  1. A bit quiet on here today so a quickie picy of the underside which I sprayed yesterday. Got to keep this one going. Usually WiP threads are the kiss of death for me - I go right off the build in days after starting one.
  2. Basically the Phantom started its RAF service life as a Mud mover, but transitioned into an air defence fighter, different stores for different roles. When the Jaguar arrived in 1973, they stared to replace Phantoms in the ground attack role, freeing the Phantoms up to replace the Lightnings in the air defence role. So, no very doubtful that an aircraft would have carried TER's and AIM's in the same load - don't think it would have been necessary anyway, because they had 3 Sparrow missiles for self defence (given that the port forward would carry the strike camera), plus I don't believe the inner points could effectively do what the Tornado hard points do, and allow both to be carried together. But what Rich said is valid if you want to build a 92 sqn kite - this was an air defence squadron, so no bombs, TER's etc.
  3. Update - May Jaguar movements: 18th - 4 a/c depart for Shawbury 31st - 9 a/c depart for Shawbury 25th - 6 sqn disbandment Latest rumour suggest 2 aircraft will be given a retro tactical cam make over -
  4. Are we having a dedicated Cold war folder with a WIP & completed section? 40 mins to go chaps (& Jen) Good luck all.
  5. you at least saved those seats right?
  6. just found this too - the Grey looks great with the large day-glo numbers. We need a 2 seat conversion for the Viggen Viggen info
  7. The underside looks particularly good - detail I mean. Weird looking bird, looks like a cross between a Banshee and a Skyraider
  8. Right thats sorted. WTF does "dirth" mean - English please? She looks lovely in the splinter finish though. Check this out Mike - Pierro de Santis Viggen
  9. Saab Gripen - Cold war?
  10. Bombs possibly but 3 SNEB pods could be carried. I have quite a few reference photos of RAF Phantoms to back that up, It may be that for standard operational roles, 2 SNEB pods per TER were preferred (mine will only carry 2) but it looks like they could also carry 3 when they wanted/needed?
  11. You got the invasion stripes looking good Darren - nice work
  12. All hunter news lately - I see that there is a 3rd now on MOD duty - a 2 seater this time and another ex-Swiss model
  13. Have a shufti through Airliners.net - quite a few pics of D's there F4D's
  14. I did some spraying on the underside of my Phantom today and followed Nigels tip with the straw. It took some time, so I sucked it up instead and that sped the process up very nicely - Jobs oxo. Shame about the Grey teeth though
  15. Well early RAF Phantoms did carry TER's and I'm hoping they are the ones as supplied in the Hasegawa weapons set, cos that's what I'm using anyway. On my other computer I have a close up of a TER fitted on the F4J at Duxford. I'll try and post it for you later.
  16. did someone say Lightnings? Air-scene UK
  17. I know it's the same version and different scale, but does anyone have the C&H 2 seat conversion? It looks hot!
  18. In the last pic, you can just about make out what was either a canberra T4 or PR9 fuselage - there were both there at the time plus a T22. There was a Harrier GR3, Viscount and some tanks too. Remind me to tell you about the meeting with the big F off dog one day
  19. as promised a few more smashed Phantoms
  20. Sure are - nothing of the like there now sadly
  21. Its right on the A1. Not far from Lincoln, Grantham, Mansfield (?) - fantastic museum
  22. What and the Phantom is still serving 8 RAF front line squadrons you mean?
  23. Thanks Merv - even without a pic, if you looked into the rear end of the pod, what would you see? Is it just a series of holes where the rockets are placed? If so, any idea how many rockets can be loaded to max capacity?
