1/72 Grumman F-14D Tomcat by Fine Molds / Model Graphix
niki replied to 172flogger's topic in The Rumourmonger
It's not that I wouldn't have anything to attach to those pylons (over the years I amassed about all Hasegawa Weapons Sets among other spare stuff), but as excited I was at the beginning, this latest [extra] marketing stunt has made me wonder: - One [however nice, other] Tomcat which I wouldn't be able anyway to build with all those panels open (matter of personal option) or... - FIVE (!) Skyline Boeing 737s? ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Yeah, I know now http://boeing737.skyrock.com/ No, that's not me, but what I would feel like with some five more DACO kits in my stash Bottom line for me: would Mr. Suzuki (I know he's FM not Model Graphix) have stuck with its three originally announced magazine editions (or even four issues of the same magazine, each at the same corresponding price), I would have bought the product (I was a week away from sorting out the payment). I am aware of the subjective nature of my reaction, but this latest crossover move and slight jump in price proved to be one step too much for my taste, so, unfortunately, no Tomcat for me. Shouldn't affect overall sales [too] much, I reckon Cheers, Niki- 123 replies

Yes, I have an Overtrees box myself and for the second example I shall most likely go for a Weekend Edition box. No more Overtrees available anymore from Eduard I reckon... Cheers, Niki

Thank you very much for the heads up, Robert! On the issue itself, for me it all starts getting somewhat ridiculous...- 123 replies

Yes, the badge of Flotila 86 at Borcea, Fetesti (currently detached at Mihail Kogalniceanu, on the Black Sea coast, whilst Borcea is being upgraded for F-16 use) was the first to adorn a line LanceR. Then came the blue Transylvania (Siebenbürgen - Seven Castles/ Towers/ Towns) badge of the 71st (!) AB. I would bet that there were in time variations of the exact shade of blue as the aircraft went through overhaul, with some shields painted in a brighter blue and others in a darker blue. What appears on the decal sheet is most likely a boo-boo, but I would very much like to be proven otherwise. As an aside: you noticed the different outline of shields between the 86th a the 71st. Well, after the appearance of the 71st badge, the 86th one - as featured on this sheet - kinda disappeared making way for another one, contoured just like the blue shield: Signs of conformity, although it tended to 'peel off' rather quickly from the planes and most pilots tending to go around their business still wearing the yellow-only badge: http://www.resboiu.ro/boboc-2013-mig-ul-21-lancer-numarul-6824/

Giorgio, I really wouldn't know what to tell you regarding any reinforcement plates on the wings. From looking at pictures of the real thing...: http://bias.aero/wp-content/gallery/airshow2011/mig-21-lancer-c_codrut-bratosin_170710_1.jpg http://cdn1.airplane-pictures.net/images/uploaded-images/2012/4/1/199533.jpg ...I cannot notice anything else other than what is shown in the instructions: There is that 'thing' [some sort of ducting] at the upper right wing root (which I now see as marked "Not included" ) but I am not aware of any other modifications (?). As far as the colour of the coat of arms goes, it can get quite dark depending perhaps on lighting conditions and picture settings, but surely also because of a bit of a chaos concerning the use of paint in the Romanian military (have a look at the various schemes worn by LanceR A aircraft during their active time: "whatever was available"...): source and other pics of the 71st AB: http://romanian-spotters.forumer.ro/t166p180-campia-turzii-baza-71-aeriana-lrct That being said, even with the naked eye it is indeed very difficult to make out a difference on the decal sheet between the black digits and whatever the colour of the unit emblem is. However dark, it should in essence be a shade of blue... I don't know if the guys simply tried to use one less colour at the printer to save on costs or if this is precisely what they were going for and it all ended a bit too dark!? Price wise, you're riight, Larry: it's not cheap. Some of you might be in a better position than me to judge if the whole package is its money worth or not. I am not accustomed to spending that much on aftermarket and committed to the purchase only because the LanceR is [somewhat, admittedly] Romanian and I also have this stupid idea of trying to motivate local model manufacturing initiatives by giving away my money The two MiGs I have in mind would sometime in the future take center stage on my shelves, so... On the issue of availability, do give the guys a buzz (there is a contact form on their webpage) to find out about specific time frames. It may very well be that the product is in stock and the webpage is not updated or that a new batch will be ready shortly... Cheers, Niki

