Update from last night's work. Here is the hull in black primer. After a couple of coats of Tamiya dark yellow Turret and other parts were also given a good coating of dark yellow Aber's muzzle brake looks very nice under a coat of paint Painting is going well at the moment but the size of this thing makes it a handful to paint. I'm using Tamiya acrylics for the exterior as they dry quickly to a hard finish. Not sure how well Vallejo would stand up to the amount of handling required. I will be lightening the dark yellow tonight by adding some buff and white to the mix. Hoping to also get the masking for the camo done and the first coats of red brown on. Cheers Matt

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement chaps. Really hoping to make significant progress this week. I'm aiming to get the main camo on the hull, turret and gun done over the next couple of days. Wheels and tracks will come later. I've given it a black base coat first which went on last night, hoping to get the dark yellow on tonight. I'm just praying that I did a solid masking job!

Hi guys, Finally got back to working on this. Construction is now pretty much complete. The rear deck complete, Aber aeriel added and the tow cable built Muzzle brake complete Gun mantlet was given some cast texture with mr surfacer Tow shackles and the joining strips for the fenders were added. I've added some light damage to the fenders but may revise this before painting Finally, everything was disassembled, cleaned and masked up, ready for paint. I'm hoping to get the first primer coats on tonight Sorry about the photos, had to use my phone. Cheers Matt

Trumpeter 1/16th JagdTiger

Thanks for posting up the instructions Julian. Looks like they have recycled the KT parts for most of the hull and engine bay. A little disappointing in my opinion, would of been nice if Trumpeter had given them an update. Looks like the case mate, gun and ammunition are very nicely done though. Should build up very nicely -

Cheers Julian. Ah yes, those vinyl hoses. The single pieces aren't too bad but they can be difficult to clean up. It's the 2 part hoses that may drive you insane! I'm sure they can be made to look decent but I found it easier to just replace them. -

Cheers for the insight into the kit, looking forward to seeing the build. I'm still holding fire on this until I see the parts that are common to the both the Jadgtiger and King Tiger. Trying to keep my rivet counter hat off but I would be disappointed if Trumpeter haven't updated any of those parts. Very curious to see the main gun and ammo, I bet that's going to look very impressive! Does the kit come with those vinyl hoses or have trumpeter seen sense and molded them in plastic? -

Good stuff, will you be showing the build on the forum? Oh yeah, did you finish the panzer IV? Not sure if I missed the RFI -
The turret roof is a separate part so it can be left unglued to show off the turret interior. The hull roof isn't removable but the forward transmission cover and engine deck pieces are separate parts. Leave them unglued and you will get a decent view of the hull interior when the turret is removed, like the Trumpeter 1/16 kit. You could cut open the hull yourself but the kit hasn't been designed for it.

Received my Porsche turret kit today and I've got to same I'm rather impressed! Looks like Takom did their research and for the most part, got it right. There are a couple of disappointing errors / design decisions but this has got to be one of the most complete interior kits you can buy. I don't think you will regret picking this one up guys

That's a beauty, cracking work!

The 3 prototypes didn't have zimmerit but I doubt this kit will be based on them as there were many differences. I guess some people still prefer to apply their own zimmerit.

Some more pics. Difficult to tell if it's 2 or 3 tone camo. The bottom two photos seem to show 3 colours -
Great recovery Dan, almost looks like you never painted it the first time.

I can see how easy it is to get carried away. I started out on my 1/16 KT in a similar vein as the person you mention, adding lots of small details that most people will not even notice or will be impossible to see on the finished model. Eventually I gave up on that and started only detailing parts that can be seen, otherwise I doubt it I would ever finish it. I think it’s a very personal thing when it comes to super detailing. I’m at a point where I can’t build anything oob anymore. I always seem to add or correct something but that’s just my personal preference. The chap you mention is maybe thinking that once the model is complete, he will know that it is as close to the real thing as possible. Nothing wrong with that, although adding individual casting marks to each track link sounds like self imposed torture to me! One other thing I sometimes consider is the cost per hour for each model. If I spend time scratch building parts, adding weld seams etc, the model takes much longer to complete. I feel I get a better detailed model and better value for money that way. Not sure if it’s not just me trying to justify the expense though!

Thanks chaps Thankfully my wife was a little more understanding than that!

Thanks chaps I ended up using loctite super glue on the rubber hoses. Normal glue seems to have no effect on them. I replaced as many of them as possible with scratch built items as working with them was such a pain No sure what possessed Trumpeter to provide these parts in rubber! Cheers Matt

Thanks for the info Phil, will keep this in mind when I get to the weathering stage

I was referring to both. The bare metal looks very convincing Thanks Matt

Cracking work Julian, all coming together rather nicely indeed.

That's come out very very well Phil. The chipped zimmerit looks great I really like the slight metallic sheen you have added, how did you do that? Hope the paint job on mine comes out as good! Cheers Matt

Thanks very much for the kind comments chaps. Just got back from holiday so hopefully I will be getting going again this week I'd be pretty chuffed if someone approached me to display it! I'd certainly consider it, although after spending so long on it, I think i'd miss it ha ha

Thanks for all the kind comments guys. No progress to report, home improvements and holidays have put things on hold for a while

Yeah, best to keep that can of worms shut! I think what I'm trying to say is that this subject could be debated until the end of time and we still wouldn't have a definitive answer. Really, there are only a handful of remaining examples left out of thousands built, so how can anyone be 100% sure? Besides, there are far more important things in life than pondering over perfect colour matches and paint jobs! I wouldn't change anything about your build, it looks great, and that's what matters. Really looking forward to your build of the Jagdtiger
