Thanks guys! More updates coming this weekend. Very cool little kit! -
Yeah....I went from lighting a 3 foot Galactica to a 4 inch SD! Talk about extremes! So I had a bunch of left over .25mm fiber optic. Needed to do something with it. After seeing Dorobou's fantastic SD I decided I'd try my hand at lighting it. He used clear resin cast parts, mine is more traditional, with fibers. Still, major headaches. I started by gluing some pieces together so I could hollow them out to make room inside. I cut out a good portion of the upper hull, under the super structure to open it up. My plan is to terminate the fibers inside the super structure so they are "pointing" at a single diffused white LED, as opposed to running fiber to a tube and gluing said tube to an LED like normal. The hardest part so far was modifying the neck to get the fibers from the bridge down to the hull. Lots of grinding inside the bridge did take place. Anyhoo, here are some pictures to show where I am at so far. Should be able to finish this up in a week. Trenches drilled out. Super structure glued together and hollowed out. Fibers run. Hull opened up for access. Modified bridge neck and bridge fibered up! Super structure windows.

Thanks! I prefer the original series as well. This is my Holy Grail kit. -
In memeory of the creator of Battlestar Galactica, Glen A. Larson, and other memorable shows from the 70-80's, I named this ship the Battlestar Larson. Glen passed away Nov. 14th 2014. This is the completed build of the excellent Mike Salzo 1/2 studio scale kit. It's 37.5 inches long, weighs 19 pounds, has over 300 windows lit by 150 feet of .5mm fiber optics. Powering the lights and the engines are a total of 53 LEDs.

Here is a quick walk around showing where I am at with the lighting. Getting very close to the end. View My Video My unfinished Anigrand SD gave up its antennas and gun batteries to the Galactica. Salzo on the left, Anigrand SD on the right. It just has much more detail. The guns will be modified a bit to represent the actual Galactica guns. And a nice shot of the engines!! -

A few more lighting tests. Starting to look good! Also, a picture on how I did the engine lights. Engine lights. Tamiya paint cap, 12 LEDs in total. It has 8 flickering blues and 4 steady whites in the center. Short video of the engines being tested... View My Video She's almost ready for paint! -

Thanks. Yes, it's a big kit but loads of fun to work on! I used my Dremel to do all the windows and a .5mm bit. The bridge is 3D printed and came printed with the holes already there. I was going to use the Tamiya drill pictured above, but it just did not have the torque to drill thru the thick resin. It would be fine for plastic though. -

Thanks! That's the bridge. I used GO2 glue to secure all the fibers. See pic below. It's almost like a clear flexible silicon. Works real well. The black stuff is actually Tulip brand puffy fabric paint. It's like a real thick acrylic paint. Great for filling small gaps, can be sanded when dry, and is also great for light blocking small areas. -

All the fiber work is done. 300+ windows. Both .5mm and .25mm fiber was used. Fibers are all bundled up and trimmed. Now to install the electronics!! Bridge with .25mm fiber. -

Got some more work done on the Big Girl. Starting to run fibers in the head. Got the gap under the bridge squared away with Aves epoxy. More fibers to run and then even more fibers to run!!!
