  1. Hi Graham, I have just sent you a PM. Here are a couple of shots from a follow up visit by EMA. This was a lousy winter...
  2. Thanks, Steve! You're very kind! I just sent you a PM. Cheers, Niki
  3. Indeed, the Airwaves resin nose I have seen online to produce very nice results. Unfortunately I couldn't find one anywhere to be available right now and, anyway, ebay history showed me one from a couple of months back to have sold for more than 16GBP plus P&P. While we're surely talking about a good-sized chunk of resin there, for me it would have meant spending some 22-24GBP to get that item alone, which is a bit steep. I have just missed a Hasegawa RF-101 for 21GBP (including P&P - a bid I had hoped would suffice) but have managed to obtain another 101B quite cheaply. I'll check how the surplus 101B nose looks grafted on the RF airframe and see from there further. I found Microscale decal set 72-223 to offer the scheme that got me interested in the single-seat radar-equipped Voodoo, so I am waiting for that one to arrive also (while keeping a bottle of Decal Film close by...). The Kittyhawk kit will most likely be a little jewel but since I am one of those that keep getting a shock by the sheer size of the 72nd scale kit every time the lid comes off the kit's box, the 48th one might be a tad to big for me (and my not-anymore-existing storage space ). Many thanks for all your ideas, guys! Cheers, Niki
  4. Ross, thank you for the details on the 'upgraded' kit! And David, I was indeed contemplating just the other day how to tackle the cannons - I shall go now raid the spares box for slat actuators Thank you both! Cheers, Niki
  5. Thank you very, very much for your input, guys! I already heard about the F-4 radome being mentioned and personally I immediately thought about using some scrap under wing fuel tank(s) like I did many years ago on a Kfir CE: I shall look at the Matchbox Voodoo also and see if I could find one and not break the bank Cheers!
  6. Hello G., Many thanks for taking the time to go over the exact kind of details I was after! Looking at the list now, I believe I am going to try and grab a Frog boxing (so it was the OTHER way round! ) for a good price - just for curiosity's sake - and turn it into an 101A/C and a "Sun-Run" combo for a camouflaged and one bare metal looking RF-101s. The 101Bs that I already have will end up as two Canadian and one What-If examples (for the latter I got inspired by this). Thanks again! Niki
  7. Hi everyone, I am currently on a Voodoo streak and would like to build a couple of F-101B interceptors as well as one (or two) RF-101C reconnaissance aircraft. These variants are covered by Revell and Hasegawa/ Frog respectively. Now, after spending quite a few hours in front of the computer there are a couple of issues that I hope some of you might help me clarify: 1. I always thought that the Hasegawa RF-101C kit is one and the same with the Frog one... Well, in a very nice article on Hyperscale someone commented that Hasegawa itself boxed two slightly different kits over the years so I am wondering: did they use the Frog kit at the very beginning and later (let's say the "Sun-Run" boxing) offered something different? Not too different from what I can gather but some tweaked panel line or camera opening?! 2. I ended up quite liking the silhouette of the F-101A/C single-seaters with their radome and everything... I know Airwaves did a resin nose for converting the RF-101 into an F-101A/C. However, as pleased as I am with the details on Revell's F-101B, the RF-101 kit(s) I find frustratingly dull and so the question here would be: aside from the two-seat cockpit and the different engines [exhausts] are the airframes of the F-101A/C and F-101B basically the same in terms of dimensions and cross sections? I thought about removing the plastic from the upper fuselage around the cockpit from an RF-101 and grafting it onto an F-101B, thus solving the single-seat canopy issue and retaining the wealth of surface details from the Revell kit in order to obtain a "genuine" F-101A/C. What do you reckon?
  8. Right from the moment RV announced the '21-series, I secretly hoped they'd get here! Let's hope [some more] that they will include all the LanceR specific airframe gear in the box
  9. That looks indeed great OOB! I can hardly wait to get a couple of these Magister/ Zephyr kits and one each of all your F.1 boxings!!!
  10. Thanks, Jessica! Lacking alternatives, I shall stock up on patience and keep an eye on ebay.
  11. Thanks, Chris! No idea where I could grab one, eh?
  12. Hi guys, The other day, due to low visibility at its destination airport, an Embraer 120 Brasilia of Air Moldova diverted to our little field. I was very happy with the way the pilots maneuvered the aircraft into the assigned parking stand [long story on local conditions...] and would really like to attempt building a scale replica of "Ema" I know of the Pas Models 1/144 kit which I'm sure looks very nice when completed, but since the actual aircraft is already tiny in its 1/1 guise is there perhaps an 1/72 kit that I could make use of? If so, any idea where to obtain one at this moment? Happy Holidays! Niki
  13. Looks very, very good! I am a fan of the 200 and must confess that I also remember the Matchbox nose looking bit worse than what you've shown us here In the end I gave in and ordered the Neomega conversion set. It's waiting patiently for me to gather enough guts to tackle it...
