  1. That’s a great looking model for your first airbrush attempt. I have struggled for a long time with airbrushing until I recently bought a Harder & Steenbeck Ultra airbrush. It’s a dual action airbrush designed for beginners and it has made airbrushing a pure joy. I have an Iwata rev Cr airbrush that I struggled with for years as I couldn’t get to grips with the dual action. The design of the H&S ultra is the work of genius. The only other things I can suggest is a mix of at least 50% thinners or more. Never less. I also just use Tamiya xf paints and their own brand of thinners for spraying. I also drop in 10% of tamiya paint retarder too, though I think it is mainly designed to improve how their paint goes on with a brush. Strangely their paints spray beautifully but are horrible to brush coat with. No matter how much you thin some other brands and varnishes, they just don’t spray and clog up the tip. Ps Thanks for the tip on the tamiya laquer thinners. I will give it a go. I have a spray booth and a proper cartridge mask so hopefully won’t gas myself.
  2. Those are two really lovely phantoms. Like the coffee cup warmer tip too 👍
  3. Fantastic models. I can definitely remember building the jagdpanther when I was a youngster, bought from my local petrol station! A lot of modern manufacturers could learn a thing or two from these old mouldings about how to make modelling fun. I also love how the weathering has been kept to a minimum but they look just right. Something to think about for the Tamiya JS2 I am building at the moment. Many thanks for sharing Alan
  4. That’s really very nice. I live in Lisburn and have seen the full size plane on a visit to U.A.S. myself a few years ago. After that I have always wanted to build a model of the “Portmore” Wildcat and you have done a fantastic job. On a separate note I work for the Environment Agency and members of my team take a water sample from Portmore Lough every month via an inflatable boat. I don’t build a lot of models but any I build usually have a personal attachment behind them so this should really be top of my to-do-list. Thanks Alan
  5. Wow! I have the Tamiya F-14A in the stash but I don’t think my skills are ready to do it justice yet, unlike yours
  6. That’s very nicely done. Can’t beat a B-17F. This kit had been on my radar for a while and you have shown how good a result you can get.
  7. Thanks for the kind replies. Yeah, I don't know why Tamiya experimented with this scale but then gave up. All I know is that while it says Tamiya on the box, the fit was awful and detail was non-existent. However I am very pleased at how it came out so I can't complain. To be honest even though I tried throughout the build to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, I always managed to turn it around and make an improvement. This build really had a charmed life and I literally felt I couldn't go wrong. It's a dead cert that my next build is heading for the bin at the first stage. I think I used up all my luck with this one.
  8. Hi all, I always wanted an Intruder on shelf after the seeing the film "Flight of the Intruder" and then more recently reading the book. The Tamiya kit is from 1969 but has markings that are close enough to the film to make "Devilfish 508". Size comparison with a 1/72 Spitfire Ps I had to buy a second kit as I messed up a couple of decals (A new kit is only a fiver with postage). The first person to PM me with their address can have it free of charge. All that will really be missing are the stars and bars for the underside and topside of the wings. Thanks Alan
  9. Andy, I can’t thank you enough for the information you have provided on my mum’s cousins Lanc. It will mean an awful lot to her I am sure. It is all very much appreciated and goes to prove what a wonderful and special resource the Britmodeller Forums truely are. I now plan on picking up an Airfix Lanc at some stage in the near future. Alan
  10. Lovely build and an even better story. My mum’s cousin was a gunner in a 7 sqdn Lancaster that was shot down in January 44 and I would love to build a model of his plane myself. When I do I hope it turns out to be half as good as yours.
  11. That’s fantastic. I am in a middle of a stalled build of this kit. The Bronco aftermarket tracks have sapped my will to live. Each track link has 6 parts! How did you do the excellent Vietnam dust effect? I have some AK Vietnam earth pigment sitting ready to go and would be very happy if it turned out half as good as your weathering
  12. That’s very nice indeed. My mum is from Armagh so I had always wanted to build this kit with the same decal option as you went for. Unfortunately the odd shaped spinner has always put me off it.
