing section is MSG (Medium Sea....) and typical of all RAF a/c painted with a slight variation between Greys (does make you wonder why they do it then?) Phantoms, Tornado, Jaguar, Harrier etc once the a/c starts to slightly weather, the demarkation lines promptly fade and it often appears that there is no colour differentiation involved. Good job on your GB entry

MIG-25PDS "Hornet Killer" - Kittyhawk 1/48
Gary West replied to Pfeil's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I love that Ivan - Mig 25 over Mig 31 every time -
I use W&N now for all varnishes and regret not using them earlier. Once youve mastered the ratio to water you control the finish you get.

Shes a stunner John - enjoyable WiP too

1/48 - Douglas A-4 Skyhawk rumour by Kinetic
Gary West replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
but they can break it down into another 100 parts, increase the box size 2 fold and add a wonderful decal sheet - oh hang on, thats what Kinetic do to all their kits On a serious note, a "family" will at least possibly include the TA-4SU which isnt currently availabe straight from the box in 1/48 -
Yes in essence the yellow outer ring was dropped and the size of the roundals were reduced in size - it was still quite normal to see a good mix of old and new up until around 1986 though

AMK 1:48 Super Etendard - on hold. Do you still want it?
Gary West replied to Mike's topic in The Rumourmonger
Change the variant and switch to the lesser covered Etendard IVM/P -
Im a big French post war fan so this is within my area of interest. There are sooooo many variants of the same a/c from different manufactureres out there, F-16s epitomising this, and as modellers we all have our preference for choice be it detail, price, added extras etc. If AMK can bring to market a "Wow" SuE why not go ahead? Having said that, I doft my cap to Kinetic who looked at the market and identified gaps - Alpha Jet, Fouga Magister or identified areas where kits were in existence but were rather poorly executed shall we say, Sea Harrier, NF-5A for example. The market is crying out (well I am anyway) for a 2 seat Viggen, 2 seat Draken, a DECENT Hunter family, a Canberra family, Gannet AEW, 2 seat Harriers (yes I know Kinetic are on the case for the future) how about a Puma in 1/48, Tucano, what would the market do to get their hands on a good Fiat G-91, a new Mirage IV, Super Mystere, Mystere IV, Saab 105, Sud Vatour and dare I even mention the.............................. V word? (Vulcan) Of course these are my tastes and I appreciate that not all would sell as well as some others but the point is there is still such a large void still out there and needed by an appreciative modelling commiunity.

Kinetic 1/48 Sea Harrier FRS1
Gary West replied to Jabberwocky's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Yeah your pitot is sitting too high - the lower slice should sit into a corresponding slit on the nose- easily sorted and a good looking SHAR -
Got a fright there until I scrolled down and saw the 79 Sqn markings on your Hunter :-)

"new Stuff" just looks so unmilitary - the A330 is like any other commercial airliner, no noise, no smoke the new replacement for King Air (Phenom 100) and now these........ and how will we now tell if its an Essex Police 135 or an RAF one hovering over your house? -

Gary West replied to Calum's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Doesn't seem to be coincidense that these new generation kits that break down into so many parts offer the biggest challenge.....and frustration! Im just finishing Heller's Jaguar A and do you know, I would gladly swap my KH version for a Revell/Heller any day. This could be a 6-8 pager -
Easiest/cheapest 1/48 Marineflieger 104 & RNoAF 104 w/Penguins?
Gary West replied to RMP2's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Dont be daft, Im making a point that some like everything conveniently in one box and are prepared to pay through the nose for it whilst others dont even realise alternative options. What you are doing here is bang on the money, asking for options :-) Luckymodel are always worth an option - including postage to the UK £20.86 but looks like they are awaiting re-stock - other 104s on there too and cheaper! http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=HSG%2009365 -