  14. My last buy from F-DCAL was the recent Air Koryo decal sheet for the Tu-134. I saw a couple of photo stories on North Korea and particularly on Air Koryo. I even went to lenghts to acquire a Pas Models Tu-204 and thought of combining that kit with part of this F-DCAL sheet. Now, before that, some one and a half years back I ordered a thick envelope containing several of their laser sheets (Airbus Iran Air, DC-8 Evergreen, Boeing 757 Icelandair,...). I can report that on the DC-8 sheet the black colour of the antiglare panel (part of the fuselage side decal) was peeled and smeared. Not being perhaps acustomed to laser decals, I found the printed artwork to be not exactly sharp (Icelandair and Iran Air). Finally, going through the stash a couple of weeks ago, I discovered that the decal film on the Iran Air sheet had started to peel of the backing paper (!). To conclude in a positive manner: I have seen enough finished models claiming to sport F-DeCALs and they looked lovely.
  15. http://hobbyterra.com/product/Eastern-Express-Kit-B-752-medium-range-airliner.html http://hobbyterra.com/product/1-144-scale-model-civil-airliner-b752-delta-eastern-express-14481.html I was actually asking myself if those latest boxings would fit better!? Anyway, shame on me for really liking those boxarts!
  16. Eastern Express, apparently, besides turning some Soviet subjects of their own, have been "heavily" inspired by: 1. Minicraft's Boeing 737 - to produce their own line of 737-300/ 400/ 500; 2. Revell's A320/ 319 (?) - to produce their A318 3. Minicraft's Boeing 757 - to produce their 757-300 and now 757-200. Parts are usually a bit more crude but the "heritage" is clearly there with visible seams in the plastic where they chopped/ added fuselage lenghts to get variation on the subject Cheers, Niki
  17. Ha, excellent intel! Thank you! On a similar note, I now remember reading somewhere of a Recce exercise in Europe also attended by a TARPS equipped F-14. Apparently Eagles were on the premises and scored many hits against all the poor recce birds. Well, actually against most poor recce birds because - as the Tomcat pilot was quoted: "The Eagles must have been in for a shock as they saw the prey suddenly come about and shoot them in the lips*." * not being a native English speaker, that last part of the quote did sound very funny to my ears and so I remember it exactly. Not willing to bet about the rest though...
  18. Useful review! Does anybody please know what the story with that silhouette/ kill mark beneath the Sundowners canopy is? From an exercise or something?
  19. Hi Richard, As a brush painter myself and having an Me-210 in the to-do pile... Cheers, Niki P.S.: very thin fishing line can also be used for making aerials
  20. Case study: Items bought at Modelsforsale in the UK. Shipped on Friday, March 1st. Arrived 2000 (two thousand) km away on Monday, March 4th Item bought at Hobbyterra in the Ukraine (always great service, by the way). Shipped on February 21st. Arrived 700 (seven hundred) km away on March 7th Question: where am I located*? No really, you should perhaps ask the seller if there isn't perhaps a Track & Trace number he can provide you with. I have a hunch that all int'l post form UR comes with that information. Then you can check online where your parcel might be. Cheers, Niki
  21. I must say I had my doubts about a four colour camo (thought that using the Su-35 three colour one was the way to go), but I very much like how it turned out
  22. Oh you... Good luck with your build, Mike!
  23. Thanks a lot, John! That's quite encouraging. I guess my biggest worry was the likely [too big a] difference in outline and dimensions between the nose sections of the real B2 and B(I)8. Those links you gave me will be put to good use for sure And by the way, your Canberras are stunning! Cheers, Niki
  24. Hi guys, I've tried my hand at the search function and ended up here I have a B2 (actually a B62) Canberra on my to do list and to this end I aquired the old Airfix B2 kit. Now, understanding that there are anyway a couple of outline issues with its nose section, please do tell me if I am completely wrong assuming that I could go ahead and try grafting the cockpit section (canopy) from the B2 to the fuselage of the newer Airfix B(I)8? I couldn't figure out by myself what the other external differences between the two marks are in outline and dimensions. Please help!
  25. Hi Seth, I'm unfortunately unable to provide you with a precise source right now, but I seem to remember that the colour on the Su-47 was said to be some sort of very dark blue* Anyway, save for the scale effect and that sort, black is also the first thing that comes to my mind when I look at a picture of that airplane. But a camoulflaged example (a la Su-35) wouldn't look bad either, so go for it! * I shall try and see if I can find a reference on that blue...
