  1. Shipmates

Building the 1/32 Tamiya kit, instructions call for a white jet pipe for the ceramic coating but googleing
shows quite a variations between full ceramic and ceramic in the nozzle only.
Which is accurate for the CJ?

    Thanks muchly in advancement.

  2. I've put up a new overtime roster for my idiots.

It has very simple instructions, put your name down for the days your available and I'll let you know if its approved.

Most of them are still standing there staring at it with a look of primordial stupidity

This shows the importance of getting expert knowledge involved in kit design! I really enjoyed the CA Sea Venom (it's my favourite aircraft!), but I've not got an in depth knowledge about the details.

At the risk of thread drift, ARE you aware if PR are continuing their Sea Venom?

No idea, I haven't had any contact with them since the above mentioned.

P'raps we should order more goats? 🐐🐐🐐🗡️

  4. The CA Vampire is ok aside from the normal short run kit issues. However there are some oddities like the starboard boom stub is cockeyed putting the whole boom out of true.

Not a simple fix either. The canopy is dodgy and doesn't fit well but the biggest issue for me is it tries to be too many things.

The export boxing has a RAAF T-35 (Which it isn't) and a RAN T.22 (Which it most certainly isn't) As a T.11 its ok but it misses everything that is particular to the other variants.

Its much better shape wise than PR.

Aeroclub was superb but its a vac and long out of production so not really relevant to this discussion.

CA's Sea Venom is woeful. Its comes with the decal options for a 21, 22 and 53 and the parts to build none of the above.

The supplied cockpit is pure FAW.20 but you can build one of those because the forward fuselage is very different and they didn't have bang seats. No cockpit bits for the other Marks so

your on your own there. Annoyingly the FAW.53 option is for "my" WZ.897.

There's a lot of stupid issues on the airframe that some simple research would have avoided and the rear tail cone is pants.

I offered to owner access to my collection in preparation for this kit but the response I got made me wonder if the chap had forgotten his medication.

One can only sacrifice the odd goat or two to the modelling Gods and pray a certain English purveyor of plastic finery delivers us from the de Havilland wasteland.

If anyone from Pilot Replicas reads this,  they should be aware that there are plenty of very knowledgeable enthusiasts who will off help and information, hint for the Venom, ask @NAVY870  Steve has assisted Airfix in the past IIRC

    They did.

And I answered all their requests including setting up 897's tail cone in my garage and building up a dimensional map of it, a week or so's work just for that bit.

Sometime after I was politely informed the project had been dropped. Annoyed doesn't really cover it.

I'd have probably helped PR (with grumbling and gritted teeth) if they asked, they knew we had a couple of Vamp's (F.30 & T.22)

I help Airfix because they are the gold standard in manufacturers to work with along with Dora Wings. There's a resident short run chap here too who's no slouch.

  6. If anything the errors are more glaring in the review. I cant agree with the Bosses comments, these aren't minor or easily fixed in any way shape or form.

The fuselage is too fat, glaringly so. The wing aerofoil section is wrong, the leading edge curve starts above the intake, not inline with it.

I'll wait in hope that Airfix does one.

I've got a few Vampire manual including deHavs structural repair manual. If I can get it apart without trashing it (Its a 1952 edition) I'll post the relevant diagrams
