X-Wing Miniatures Tantive IV
directorcass replied to directorcass's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
I'll post some new pics tonight, but I scratch built most of the bridge last night and this morning. Have an idea for a lighted stand up map like this for the bridge as well. Smaller, but same type of thing. If my idea works, I'll share it here. -

I used to have that and the Nichimo 1/24 kit, never built either of them and wound up selling them years ago. Got the last coats of white on the body this weekend. I'll wait for it gas out for a few days and then squirt the clear stuff. Really love this kit and can't wait for the street version! -
Star Wars new model kits from Bandai
directorcass replied to Despy's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
We have to remember, these kits are made for the Japanese market, not the US, UK, etc. In Japan, they prefer smaller kits due to the typically smaller living spaces. Although on occasion they do produce some impressively huge kits. Keep your hopes up, I'm sure we will get bigger kits out of them. -

Apparently I'm a noob here, LOL. Could a Moderator move this thread to the WIP section? -
Well, while waiting for warmer weather and parts to arrive for another project I figured I would start on this, the all new tool from Fujimi, James Bond's Lotus sub car from The Spy Who Loved Me. Its a simple curbside (seaside?) kit with a basic tub interior. All the parts are crisply molded in various colored plastic. The body and window louvers are very nice. All lights are clear lenses with separate chrome buckets. Door panels are molded in place and are the only low spot in the kit, lacking detail. Fujimi has also announced there will be a street version released later this month, probably not as a Bond car though. Got most of the body assembled and primered and the first few coats of white laid down. Primer- Base white applied-

Here is an update. My caster is almost done casting up my clear nozzles! The clear resin is taking longer to cure than he expected. We have nine nozzles done, 6 to go. Here's sending me some extras in case I knacker a few. -

Just got an update from my resin caster. He is almost done casting up all eleven engines. He can only do 4 at a time. He has 9 done so far. Hope to see them soon. -
They all have the cut out and a clip.

Its a fairly easy kit to light, it only has 11 engine lights and a cockpit. You could grab those from modeltrainsoftware.com and run them all on one 9v battery. I think I may add a few navigation lights/strobes just to give the ship some visual interest. -

O.K. here is where it stands. I have split the hull halves. This was a scary process! You need to remove the two round caps on each side of the bridge module first and the ones mid ship as well. The hull sides do not seem to be glued, just male/female lugs inside the hull. As I pried them apart I slid scissors inside and nipped away at the lugs. The engines have been removed and drilled out on each end for lighting. I opened up one nozzle which took about two hours. I wont be doing the rest as I am having clear cast resin replacements being cast as we speak. We also have a quick lighting test with a red LED. They will be yellow when the ship is done. The cockpit window was also opened up for a soon to come scratch built cockpit interior. From this- To this! -

I managed to get the hull halves apart last night. Holy Crap, that was scary as..... I'll post some pics tonight. The side engine pods, the ones with the square mounting lugs are being a pain. I can't break them free no matter what!!! -

I have no need for the paper goods that my ship came with. I don't know anyone who plays and I have too many hobbies to add another! I may offer them for sale on one of the FB game sites. -

Just remember, these are NOT model kits. They are pre-built and pre-painted miniatures for the game X-Wing Miniatures. They are NOT screwed together like a toy, they are glued with an industrial strength glue or cyanoacrylate. To take one of these apart you basically have to "break" it apart. I do not recommend anyone do this if you do not have the skills to fix potential, and likely, damage to your model. Ill post some pictures tonight of what I've done so far. -
Here's a link directly to Tony's parts for the Bandai Falcon. He makes parts for all the available kits I think, including the big Hasbro toy!! Tony's parts are first class and accurate. I'm using a few of his parts on my own Bandai Falcon. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/308bits?section=Falcon+Banday&s=0

Ferrari is now a public company all unto its own. They have completely spun off from Fiat/Chrysler. http://www.motortrend.com/news/ferrari-has-officially-separated-from-fiat-chrysler-automobiles/ This could get interesting for modelers....

My SW Bandai Builds-so far
directorcass replied to directorcass's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
Thanks guys. Yes, I do my own lighting. I can't afford those pre-made kits out there. I learned to solder long ago when I raced RC cars back in the 80's (gold tub RC-10!). I buy LEDs in bulk from eBay a lot and from Modeltrainsoftware.com. They sell pre-wired LEDs with resistors in all different styles and colors from regular 5mm all the way down to pre-wired SMT LEDs! Not the cheapest way to go but the convienance of not having to solder resistors and LEDs, especially SMT's outweighs the cost. They run about $2.50- $3
