  1. It's not raising my hackles Fred. Every time a group build theme is suggested a number of people pop and say why don't we do such and such to the extent that the original idea becomes completely diluted. Focus is lost and you might as well say 'build anything you like lads'. peebeep
  2. Yes. Even with the dodgy stuff, once it's set you can still buff it up. peebeep
  3. Metalcotes spray fine with white spirit or cellulose, the latter will disperse the particles more effectively and give you a good 'bite' onto the painted surface. Brush painting is possible, but overcoating is virtually impossible due to the second coat lifting the first. One way round this is to use a coat of Klear between Metalcote coats. The aluminium colours work best over a light grey undercoat and may only require a single application of Metalcote, but it is essential to stir the Metalcote frequently. Recent batches of Polished Steel and Gunmetal have been pretty useless and very difficult to work with, the particles tending to coagulate at the drop of a hat regardless of thinners being used. I've found that is is still possible to spray them if you give them a stir, let some of the gunge settle then decant the thin liquid off the top. Brushing is also possible with a well loaded brush, one stroke only and don't attempt to overcoat. Lousy QC and really we should all send back dud tinlets and complain like hell. peebeep
  4. Looks fine to me. Awaiting further installments with great interest! Thanks for posting Ted. peebeep
  5. If you have a close look at S-Sugar in the RAF Museum you will find that there's no indication whatsoever that it was fitted with fuselage glazing, no outline of the oval shaped aperture, nothing. peebeep
  6. Not if he's using Tamiya, it is spirit based. Not all acrylics are compatible with H2O. peebeep
  7. Games Workshop white in rattle cans is an excellent primer coat for any pale colour. peebeep
  8. The first law of drawings - never put a scale rule near them! peebeep
  9. The Matchbox Mossie compares pretty favourably with published drawings and personally I can't see that there's any major outline errors or anything wrong with the wings/wing location. peebeep
  10. The basic outlines are all there, but the kit lacks detail and refinement. The nose glazing for the bomber versions lacks curvature on the upper surface and the canopy bulges are 'off' although not too bad in appearance once stuck on. The cockpit is devoid of detail, the engines are a bit 'soapy' and lacking in definition. The props require replacement, but paddles from an Airfix kit fit OK. The undercarriage is rudimentary and is missing the complex tubular arrangement that closes the doors when wheels are selected 'up'. Again, a spare Airfix set would fit the bill. To be more positive it is pretty regular Matchbox fare that with a measure of TLC can be worked up into a reasonable replica and they are cheap enough to buy. Matchbox on the left. Didn't have any spare props or undercarriage from an Airfix kit at the time. peebeep
  11. David, PM me an e-mail address and I can forward some drawings to you. They won't furnish the complete answer but I think you will find them helpful. peebeep
  12. No pain, no gain! I'll finish my one, one day! peebeep
  13. Not until next month at the Yeovilton show, assuming they're on display there. peebeep
  14. Can do custom serials and codes for anybody that's experiencing difficulty finding what they want elsewhere. You will need to supply me with sufficient references to see what's what and you will also need to arrange your own printing. peebeep
  15. I have some decals and a Revell Escort But I'll have to get a move on to beat you to it! peebeep
  16. Sorry Matt, but no. Keep an eye out on the Airfix website if you're keen, that's where we're most likely to find out initially. I'll leave the wings question to any resident SHAR Tifosi. peebeep
  17. That is not the case, further to the discussion I had with Trevor last weekend. peebeep
  18. I've posted these elsewhere, but here you are: peebeep
  19. I've done some custom letters and numerals for Tony, let him have a look to see whether or not he thinks they're OK. peebeep
  20. My information is that they won't (along with decalised panels). It is not within the perceived philosophy for what are considered 'entry level' kits. peebeep
  21. Not me guv, that's just a vicious rumour people have been spreading around... peebeep
  22. Actually, I wasn't looking that closely! peebeep