Hi there, Some of you might remember LCAerodesign from their 1/48 IAR-81 and 1/32 Extra 300 kits. They have now released a conversion set in 1/48th scale allowing you to turn the Eduard MiG-21MF into a LanceR upgrade. The set contains the necessary bits and pieces, starting with the cockpit (there's a complete cockpit supplied, minus the ejection seat, which apparently has nothing special in comparison to a standard KM-1 as found on the classic MiG-21 and found in the Eduard kit as such), continuing with the various antennae (comm, RWR), other lumps and bumps and finishing with a nice decal sheet and a painting mask (for the roundels and aircraft reg.) should you consider paint would look better than decals in this scale (?): So, if you fancy, like every other item coming from LCAerodesign, this set can be purchased directly from the source. I bought a couple of these thinking to build a LanceR C (as directly possible from this set) and a LanceR A (delete the right hand MFD from the instrument panel and get some decals from Linden Hill or Parcmodels). Cheers, Niki

Any updates on international (especially E.U.) availability of this kit? Given a force majeure I am willing to make an order directly in Turkey, but for anything bigger than a decal sheet I would rather avoid it - there is no way around a couple of telephone conversations, e-mail exchanges, payment documents presentation (!) and at least one visit to the local customs office for even the smallest parcel coming from outside the E.U. ... And all this while on a sunny day, if I take a good long look, I can catch a glimpse of Turkey Ok, ok, there are a couple of hundred miles more than that, but still...

From where I'm standing, this may be your best modelling effort so far, Ken! Great finish, subtle weathering and nice water surface P.S.: I wonder what would have happened to that bucket underneath in real life, with all those lift engines on...!?

Turkish Air Force KT-1 Woongbee stencil and unit insignia details required

Just to add a tad to the translation work above , here is the English part of the subject a bit more clearer: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sonofbearland/8639694007/sizes/o/ So, "4.6m" on stretching the cable all the way. Or better still: "4.6M" on the Turkish machines -

Turkish Air Force KT-1 Woongbee stencil and unit insignia details required
niki replied to AmaruTG's topic in Aircraft Modern
Hi, Maybe a Turkish colleague or simply someone who has managed to get face-to-face with the machine can deliver a "good quality" picture, but until then here are a couple of pics confirming the dual language layout. You can clearly make out the English instructions, although one would be left a bit puzzled as to the Turkish wording... Unless one would speak the language, of course - then one could "fill in the blanks" https://www.flickr.com/photos/warthog-1/6812500031/sizes/o/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/warthog-1/6812500023/sizes/o/ Cheers, Niki L.E.: you can see there Scorpion badge also. -

Did contacting those guys yielded anything? I am "fighting" right now through customs a simple kit delivered from outside the E.U. and would very welcome an opportunity (even coming with a surcharge) to be able to get those three magazines from somewhere inside the Union...- 123 replies

The extra bits give it that special something! Well done there (canopy, inlets, exhausts, everything!) I'm more than curious to see how the announced HB/Trumpeter release will make the old Italeri kit look...

Oh... I really hoped it would be an April fools' day thing! More expenses coming up...

Yeah, Broplan does indeed offer some unique subjects. In this case, the closest one could come to the here described item are a couple of vacform Piper PA-31s Navajo/ Chieftain, unfortunately.

Hello everyone, I have this buddy with a connection [by some lengths] to this aircraft: The challenge is to find a 72nd scale kit and build it as such. We know of a Gremlin Models release from some time ago but haven't come much further trying to locate one. Are there any other kits out there of the PA-42, whatever the scale and medium? Any input would be much appreciated. Cheers, Niki

niki replied to 172flogger's topic in The Rumourmonger
Yes, I got so excited on reading the news about this new release that I couldn't resist and sent a message on the availability of the magazines to HLJ myself. The quickest and nicest reply came back just a moment ago: So, perhaps get the first issue delivered alone and then get the final two together...!? Although, depending on appearance dates, theoretically one could squeeze in three issues in 60 days (first issue DAY 1, second issue DAY 31, third issue DAY... 60 ). Ok, enough smart@**, now it's on to the Treasury to get the budget approved- 123 replies

Please, keep us posted on the "special order 3 in 1" issue. Receiving even the slightest bigger-than-a-postcard item from outside the EU has [mostly] turned into an "guilty upon proven innocent" affair with the customs authorities of this dear country of mine lately... I hate thinking of having to go three times to the post/ customs office P.S.: I absolutely love the inclusion of a positionable refueling probe!!!- 123 replies

I managed to get one a couple of months ago (at some expense, I might add ) because of an article I read in some Key Publishing magazine dealing with the UAE Air Force. I also got inspired by Mike's Kinetic build here on the forums, but thought that 48th scale is a number too big for me. Anyway, better chances of scoring a lower price in the 1/48th category than finding [and willing to pay for] a Hasegawa 72nd scale example Anyway, can I be of any assistance regarding this kit?
