  1. I just finished building the AT-AT, fantastic kit!
  2. Thanks guys. Taking a break from the SD as I need to buy fiber. But being out of work for recovery I have no money to buy any. So, it's put up and I pulled out my Bandai AT-AT.
  3. Thanks, getting stronger every day. My surgeon said he has never seen anyone recover as quickly as I have so far.
  4. Fantastic pictures gimme shelter! Enjoying your Cooper build log. Sadly, progress on mine has slowed as I had a heart attack 2.5 weeks ago along with a 7 artery open heart bypass. Slowly getting back into it though.
  5. Here is the finished 1/2700 Falcon. It's so hard to get any clear pictures of it! The engines are not as bright in person, it's much more realistic. And yes, light is shining through the canopy as well. Officially the smallest model I have ever lit!!!!
  6. Ah, very cool pictures. Would love to see more of them here.
  7. Thanks, I can't see them here at work, but will check them out when I get home tonight!
  8. Finished up the Tantive IV this morning. Again, what an awesome little model it is! And all lit up! Now on to finish the lighted Falcon!
  9. Thanks guys. I'll have more to post over the next few days. Not sure what size the LEDs are, but yeah, they are TINY. Soldering up a few is not bad, doing many would try my patience! I use the squeeze to open pointy tweezers to hold them while I solder.
  10. So I picked up from Age of Plastic on Shapeways his Tantive and two pack of Falcon's. Thanks to Shapeways, they actually sent me three Falcons and then the Mouse slammed his fist down and the Falcons got removed from the site. I think mine were the last to make it out alive. The Tantive is a marvel of miniature 3D printed engineering being design to be lit. And that's what I did. Each engine tube is hollow to accept 1mm fiber. The main body of the ship is also hollow to run a 1mm fiber up to the open cockpit window. To light this little beastie I solder up two Pico LEDs and glued them back to back. The forward facing LED would light the fiber for the cockpit and the rear facing would light the 11 fibers for the engines. Each of these fibers were mushroomed and then pushed into the engines. I gave the rear LED a few coats of Tamiya clear Yellow. This will be mounted on the base with the Zvezda giving chase. In the pictures below you can see how tiny the Tantive is. An early lighting test of the cockpit and engines. After some light blocking and primer coats. And yes, the tiny, tiny Falcon is being lit as well. I drilled a groove in the bottom hull to accept a Pico LED. This was epoxied in place. Its hard to get good pictures of this as it's so dang tiny!!! A coat of black and then grey primer followed up by Tamiya AS-20. I sanded the engine panel after final paint to reveal the semi transparent print material. I also did the same for the cockpit. And of course, the camera couldn't focus well and over exposed the light. It's not that bright in person. I'll try and get some better pics today.
  11. From what I have heard is that the UK release has sold out. The US release is now scheduled for July issue.
  12. Argh, pics are blocked here at work. I'll check them out when I get home. Sounds cool though!
  13. Nice. I also have this kit. Messed with it a bit and then got shelved. I need to kit it back out. Will be following your build.
  14. Not a model, but scifi related, came last week. Airsoft version of Han Solo's DL-44. This is the one by Armorer Works. It's all metal and weighs just over 2 pounds. I'm in the middle of weathering it right now. I have a new 3D printed grill being made for it. Great fun on semi and full auto! Stock out of the box after assembly. After some weathering. Still a ways to go.
  15. Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be building another with more mods and upgrades in May.
  16. It's on Shapeways. Just search 1/2700 star destroyer. https://www.shapeways.com/product/BU2FD7RUZ/1-2700-rebel-blockade-runner-zvezda-star-destroyer?optionId=61521233
  17. Here are some pictures after I did the darker wash. Looks much better and details pop much more now. Plus, I just sold it! I'll be boxing it up and sending it to a new home.
  18. Thanks guys. Yes, it looks soo much better. Pics coming soon.
  19. Madhatter, are you telling me how to build and light models???? I've been doing this for 40 years and I will tell yo.............Yeah, your right, warm whites would have been better. LOL!!!!!! And yes, I will definitely be using warms on the 2nd build! Thanks for the comments guys! I HIGHLY recommend this kit to any SW fan. Even if just built right out of the box with a basic paint job, we have never had a kit like this before! With that, I decided I was not happy with the R1 paint scheme (mostly white) and decided my original grey wash just didn't enhance the details enough. I got my oils out last night and mixed up a nice dark grey, but not black oil wash. I applied that with a 2 inch brush over the entire model. I let that sit for about 30 minutes. I then took a clean rag dipped in Turpenoid, and wiped down the surface. Wow! What a difference. The nooks and crannies now pop with detail, it's still white but with a much warmer grey tone instead of the creamier white tone. So much happier now. I'll do another set of pics tonight as I also have the Tantive mounted as well. In the mean time, here is a teaser picture.
  20. Thanks guys. It was such a fun build, I'm going to do another!
  21. All done. Check the Ready for Inspection for pretty pictures.
  22. Finished off the 3D printed Tantive IV this morning. I added laser canons from stretched sprue and replaced the antenna that had broken off with a new one. The antenna was made with stretched sprue and the thinnest piece of paper (from a pack of chopsticks) I could find. The ship was mounted to a metal wire and added to the SD's base. I'll get more pics of the final set up tonight. The 3D print is just a wee bit smaller than my Anigrand, but not by much. It's hard to get good pics of something so tiny! And what a friend on FB said I must have looked liked.
  23. After 3 months she is finally done. It uses 31 LEDs, 170 feet of .5mm fiber optic lighting over 500 windows (I lost count at 500). This was an absolute blast to build. High praise and kudos to Zvezda for releasing a kit that no other plastic kit maker would touch at this size. I look forward to my next (super modified) build this summer.
  24. Looks fantastic. I'm glad you finally finished this off. I also lit this kit years ago. Those headlight lenses, what were they thinking????
