  1. I can sympathise Sean, I had about 120 porthole surrounds to stick on my 1/350 Zvezda Varyag, mind numbing, but I 'painted' them on with Johnsons Klear (Future) and that has held them in place well and gave me plenty of time for adjustment. From now on I shall use Klear for all non structural brasswork! I look forward to following your build, I quite fancy building one of those myself one day! Jockster.
  2. Beautiful work Seversky, love the tones and details, you know your craft!!! Jockster.
  3. This is for all the American modellers out there who still have the ability to log in, our hearts and minds go out to you, we know bad weather here in the U.K. but Hurricane Sandy is truly devastating. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. Jockster.
  4. Thanks for the offer Foxy, will no doubt take you up on that. I got myself a copy of Roger Chesneau KGV V class ships which seems to have a lot of good info so far! I don't want to get too far ahead till I get a good look at the WEM brasswork so it' just basic parts clean-up for now! I' almost finished my first ship build which is the Zvezda Varyag so that takes precedence! That should be finished next week! Jockster.
  5. Hi folks, Now that I'm here, I may as well show you what I'm made of so I am just starting my PoW build and now is a good time to share. No piccies just yet but give me a couple of days to figure out how. So far all I've been doing is sanding and scraping mould lines off the various parts and drilling out the portholes, so I won't bore you with that at the moment. I have been collecting bits for it though and have so far received a Hunter wood deck which is extremely thin and seems to fit the bits it's supposed to. The deck also came with a length of fine anchor chain and a small fret of etched brass cable reels and fairleads. So far so good! I got myself a set of RB 14" barrels, turned aluminium, again, very nicely done, but the thing that has totally blown me away is the Sea Master stuff! The 5.25" secondary barrels are very nice but it is the set of 20 Oerlikon cannons that take your breath away. Consisting of 6 pieces per gun, you have a turned brass pedestal, etched brass shield, shield mount, gun carriage and pedestal handwheel, and the most amazing gun barrel I have ever seen, it looks like a piece of wire but on close-up viewing you can see a nicely turned barrel-spring-breech assembly with, get this, a drilled out muzzle!!!!! In 1/350 scale?!!!!! Guess what I'm going to make tonight then....... I have also ordered the Ultimate KGV set from White Ensign which should be here at the end of the week and the 5 camo colours for the hull from their colourcoats range, although those are on back order at the minute. I think I'll wait till I get the WEM brass before posting any pics, that gives me a couple of days to put some worthwhile stuff together. Watch this space! Jockster.
  6. Awesome Mark, that's quite a feat of brasswork there! Total brainmelter! Jockster.
  7. Surfsup! Dude! I guess we all do the same sites! How's the lifeboat coming along? Jockster
  8. It won't put me off Rick, but I just thought that Airfix had finally kicked their 'fitt' demons into touch. I'm still waiting for them to respond to my request about an availability date for their extra aircraft set! Best of luck to you. Jockster.
  9. Nice one Foxy, is it the Mighty Mo you have or another Iowa? Jockster.
  10. I have just received a wooden deck for my 1/350 Tamiya Prince of Wales, the deck is from 'Hunter' and the fit looks spot on, also the kit contained fine chain and etched brass cable reels. The wood itself is paper thin. I also received an 'Artwox' blue deck for my USS Missouri, only a fraction thicker, I haven't checked the fit yet but it looks good, this kit also contained the same type of fine anchor chain but no etched brass. So far so good for both manufacturers. Both these kits came from 'dawngrocerystore' on ebay, good price and they arrived in the same package within a week, VERY well packed. Jockster.
  11. I like your build Carl, this is one kit that keeps catching my eye, but I have too many on the go at the moment, the etched brass sheet you showed, was that in the kit or did you buy that separately? Look forward to following your posts. Jockster.
  12. Haven't built this one yet, but it's on my bench awaiting White Ensigns brass set! Keep us posted about the response from Airfix, I was so looking forward to this kit and my step-daughters got me it for my birthday so I was hoping it was going to be of high quality. Regards, Jockster.
  13. Beautiful build, impressive to say the least! Jockster.
